List of things overheard at Spring Game
Here is a list of things overheard coming from the mouths of Old Crotchety Guys (hereby dubbed OCG's) sitting near us at the spring game. Please add any you may have heard..
1. Minor is the fourth best running back on the team. (Wow!)
2. I liked Threet because he was a tall guy.
3. Which one is the Coach?
4. That's my guy number 88 (after the Savoy touchdown #82) I don't know why they don't use him. Maybe he can't catch. (Obviously)
5. When Woodley was introduced one guy asked - Who is that? Is he the one who played with the Raiders?
6. Desmond Howard, does he still play?
7. Do you remember Art Schlichter? (Uh no.. I am only 32)

...."sit down in front."
At 11:30am.
Only at 11:30? I kept hearing it during the alumni game, and then every 5 minutes thereafter from not only crotchety old guys, but from thier grandkids as well...
How old were the grandkids? As someone whose first Michigan Stadium experience was at spring games in the late 80's when I was like 8 years old, I think it might be forgivable if they were pretty young. I don't know if I would have had as much fun if I wasn't able to see any of the game over the adults standing in front of me.
They looked to be 12 or 14 years old...one did finally stand up but his father/grandfather/grumpy old guardian told him to sit down

Re: #2, are they also big Cone fans?
Don't know, but with those standards you would think Minor would rate higher.
Coner for Heisman! The campaign begins here....
Good stuff. It's always entertaining to be around people who are clueless about the team.
My personal favorites from last year were: "Why did they run the ball?" Usually followed by "why did they pass the ball?". These phrases were always uttered after disastrous plays.
Another thing I enjoyed about last year were the people who hated Threet, as if there was some other option at QB.
I think "Old Crotchety Guys" is essentially the same group as the "Down in Front!" crowd, which in "Brian's Magical Everything Gets an Acronym World,"* have heretofore been termed D-I-F's.
The most fun DIF I ever met was a turtlenecked, be-sweatshirted lady of middle age who asked, during a penalty, why they were all standing around the "umpire," who was walking Wisconsin back 15 yards.
I told her that they found one of the Wisconsin players had left Madison without making the bed in his dorm room, and that the hall manager called it in and they're assessing a penalty for it.
She nodded. Then she said that it was great that they do that -- and should do it at her son's high school games. "They probably do," the guy next to me told her. "You just have to get the number."
This is my hobby.

but regardless those OCGs should give up their tickets or go to the great old folks home in the sky. That level of ignorance is almost criminal.
2 50+ year old women talking about the play
"I have no concerns about the offense"
Seriously.. A true freshman with a walk on backing him up is my cup of tea.. Did they watch last year?
I think those two women and all of their friends must post on this board.
"Greg Mathews shouldn't start, he has the worst hands on the team. Odoms only fumbled like once. He can catch much better than Mathews."
vote for the reverse play? Reverses never work!"
"Max Martin isn't getting nearly enough carries."
I thought it was bad enough I'd heard that at the Toledo game.
why are they screwing with the helmets? oh wait, i heard that one here.
I was sitting in front of the press box and right before the team came out for the game, some old terd was standing up and screaming at the press box to "turn that shit off! we have a freakin band out there! Turn that shit off! Let the band play!" He was yelling this for like 5 min.
I can now understand why all the old milk shakes hate RichRod. They are soo against any kind of change.
This is so ridiculous. My 80 year old grandma knows who Tate Forcier is, but she doesn't go to games. The "down in front" old people (men and women) should give up their tickets to pepole who actually know whats going on. These are the people who say "The spread offense is a sign of the devil."
Guys, when someone tells you "down in front", completely ignore them. Tell them, "if you want to sit and be quiet during a football game, go home and watch it on the couch." Maybe all of Rich Rod's changes will make the old people not want to come to the games?
I love old people, but they really get on my nerves at Michigan Stadium.
Do you guys like fishsticks? You do?...
You know the rest

sure I love to put fishticks in my mouth..why?
No reason
... the sound system in there is crap, especially for music. Maybe they've updated the speakers recently, but last time I heard piped-in music at the Big House it sounded worse than the sound system at Rick's. Which is god-awful
Ya it did suck. But just like everything else in the Big House, it is getting an update eventually. It will probably be a lot louder.
But I have a feeling that guy didn't like piped in music in general.
"Who the hell is Tate Forcier? I thought the QB's name was Rich Leach!"
I kinda wish Poole1dan would have attended. That dude would have been a goldmine for this thread.
Below is a quote from someone else telling Poole1Dan that Michigan had pretty much no experience (which was right, they didn't) and him, trying to argue back that we had TONS of experience last year!
POOL1DAN:
"We had no receivers, no QB, and no TB (besides Mcguffie, who was forced to start)"
That is a LIE. We had two fine QB's in Steven threet in Justin Feagin, a boatload of excleent tailbacks in Carlos brown, Brandon Minor, and McGuffie (Grady is also a proven success as a substitute, and he's experienced). At receiver, we ahd two experienced, talented player sin greg mathews and Junior Hemnigway. And we had a fantastic TE in Carson Butler. THE TALENT WAS THERE!!!
DIF or OCG but in your neighborhood they are better known as Get Off My Lawn!!!!!, Turn That Darn Music Down. When they are on the highway or some city streets they are left turn blinker on for the last 20 miles guy. God I love old people as a matter of fact I love them so much I plan on joining their club one day.
In fairness, I must say that in my experience, most of the "down in front" people I've encountered actually do know their stuff (well, aside from the part about making noise to help the team). It's more the "loud complainer" demographic (usually somewhat younger than the "down in front" cohort - like in their 30s or 40s) that is the most clueless. There was just a few seats over from me last season. Every game he'd go on about how RR was "our Charlie Weis." He kept threatening to not buy tickets for 2009. I sincerely hope he kept that promise.
Ya, they all try to act like coaches and coach the game. Enjoy the game, yano?
"Is jimmy calpli?,sam mcguffie but with a different name and number?"
PA Announcer: Now punting--Zoltan Mesko
Random Guy Decked Out in Michigan Gear (RGDOMG): Zoltan Mesko? Is this his first year?
**Z booms one 60 yards**
RGDOMG: Gosh, he's real good! We could have used this guy last year.
Wooo boy.
I refuse to believe this is true.
I didnt hear anything interesting. Though i heard people yelling for the people in the front to sit down. What annoyed me was the people who would be standing, then sit down, then stand up again, then sit down..this went on for the whole game. So of course everyone else was up or down. I didnt care either way but pick one for gods sake.
But it was a great time for my first Spring game..only 2nd time out there ever.
