JJ Continues to Lead the Nation in Completion Percentage

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on October 10th, 2022 at 3:48 PM

JJ McCarthy continues to be No. 1 in the nation in completion percentage at 78.3, well ahead of No. 2 (and former Michigan recruit) Dorian Thompson-Robinson (74.8) and No. 3 Taulia Tagovailoa (74.1). JJ is also fifth in QB rating. Those are good categories in which to be good.

Blake Corum is third in rushing yardage and second in rushing TDs.

yeah it really feels like 1) the coaches have protected JJ in the run game now that Cade is hurt and 2) JJ is being way too conservative with the check downs to prove he can be safe but it's like, dude, there's a reason you're playing over Cade so stop trying to be like Cade and make plays.  Don't just manage the game (although that was a good way to go against Iowa).

I was happy he finally got an interception because it seems like he was trying to hard not to put anything at risk.  He responded well to it.  Let's throw the damn ball against PSU.

I hear ya, but did anyone else pucker up on one of JJ's runs when he started his slide and the IU DB launched himself and flew over the top of JJ's head? I think it was the 2nd quarter. I know the Hoosiers aren't UW dirty, but it sure made me think of the McCaffrey concussion.

I think it's once again important to realize that JJ isn't doing this in a spread offense like most other top QBs are. JJ is doing this in a legit pro style offense which is really impressive

That is an excellent point. Many of the dual threats flame out in NFL, except for a few, who are able to make the throws needed in NFL and also not recklessly run every chance you get. JJ is doing well and I am hoping he will continue to pick his spot to run, especially against PSU, MSU and OSU.

To be honest, it seems like the goal here should be to give him more of a load until that number starts to drop a bit. Give him more to do until you find out what his limit is.

I remember in the good ol' days when the score didn't matter.   It was all about which quarterback had the higher completion percentage....    Yeah, them were the days...
