Kalis on the QB position: "Everybody probably knows who it is"

Submitted by UMProud on

"The biggest question for weeks has been who will start at quarterback, junior Shane Morris, with limited game experience, or graduate transfer Jake Rudock, a two-year starter at Iowa.

“Everybody probably knows who it is,” offensive lineman Kyle Kalis said, smiling on Thursday."

He was a turnover and incompletion machine, but was one of my favorite players. The players had to almost always run back to or jump for the ball, which resulted in no yards after the catch. That was the worst period of Michigan football history. I would love love love him back as a running back though, but definitely not in the top 25 for QB.

Love the enthusiasm, but I sure hope not. I like the idea of a polished 5th-year Gentry who has eligibility left as opposed to a beastly but rough frosh QB. But what do I know? The coaching staff will do what they do. I just hope they can preserve the redshirt in this case.

Logic says the edge likely goes to Rudock, who was second in the Big Ten last season in completion percentage (61.7 percent) and had 16 touchdowns to five interceptions. Morris, who emerged from spring practice, before Rudock had transferred, as the frontrunner, has made two career starts. The strong-armed lefty has said repeatedly the starting job has been his to lose.

I will definitely agree with Angelique that logic and inference from the very limited information out there would tend to say Rudock, but part of me remembers how depth charts have been at Michigan - particularly in the last few years - and thinks for a moment that it might be Garrett Moores, but I trust Jim Harbaugh to approach such things in a more considered manner.

In all seriousness, I would be surprised - but not in a bad way honestly because I would then be a bit impressed - if it was not Jake Rudock. Whoever rises to the top in the sort of environment Habaugh seems to create gets your respect.

I can't see him coming here if he wasn't going to play, and this opens up the competition next year for one of Harbaugh's guys to take the reigns after next year. Morris w probably be the back up this year and get some PT and will probably be the back up again next year if he stays IMO. Gentry, Peters, and Vic is a nice problem to have in the coming years.
