What a joy to watch.

I just watched the game highlights and he had at least 3 more amazing dimes in addition to that one, including two behind the back passes. He looked so smooth all game, easily the best player on the floor besides the insanity that is Steph Curry.

Here are the full game highlights if anyone wants to take a look. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCpV9vYjwHc

GSW is working on an extension. Poole is eligible for 5 years, 184 million contract extension after this season and he probably will get it. Because he was drafted by GSW, they hold the Bird's right so they can go over cap with the extension. Wiggins has one year left so they'll let him walk and have Poole fit in the max contract slot. Kuminga will replace him once he's ready which is scary because of his size/athleticism.

Huh.. so this is what competent GMs & roster management looks like. Why have we not seen this across 4 separate Detroit pro sports teams in over a decade?

Only slightly /s cause I get there's a lot of luck and things outside of teams' control - but still having a salary cap plan come together like this seems nice.

GSW got lucky because their stars got hurt which allowed them to get Wiseman, Moody and Kuminga with their lottery picks. They hit a HR in Poole who went #28 (and I know most of y'all were down on him and said he didn't deserve to get drafted at 1st round).

The Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons and even the Lions are well constructed for the future. I'm not too worried about them.

Being in the bay area I followed Poole's career pretty close and like I said this in another thread, he needed another year, whether it was in G-league where he spent a decent amount of time or at UM, he wasn't ready from day one. The Warriors probably got lucky, if the rumors are true, that Steph's dad (Del) telling Minnesota his son wasn't going to play for them, they had I think two top-10 ten picks that year.  However Draymond was a really good pick in the second round.

That is right. And once again...for all of the goodness that John Beilein brought to Michigan basketball...Jordan Poole was never going to progress to what we are seeing today under John's direction. The player that Jordan Poole was at Michigan has little to no connection with the player he is today-there is no line connecting these dots. Jordan really had no choice...he had to leave to save himself-in everyway.

A good book could be written on matters such as this.

GS didn't get lucky with Moody or Kuminga. Moody was a mid-round 1st pick after the Warriors lost twice in the play-in tournament, and it still remains to be seen how good he will be. They hit a home run with Jordan Poole at the #28 pick in the 1st round. You could make the case they got unlucky with Wiseman given he has not been a contributor and not compared favorably to other players selected in the top-5 so far.

GS pulled a coup by managing their cap in order to sign Durant. After Durant decided he was going to leave instead of resigning with the Warriors, they signed and traded him to the Nets for D'Angelo Russell. Durant even forced the Warriors to give the Nets a future protected 1st round pick just to agree to the deal (that ended up turning into a 2025 2nd round pick because of the protection). The Warriors then fleeced the Timberwolves sending Russell to them in exchange for Wiggins, a top-3 protected 1st round pick, and a 2nd round pick. That Timberwolves pick ended up giving them the opportunity to select Kuminga, and they used the Minnesota 2nd round pick to acquire Kelly Oubre.

Their front office has been one of the best in the league by killing it in all phases of management--drafting, trades, and free agency.

Steph Curry did get hurt on his rookie deal, but it is hard to say their front office has been more lucky than good. They built a long-term contender without top-5 picks or winning the draft lottery.

They have pretty much built their entire team through the draft and trades. Their hit rate in the draft over the last 12 years has been tremendous (Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Harrison Barnes, Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole and Jonathan Kuminga). Their only marquee free agency signing, Kevin Durant, decided not to resign, and they ended up positive on the loss through sign-and-trade.

The city has played almost no role in recruiting free agents, and I wouldn't put SF in the the top 10 of free agency destinations when considering factors outside of the team. Durant signed with GS because it gave him the best chance for a title, not because of the city.

I said GSW got lucky because the injuries from Steph, Klay and Draymond allowed them to pick in the lottery where they got Wiseman, Moody and Kuminga. I never said they got lucky that they got Moody. I said they got lucky that they got lottery picks where if injuries didn't happen to their stars and they would've been picking outside of the lottery.

The only reason why they got Durant is Curry's ankle injuries allowed them to sign Curry under the value that he was worth at the time. Smart drafting of Klay and Draymond where they didn't have a big contract played a role to gain enough cap space to sign Durant.  Plus NBA proposed smooth cap rollover and the NBAPA didn't want it so that increased cap space far more significantly than it had to.

It all started with Steph's ankle injury that made them a superteam with KD plus injuries from Steph, Klay and Draymond allowed them to get multiple lottery picks plus the development of Poole to get them where they're at which is pre-KD team where they have the stars and the depth to compete with any team.

I agree with you on the Wiseman pick, but the Kuminga pick was not tied to GS as it was acquired in a trade. I don't really consider the Moody pick any kind of luck. It was the end of lottery mid-1st rd pick that the Warriors got because they lost in the play-in tournament twice. I don't see the benefit from sliding up one or two draft slots after missing the #7/#8 seed in the playoffs.

I kind of disagree on your KD take. The Warriors got lucky to get Steph on a below market deal because of his ankle injuries, but they still had to have the foresight to plan for that one year cap spike that allowed them to sign Durant. Draymond had to take less money just to make it work.

And your take ignores that the Warriors had to let Harrison Barnes walk in free agency for nothing in return in order to sign Durant. The Warriors would have still been long term contenders with or without Durant as they would have retained Barnes if Durant had not signed. And you could call them unlucky in a way because Durant decided to ditch them after three years. But the Warriors still turned that into a net positive by convincing Durant to sign and trade for Russell who they then turned into Wiggins and Kuminga.

The point was the Durant signing was not free without costs. There are a lot of good players who have had a bad Finals before and not sure I understand your reasoning. They also won a title and won a bunch of games with Barnes who served as a valuable versatile 3-and-D contributor. Even if they were not happy with Barnes long-term, they would have been able to resign him as a trade asset for another player if the Durant deal had not happened.

Important to note that he'll be a restricted free agent in 2023, which basically means Golden State can match (and exceed) any offer Poole gets next off-season. So, he's probably not going anywhere.

There is a very unlikely possibility, however, that Poole rejects every offer in '23 and rejects a "qualifying offer" from the Warriors. In that scenario, he would become an unrestricted free agent in 2024 and be free to sign with any team he chooses, and the Warriors wouldn't simply be able to match and keep him (if he really, really wanted to leave.)

In either scenario, Golden State can offer him both way more money and a longer contract than any other team, so the chances he ends up in Detroit or anywhere that isn't Golden State is incredibly unlikely unless some weird, bad stuff goes down between now and then.

Steph Curry is on the books for 3 more years after this and makes 59.6 million in the last year of his deal. Klay is on the books for two more years as is Draymond. So they aren't leaving anything on the table and won't be retiring anytime soon. Wiggins only has one more year on his deal so I can see them letting him go so they can afford Poole or if they can't come to an extension agreement with Poole then trading him with Wiggins or an all star. We'll see. They have a lot of options but they'll be paying 100+ million in luxury tax per year for awhile now.

I think Golden State will work to resign Poole to an extension this offseason.

If he does make it to restricted free agency in 2023, I highly doubt he would take the Warriors qualifying offer in order to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024. He has played too well this season to need to take that risk, and there would most likely be a team out there willing to pay the max where the Warriors could work out a sign-and-trade for assets.

I don't see any way the Warriors let him go with how well he works in their system. I think they would more likely move some combination of Wiggins and their recent 1st round picks (Wiseman and Moody) to open cap space.

If you think the Warriors will let Poole walk you're crazy.  Also, the type of mentorship he gets from having Klay, Curry, and Draymond as teammates and the fact they are so supportive of his breakout season is another whole set of variables that I can't see them letting go of or that of a situation he would even want to leave

you just beat me to it.  great performance.  steph is dancing after buckets, JP leaving it up there at the top of the key even while Denver is inbounding.  so much confidence from GSW and playing loose.

Anytime Steph, Poole, and Klay are on the floor at the same time now is must see TV. One of the most beautiful displays of 3 guards who can handle the ball, pass, and shoot I’ve ever seen. 3 guys who are elite shot makers

Well, and at 22? We're talking about a player who it's not so strange to start thinking could occupy ground among the very best.

I know I've come some way in my own emotional health, because I've gone from spitting nails remembering some of the opprobrium and doubt heaped on Jordan when his name arose to just laughing maniacally now when I watch him play. Obviously, not all of those NBA-bound players' parents are doing the wrong thing by their kids. ;)

Yes, that's true. But it can be said of most any player. Consider:

"Poole joined Wilt Chamberlain as the only two players in franchise history with 25 points in each of their first two career playoff games. Poole's 82.8 effective field goal percentage through his first two playoff games is the second highest of any player in the shot-clock era.

"'The maturation of his game in these three years has been unbelievable,' Curry said of Poole. 'Just his confidence in himself to be able to take it up another notch at this stage, it's extremely impressive. . . .That can't be taught. That's something you either have or you don't. I'm glad that he has it.'"

Darn, I missed it but looked at the box score and highlights.

Amazing.  Basically matched Steph Curry.  Both were 5-10 from 3.  29 points for Poole,  34 points for Curry.

Just as amazing has been Poole's passing and playmaking.  The behind the back dime to Thompson was an incredible highlight.

Their new lineup of death is remarkable.  Steph, Poole, Klay, and Wiggins are all elite shooters. Draymond is an elite facilitator and defender.  It’s a blast but to watch

Looked like he tweaked his elbow right before he went out (could also be he aggravated a hand injury). If he is healthy along with Steph and Klay the Warriors could beat Phoenix, and anyone else.

When Poole has consistency with his outside shot it makes him dangerous, especially when he is playing with two HOF shooters. But what makes him a potential All Star is that he is so explosive off the dribble.

BTW anyone else see there was a woman courtside with a Poole #2 Michigan jersey? Love that the Bay Area is starting to embrace him.

Half this board said it was a massive mistake for him to leave early.  He was undisciplined.  Should have come back.  The same folks now saying "what a future star".
