[LOCKED] Greg Frey to Florida State??? Say it isn't so....

Submitted by Kharper3 on

Uh oh.  Greg Frey to become one of Willie Taggert's assistants at FSU?  I value Frey over Drevno.  Hope it's not true.

(Go easy on me.  First ever post)

EDIT:  I took a lot of heat for this.  Unless you all have a top-secret list of current posts, I see no active post on the board for this.  And, I apparently am not educated on the ills of Chat Sports.  Oops.  My bad!  Merry Christmas to most of you, and Bah Humbug to all the down-voters who sound like someone pooped in your party punch bowl today.  Go Blue!  Hopefully Frey stays.

OTHER MOD EDIT - I AM TRYING TO ENJOY MY FESTIVUS. NO CHATSPORTS.

nope, 10 down is Glasgow brothers. I'm telling you, it's not on this board. I went back 3 days to make sure. if they are deleting threads, might not be showing up the same for everyone.

Don't worry about it. Everyone has to find it out somehow, but Chatsports is known for just making stuff up and reporting it. They have even admitted to it. But it's obviously a good business model because this article has been flooding social media the last couple of days.

There's a guy you want to hang your career on.

A perfect example of someone who is in it for the money.

Sorry... I'm Festivus'd out.

Taggert == one of the many things wrong with CFB.

I will have to go check out this chat sports site you mention and subscribe.

Are you serious? His dream job opens up in his home state, the team here rooted for growing up, and he takes it. Harbaugh thinks he's a stand-up guy to have him in his wedding. Taggart won't get Frey without Harbaugh's blessing. He and Harbaugh are that close.

Yes, he is good. He has a completely different philosophy (zone blocking) than our previous philosophies. Hence the main reason why OL play struggled especially at the beginning of the year. There is no way Indiana of all schools would produce NFL talent on the o-line if Greg Frey was even an average coach.

This seemed plausible right up until I saw it came from chatsports.

Now, there WAS some talk on FSU message boards about Frey coming to work with Fisher back in the early fall before Jimbo to TAMU was a thing. My guess is that this is where chatsports went to make up this rumor. The rumor was that Frey would get some co-OC responsibilities or something.

And TBH I found it a possibility since Michigan was in the process of transitioning from zone blocking back to gap blocking. It seemed that the system Frey came in to run wasn't working. Perhaps there is more to it than that, and perhaps this is a multi-year transition to a more diverse OL repertoir, but the early returns on the zone stuff he specializes in wasn't good, and the tackles weren't exactly shining lights this season.

Which is to say, it wouldn't stun me if Frey left, because the possibility exists that things might not have been optimal here.

But whatever chatsports is writing is fiction.
