J. Reynolds only had one catch and just two targets on Sunday (with a big easy drop as his other target). Not exactly playing the same spot as DPJ, but Reynolds productivity (and targets) has fallen off from earlier in the season, J Williams had been getting some of those looks in recent weeks. Now, I imagine DPJ takes from both Reynolds and Williams.

I think it's more about not wanting to give up a 3rd or higher pick for anyone that isn't a sure-thing. The Commander's didn't pick up Young's option in the offseason for a reason. He's been in and out of the lineup with injuries and needed to show something this season. He's got five sacks so far, which is pretty good, but his total body of work is questionable.
I also think the Lions value draft picks more than most teams. It makes sense since they're clearly good at using them and young talent is also cheap on the salary cap.

He doesn't sign then Lions would get a 3rd comp. This is a free trade for the 49ers. They'll get that pick back cause he wont sign cause the niners wont have enough to offer him.

It seems the value of draft picks is underrated. To open a competitive window and keep it open a team needs to have a steady flow of young talent. There are only so many of your own guys you can sign to big $ second contracts. And we are looking at Sewell, Hutch, St. Brown, Jackson, McNeill, Goff for certain. Decker? You have to have lots of good players on rookie contracts. That means you need draft picks.

I'm starting to wonder if Decker makes it to another contract. He's solid... but I think they can upgrade in the draft in a couple years.

Disagree, they have Houston and Paschal coming back eventually. Gotta see what you have in those guys. Plus Young has severely underperformed and will need money soon. Also Holmes has been turning mid round picks into cheap and productive players.
DPJ is a sneaky great pickup.

The Lions are contenders, but they are not in "SB or bust" mode. They should have several years of contending in front of them, and they've proven that they know how to draft.

They're 1st in their division and widely seen as legitimate playoff threats, not just a byproduct of a mediocre division. They're 14-4 in their last 18 games for crying out loud.

They must be convinced James Houston and CJGJ are both coming back for the playoffs, because otherwise I agree with you. Pass rush was the biggest need, then secondary depth, then, WR depth.

Shot fired at JaMo unfortunately. It was a great opportunity for him to take the reigns - shows their lack of faith in what they have seen in practice.
With LaPorta, Amon, Reynolds all we needed was a 4th target in the offense that gets 3-5 targets a game and they don't seem to have faith in JaMo being that.
Meanwhile Olave and Wilson the 2 picks ahead of him look like legit 10 year in the league WR1 WR2s.

Talking heads saying Detroit doesn't need a WR since they have JaMo, which is a joke.
Dude looks flat out lost trying to get his body in control to catch a pass in the NFL. Even his long TD looked awkward and out of sync, not to mention ALLLLLLLLL the drops.

Watch the actual route.
The ball was thrown to where it was supposed to be, but JaMo drifted off the sharpness of the route AND was turned the wrong way based on play design.

not ready to call him a bust, but instead of looking at who went ahead of him, I think its more disappointing to see who went after him. You could have had Pickens and a DB like Cine or McCreary.

Love this at the price. Think we need another body or two on defense but this team is built to compete for several years and the draft exists.

It's a year to go for it, forget the draft right now - Lions fan have been waiting on the draft for 6 decades. Windows can open and close quickly. Their salary cap is going to be totally different in 2 years than now with all their talent ex Goff on cheap contracts. Can't pay everyone.
Eagles only real power in NFC and their schedule is about to get brutal opening up for the path to go through Detroit for playoff home games. Forget about 3 years from now, things change quick. Could have 3 new elite QBs in the NFC in 2 years like the AFC is loaded now and how difficult it is to get through in that conference as you have Lawrence, Burrow, Mahomes, Allen, Tua, Jackson, etc etc
Win now - we have only been waiting 3 generations. Ugh.

8 games into his second year coming off an ACL? A hair premature if you ask me. That catch he made against Tampa Bay was proof of why they drafted him. Give the kid time.
