Kirk Ferentz: "I anticipate no changes in our staff.... I thought they did a great job last year....""
For those that don't know, Iowa's offense is run by Kirk Ferentz's son.

More like "they're due for a hot streak"
February 2nd, 2023 at 8:43 AM ^
CADE!!!!!
February 2nd, 2023 at 10:00 AM ^
Hot streak? I'm sure they'd settle for "almost lukewarm"
February 2nd, 2023 at 11:37 AM ^
Perhaps it's just the longest play-action setup of all-time, and they're about to start taking their deep shots now.
February 1st, 2023 at 10:10 PM ^
It's nice to have a good laugh after a bad day at work.

Hell why disagree?
February 1st, 2023 at 8:38 PM ^
Kirk gonna Kirk
February 1st, 2023 at 8:41 PM ^
and Iowa gonna Iowa. But they WILL have a functional QB and a very talented TE next season.
February 2nd, 2023 at 6:20 AM ^
But will the TE be functional?
February 2nd, 2023 at 9:24 AM ^
To be fair, they generally have talented TEs every year……but everything else is crap
February 1st, 2023 at 8:47 PM ^
Honestly why would anyone expect Kirk Ferentz to change after 30 plus years of doing the same damn thing over and over? If anything it would be shocking if he made a change at all.
February 1st, 2023 at 8:38 PM ^
Sometimes youve just got to Iowa.
February 2nd, 2023 at 1:22 PM ^
Sure, but you're never supposed to go FULL Iowa.
February 1st, 2023 at 8:41 PM ^
He knows they won’t fire him, so what incentive does he have to change?
I swear, though, that it seems like there’s times where he is just passively trolling everyone who wants him fired because of his antiquated offenses. When he makes comments like these, I feel like it HAS to be trolling.
He’s just daring Iowa to fire him, and he knows they won’t.
February 1st, 2023 at 9:32 PM ^
He won the West and played in the Big 10 Championship Game in 2021. He’s 186-115 at Iowa, and 10-9 in bowl games. Just going back to 2015, Iowa has ended up in the top 25 nationally five times. Iowa isn’t exactly a recruiting hotbed. Why should they fire him?
February 1st, 2023 at 10:40 PM ^
He’s a high floor low but fairly low ceiling coach. Iowa could attempt to get someone with a higher ceiling but odds are they would just end up worse overall.
February 2nd, 2023 at 6:36 AM ^
Yes. Witness what Nebraska experienced after they let an adequate Bo Pelini go.
February 2nd, 2023 at 10:09 AM ^
Adequate? Dude was more than adequate, imo. He won 9 or 10 games for all 7 full seasons he was the head coach. I get that they felt like they weren't getting over the hump in the Big Ten, but they finished 3rd, 1st, 2nd, and 2nd in their division in four years in the B1G and screwed up a pretty good situation.
February 2nd, 2023 at 12:45 PM ^
This all comes down to have your expectations being grounded in reality. Iowa knows exactly who they are and they have found contentment. Nebraska still thinks they are who they were 20-40 years ago and can't let go.
Iowa drives a mini-van loaded with kids, plays golf every so often, loves to BBQ and is still in love with its wife. Could life be better? Maybe, but they're happy so why bother.
Nebraska drives a Corvette, is on it's fourth wife, creepily hits on the cart girls at the course, and thinks the women he meets on his Vegas trips are actually into him.
February 2nd, 2023 at 7:04 AM ^
They've been an amazingly stable program, with just two head coaches in over 40 years. One downside of that is having the coach's failson as OC, but cleaning house would be a massive gamble.
February 2nd, 2023 at 6:50 AM ^
Let’s say you have the nicest house in the neighborhood. Sure it’s not the fanciest areas to live but your house is bigger and more well kept than all the others.
You spend a lot of time landscaping, gardening, just general upkeep to make your house continue to be regarded as the nicest in the area.
but then you get a dog named Brian and decide not to train him and he just shits all over the front lawn, the sidewalk, eats the mulch, pisses on the front door, etc. now your house doesn’t always look as well kept as it used it. Neighbors pass by and remark that such a nice house has such potential if they would just do something about the dog shitting all over the place.
sometimes your dog Brian stops shitting all the front yard and goes to the backyard instead so your house begins to resemble the nicest again but that usually only lasts a short period of time before he’s shitting all over the front yard again
You love that damn dog so much you refuse to train him or send him to a school to teach him much you the confusion of your neighbors who know your house could stand apart once again if you would just have Brian stop shitting alll over it. But you are set in your ways and refuse to do anything that might help Brian stop shitting on your nice house and we’ll manicured and landscaped lawn.
That’s Iowa football

This is as about as Iowa of a decision that could be made
February 1st, 2023 at 11:39 PM ^
Very true.
Iowa is where mediocracy is not only accepted but considered a positive quality when achieved.
February 2nd, 2023 at 6:40 AM ^
The punting will continue until morale improves.

February 1st, 2023 at 8:43 PM ^
hell yeah
February 1st, 2023 at 8:45 PM ^
I find it hilarious myself. Cade and All go over there acting like Iowa is gonna revolutionize their offense around them and it’ll be the same shit Ferentz has been running for 20+ years now.
February 1st, 2023 at 9:08 PM ^
Karma for going scorched earth on the way out the door.
Cannot wait to see Daddy All's tweets when his son's draft stock plummets on 1 TD and 250 yards of receiving for the season.
February 1st, 2023 at 9:12 PM ^
Don’t be so blinded by the hate. Iowa has done pretty darn well sending TEs to the league lately, and their offense has been vanilla for a loooong time
February 1st, 2023 at 9:19 PM ^
On top of all that, Eric will be the best receiving option Iowa has - by a country mile...
February 1st, 2023 at 9:52 PM ^
you're saying he's All they have
February 1st, 2023 at 10:12 PM ^
Austin Powers comes to mind as I read this comment
February 1st, 2023 at 11:50 PM ^
I agree not a terrible move by All, but Cade just like gave up, he killed his prospect of going to the League choosing Iowa. IMO terrible judgment of building draft stock. He had a hundred better choices than that.
February 2nd, 2023 at 1:41 AM ^
Its risky, but if they rise to say a top 50 offense he might increase his stock. You can only go up at Iowa.
February 2nd, 2023 at 1:02 PM ^
Did he? He went to a place in a high profile league where he was promised to be the starter. I don't think it is in any way a given that he had better options.
February 2nd, 2023 at 8:46 AM ^
But did he really?
February 2nd, 2023 at 9:34 AM ^
I believe it was Klatt who suggested Oregon St. Which I thought was a good idea - back before him and his buddy All nuked the bridge on their way outta town. My immediate reaction when he chose Iowa - total lack of imagination and guts.
February 1st, 2023 at 11:29 PM ^
But there's good vanilla and there's bad vanilla. If you haven't noticed, the vanilla served up by Brian Ferentz is the worst vanilla you've ever tried. With CM & EA it might just be merely bad vanilla.

Tapioca?

You're wrong - tapioca is good stuff!
(I also like circus peanuts, peeps, and ambrosia, so take my tastes with some bit of skepticism...)
February 2nd, 2023 at 11:45 AM ^
+1 for tapioca
February 2nd, 2023 at 12:59 PM ^
Exactly- going to Iowa as a tight end makes all of the sense in the world.
February 1st, 2023 at 9:27 PM ^
I think All, depending on how he comes back from injury, will be the one to benefit from this the most. Iowa overuses their tight ends in the scheme. He prob won’t have a bunch of td’s but he will have a lot of yards.
February 1st, 2023 at 11:28 PM ^
TE is the one position at Iowa that they'll do well at no matter what. They have a couple of 1st round picks at TE, LaPorta will probably be drafted in a middle round. Those guys are weirdly good at TEs and DBs.
Now for Cade, he'll be very game manager like, but I think just having him compared to their old QB, they will solidly be a top 80 meh offense.
February 2nd, 2023 at 11:58 AM ^
TE is the one position at Iowa that they'll do well at no matter what.
Same with Michigan. Harbaugh has a hard on for TEs. He'll put three of them on the field at the same time. TE screen is a go to play call.
But for folks to imply that All will do fine as a TE at Iowa because it's Iowa is ridiculous. It's still a shit offense let by the coach's incompetent son.
February 2nd, 2023 at 5:16 AM ^
To be fair, he only has two career TDs at Michigan while appearing in 22 games, and 565 yards in that time as well. 250 and a TD would be roughly 1/3 of his career production
