Just for fun, here's Matt Charoneau's (Det News MSU beat writer) season predictions

Submitted by TCW on November 18th, 2019 at 9:16 AM

He predicted a 10-2 season, 7-2 in the BIG with the losses coming from Northwestern (!) and OSU.  He had a lot of faith that MSU's offense would improve due to the rearranging of the deck chairs.

The line for the Maryland game is telling.  "Nov. 30 vs. Maryland: By kickoff the Spartans should know if they’re playing for a chance at the division title or simply improving their bowl position."  They will, indeed, be looking to improve their bowl position.  From not bowl eligible to eligible is definitely an improvement.

Whatever happened to that bro who asked Harbaugh the "most over hyped coach in the history of sports" or whatever question at Big Ten media days in 2018? Did he go into hiding?

Different guy. The "dumbass" question guy was Hondo Carpenter, who I had never heard of before but is apparently a longtime, respected MSU reporter/writer. I'm sure that guy carried the water for MSU (and Dantonio) for years and years so for Dantonio to snap like that obviously means he's just about lost everyone outside of the truest true believers.

The loser Big Ten Media guy you're thinking of is some douche canoe named Crowley Sullivan. He talked a ton of shit on Twitter before last year's game and then continued running his mouth afterward about how classless Michigan was, etc. I see he no longer writes for the highly esteemed "Spartans Wire" nor has he posted on Twitter since February. A glance at his timeline during the football offseason reveals some truly hilarious "articles" about MSU and Dantonio.

Yeah, I honestly have no idea. I'd never heard of the guy until the "dumbass question" thing and then I started seeing people refer to him as just "Hondo" which to me meant he must have been around for a long time and gained some respect. I'm happy to be wrong about the latter, though!

He got annoyed on his LSJ podcast that people tweeted at him with his "Michigan will never beat Lewerke" column. Then he pretended he didn't care because I think he immediately realized that it was dumb to be all sad about getting called out on Twitter for a bad take that did not age well.

Wow, they both predicted 10-2 / 7-2 with losses to osu. Otherwise, the first guy picked a loss to NW (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *breath* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH) and the second guy has a loss to psu, with a blowout win over Illinois.

That... did not go so well.

On the other hand, they may both be correct about Rutgers just due to how bad Rutgers is. But honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Maryland at least put up a fight, since they appear to be able to play well against bad teams.

I actually love stuff like this. There's a lot of gold in this.

Illinois game: "This would qualify as the only part of the schedule that could be described as easy."

Michigan game: "It likely means Michigan State’s offense has found something while Michigan’s is again grasping at straws ... Michigan State’s defense is exactly as good as everyone thinks it is."

Rutgers game: "The Spartans head into the final two weeks of the season playing the worst two teams in the division. They’ll likely be doing it while paying attention to the scoreboard to see if they get any help in the battle to reach the conference championship game."

Why exactly? They returned a solid defensive front seven and a garbage secondary, and despite being completely inept on offense last year, they had all the coaches play musical chairs for their new job and changed nothing else. If you think you need more than that to take a run at Indy, ooooh wait yes I agree that was a hideously stupid thing to predict.

Serious question:  what is the point of making a prediction such as:

It’s a one-score game the entire way with too many field goals for either side to feel confident. MSU uses a fake field goal to convert a fourth down in the fourth quarter and gets closer for Matt Coghlin’s go-ahead 31-yarder with 1:34 left. Michigan goes four and out, with David Dowell’s pass break-up sealing the win for the Spartans.

I get trying to make a prediction of the score and the general flow of the game, but the specific details projected here are just weird.

Don't know who this clown is but he can't be any worse than Sparty Baumgardner (who, fortunately, has been finally demoted into irrelevance). Anyway, MSU is trash as are all of their slappies.

Baumgardner is an msu grad who was relentless in his criticism toward brady hoke regarding the kicker expulsion while knowing full well hoke was prohibited from speaking about the matter under ncaa rules. he's a trash msu sparty and im loving knowing that he's in agony this morning after his school just suffered the worst beatdown of the dantonio era. fuck msu and fuck sparty baumgardner. both are utter trash and deserve what was just inflicted upon them.
