J.J. McCarthy: Staying at Michigan for entire college career
It's a subscription Detroit News article but I think the one sentence says it all.
J.J. McCarthy: I'm a Wolverine and will be for the entirety of my college career.

Goddammit, I just love this kid.
February 7th, 2022 at 7:42 PM ^
....even more. FIFY.
February 7th, 2022 at 7:58 PM ^
I'm in California but this makes me want to buy a car from that dealership he represents.

I don’t want to ruin your perfect score.
February 7th, 2022 at 11:30 PM ^
Well Gustave, thanks a lot, I came here to say the exact same thing. What an awesome young man he is!!!
February 8th, 2022 at 12:11 PM ^
We have the same name, and I was born at Balboa Hospital in San Diego way back in the 70's.
February 13th, 2022 at 5:25 PM ^
Cool, you have a great name!
My clients have done projects there, I couldn't get on because of clearance so I had to look at blueprints to to determine take offs (that's the amount of material needed for a project, for those who don't know).
February 8th, 2022 at 8:37 AM ^
JJ elite talent on and off the field.
February 8th, 2022 at 7:20 PM ^
When he was recruited, I said he'd leave as the best QB in the history of the program.
A firmly believe it.
February 7th, 2022 at 7:14 PM ^
that's another 'i told you so'. this came up a couple times late in '21. JJ is a special kid and his commitment, loyalty and intellect are such that he has his sights set on decades from now, not just days or even years from now. he knows he'll be the starter either this fall or next.
and i'll say this: i think cade is highly likely to stay no matter what happens in the QB battle. not a guarantee, but again, the character these two have is exemplary and i would not be surprised that he sticks it out, too.
February 7th, 2022 at 7:38 PM ^
Just curious - why do you think that about Cade?
Based on this year, he seems like a big time team guy. At the same time, if he loses the job this year, he could transfer after the season with a degree and two years left to play. I imagine he will be highly sought after by Power 5 programs.
February 7th, 2022 at 8:11 PM ^
not saying 'no way, no how', but what i am saying is that it is far less likely than the many 'fans' here that are secretly ecstatic to say, 'he gone!'. you are right he would be highly sought after and he might leave. i just think his bond with his team and his/our school is such that he is less likely to leave.
February 7th, 2022 at 11:35 PM ^
I think Cade has a great attitude and his leadership was a real factor in the team's turnaround. In retrospect, his Rutgers speech really did seem to mean something, or at least represent behind-the-scenes leadership that meant something.
I hope that the loser of the QB battle stays through the 22 season; there's a good chance they'll get serious playing time due to injury or circumstance or whatever, that we'll need them to contribute.
But the loser might leave before the season; that happens. And they are likely to leave after the season if it appears that the QB competition is over.
And I believe that should not be a mark against either their character or their love for Michigan.
In the world in which they live, the world in which they play, the winner of the QB competition is likely to start for the next two years. There simply won't be a three-year QB battle. And, frankly, that wouldn't be good for the starter, either. If Cade loses, spends the year as a backup, and leaves... every MIchigan fan should cheer him on with gratitude. Because what he has done for this program cannot be overstated.
February 8th, 2022 at 11:26 AM ^
If they both go through fall camp it would not make sense for one to leave. Injuries happen and they are both getting playing time. The way JJ plays he will take some hits.
Rosters are set and your not walking into some new program to start week one without knowing the offense.
That gives you a cushion until we hopefully win the Dante Moore sweepstakes. Then Dante can come in as the heir apparent for two years.
It’s the presumption that bothers me. We have two great QBs. Cade led a Big Ten Championship team. That says something.
They both really love Michigan that’s for sure
February 7th, 2022 at 7:42 PM ^
XM - Not sure why you’re still claiming being “right” about Harbaugh. He had one foot out the door. If the Vikings had been as excited about him as he was about them he was gone. His words, not mine.
Still love ya, but you weren’t “right”.
February 7th, 2022 at 7:53 PM ^
For biped coaches, two feet are, typically, required to pass through a door. ?
Coach remains.
February 7th, 2022 at 8:00 PM ^
Yep. And I am so glad he stayed (see user name)! But the position that there was NO WAY he was leaving proved to be incorrect. I was just as surprised as others that he even looked. But he did and was fixing to leave. That’s a fact - assuming you believe the source (i.e. JH himself!)
February 7th, 2022 at 8:14 PM ^
you are (almost certainly unintentionally) vastly overstating my position about harbaugh. i always clarified/qualified it with 'its a non-zero chance that...' or 'i'll be surprised and disappointed if...' i was of a mind that harbaugh would not leave. i was genuinely surprised about the vikings trip, but i also was ultimately proven correct that he wouldn't leave. no more, no less.
February 8th, 2022 at 7:27 AM ^
Congratulations. Being right about Harbaugh (based on no evidence, just a guess on your part) and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Get over yourself dude.
February 8th, 2022 at 8:01 AM ^
there's way more nuance to it than that, but you have definitely woken up on the wrong side of the bed to consider any of that. i hope your day gets way better.
February 8th, 2022 at 8:56 AM ^
Wait, has anyone ever seen the Geek and SagNasty in the same room at the same time?
February 8th, 2022 at 11:14 AM ^
actually, sagnasty and i had some pleasant back and forth over hoops this weekend. i'm hoping that is the way it goes from now on.
February 8th, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
Definitely never been referred to as the geek.
February 7th, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
Staying and leaving are absolutes. Can do one or the other, ?
We can argue, perpetually, about what impossible or highly improbable conditions would have to line up for our beloved Weird Jim Harbaugh to move bride and kids away from Dad, etc.. And we *have* done that to a riduculous extent.
But if the bet were made: going or staying? The staying bet wins. Was our XM probably thinking his bet was in serious jeopardy? Only he knows that. Lol.
I too though thought JH would stay. I too was sure that I was about to be wrong (not a first for me). But, thankfully, he remains.
February 7th, 2022 at 7:57 PM ^
It is still not clear which side said 'no thanks.' But since the first report from a vikings reporter said it was Harbaugh, it seems more likely that he decided to stay at UofM and not the Vikings deciding they didn't want him.
February 7th, 2022 at 8:18 PM ^
From everything I've heard, and as a vikings fan I've heard a lot, the vikings weren't in a rush to make the decision and Harbaugh felt they weren't as excited about him as he was about them and thus, pulled himself out of the running.
I love XM, but him claiming victory here seems a bit iffy. If the vikes wanted Harbaugh, he was gone.
February 7th, 2022 at 8:25 PM ^
'victory'? maybe not like that. but being proven to have the right final result, yes. and again, it really stands more in contrast to the many who either wanted to get rid of harbaugh or were instantly proclaiming, 'he gone!!'
and could you please report to the album thread and list 'dark side of the moon' as one of your favs (if you haven't already), otherwise user name will not be checking out.
February 7th, 2022 at 11:06 PM ^
I was in early on the album thread, thanks for looking out
February 8th, 2022 at 7:13 AM ^
Predicting, like wagering, is results oriented. If you predicted that team A would win the game, you aren't going to be rewarded if they lost after turning the ball over while going in for what would have been a game winning score.
February 7th, 2022 at 7:58 PM ^
This implies that transferring indicates a lack of character, that's not true.
February 7th, 2022 at 8:17 PM ^
easy to misinterpret that in cyber-space. what i'm saying is that the character traits of loyalty and love for our school and his teammates are more important to him than the other benefits of transferring. i am not implying that anybody that transfers is some type of scoundrel and indeed, for many i am very happy for them and hope they get on the field and do well.
February 8th, 2022 at 8:41 AM ^
I like Cade. But if healthy , JJ is the talent. When Brady stayed healthy....did you even know who the backup was?
February 8th, 2022 at 8:43 AM ^
If JJ stays healthy , Cade should look for playing time elsewhere. He can find many schools that would want him.
Let's
Go
Blue!!
February 7th, 2022 at 7:16 PM ^
JJ is the hero we deserve. I wish that kid nothing but the best, hopefully the adults in charge don’t screw it up.
February 8th, 2022 at 6:48 AM ^
Have you read this board? The hero we need, for sure, but definitely not the hero we deserve.
February 7th, 2022 at 7:18 PM ^
We will have a stud at QB for the First time in about two decades. I am glad the wait is finally over!
February 7th, 2022 at 7:46 PM ^
Shush! The Angry Michigan Quarterback Hating Gods might hear.
February 7th, 2022 at 9:33 PM ^
"Stud Passing QB" ok but you cant tell me Denard wasnt a stud QB. Go ahead and post your MSU or OSU hot takes you are not changing my mind.
February 7th, 2022 at 9:39 PM ^
He was a stud athlete.
February 8th, 2022 at 8:04 AM ^
Denard did finish in the top 25 in passer rating one season (without taking into account his 1700 yards rushing at all). Not that bad.
February 8th, 2022 at 8:47 AM ^
JJ is the MAN!!
LET'S
GO
BLUE!!
February 7th, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
This is terrific. JJ is a hard working great athlete and baller.
