I was worried that was the case. He and Darboh both quietly never returned after plays where they were slow to get up. Get well soon, can't wait to see him torch DBs, bowl over defenders, and return kickoffs for TD's this fall

been wondering what the status was with both players as your correct, they both left the bowl game with injuries. It appears Jehu's was farily serious if 6 weeks later he is still on crutches. Would guess he will be held out of spring ball.  Hope he's fine and in shape come September, same with Darboh.

So you're saying Melanie Maxwell is a liar?  And why would she lie about something like that?  Or, maybe Jehu told her that he was injured during the bowl game, why would he lie about it?

Late in the 3rd Q Chesson catches the 45 yd pass from Rudock, is tackled, gets up and runs off the field with no problems.  Chesson was on the field for the two runs by Smtih which immediately followed.  The next time we see Chesson he's on the sideline he's hopping around as if he's injured while Houma is scoring his TD.

Damn. I hope he's ready to go with several months to prepare for the season.

If it was an ACL he woulden't be able to walk on it at all yet would he (even with crutches)?

My only real fear for this coming year is injuries. We're just not deep enough to survive them at a lot of positions.

Well hopefully he heals up soon.  Still on crutches a month after?  Wonder if he's bearing any weight on it.  Hopefully some minor fracture or something that should be healed up nicely by fall camp.

Aren't minor knee surgeries pretty common this time of year? I'm not even close to being a doctor, but can't they do knee arthroscopy with like 1-2 weeks total rehab?

If it's a meniscus resection (removal of the torn mensicus flaps), yes, you can walk out of the hospital, sometimes with "walking crutches" to distribute weight and still motor-pattern a normal gait.

If it's a meniscus repair (sewing the torn meniscus flaps back together), then you will actually non-weight bear for 4-6 weeks while it heals (it heals extrememly slowly, but with these athletes, getting some of the best care in the nations, I'd strongly bet they are getting some repair-enhancing substances--not illegal at all, just not practical/useful to administer to every pateint, part of a clinical trial on high-po athletes--and I'd also bet the NCAA bylaws on that are hazy)

From knowing a lot about these things, it's very likely a meniscus tear (albeit we haven't been told anything), but it could be anything

If he had surgery soon after the game, then it was most likely a "meniscus repair", and thus why he's STILL on crutches. (e.g. 4-6 week healing time) Also, the younger you are, the more encouraged the surgeon is to repair it (for some of you guys that obviously had "removals" and not "repairs"), for 1) higher probability of soft-tissue healing at younger ages, and 2) the 4-6 weeks of inactivity is outweighed by the 50-70 years of life ahead of you, and 3) he may be an NFL player in the future, that means extreme forces/workload, so having the entire meniscus intact is a major boon over the course of his career.

However it still could only be a "meniscus removal", and if you're wondering why he's still on crutches, then likely he tried to put off surgery, go the conservative route and workout through the injury for the month, and in that time felt catching, locking, pain, and/or popping sensations and elected go with surgery to solve that. Thus surgery delayed. Thus still on crutches.

Could also be a residual bone bruise too, or accompanying bone bruise. Definitely still on crutches. Very painful.

Could be other things too of course, but barring an ACL Recon, Grade III MCL repair, or surgical infection, my guess is a meniscal injury. Super common, and most are easily managed, but there are rare exceptions.

I'd bet given his youth, workload, future, and athletic status, I'd bet that he had a meniscus repair and is non-bearing for 4-6 weeks. But more info would be needed.

Also these athletes are really "in-season" year round, they absolutely operate on the brink of performance and recovery, and cannot afford to fall behind in ANY exercise or drills. So having these "walking crutches" and "walking boots" and crazy lymphatic draining leg cuffs (I used to be in the physio therapy room with a lot of football players a few years back for a different sport) are physical therapists' approach to rehabilitating as quickly as possible.

And if walking about will add mileage to your day, but in no advantageous aerobic or anaerobic way, then they will try to negate it as much as possible (notice his crutches are armpit walking crutches, they're designed to be walked on with a normal gait).

Every little bit helps. Like Harbaugh says, 1% better every day.

I like our starting lineup (ex LBs) but yes we have depth issues at quite a few places specifically WR, S, OL, LB and QB.... in terms of proven production.  Our injuries last year were mostly at places we had other like players (RB, DL) so it worked out ok.  Where injuries hit and to whom (as they will every year) could be the difference between a 1 loss and 3 loss season.

Guys like Dymonte Thomas, Hill, Gedeon, Jehu, Cole need to be put in protective bubble wrap for 6 months!

No I think the DL has proven depth and whomever loses of Clark and Stribling for example provides CB depth (each has started).  Same for RBs to a lesser degree.

If you lose Chesson or Darboh you go to guys who have never proven much at all ala Harris or Ways or freshman.  If you lose O'Korn to injury you have a guy who threw a few passes last year vs a guy who threw a few passes 2 years ago.

There is a difference between losing Mone and losing Gedeon.

I love our depth at WR. Obviously we have two solid and established starters in Chesson and Darboh, but we have a lot behind them. Drake Harris is a phenomenal talent and got his feet wet last year, and Grant Perry looks like he could develop into Dileo 2.0 as a slot guy who won't blow you away but has just enough shiftiness to be valuable.  And then we have oodles of freshman talent, and WR is an area (like RB) where young players can shine in situational roles.

unfortunately youre right, thats football.  where injuries hit, when and how hard usually determine a teams ultimate fate - nothing can swing win / loss totals like injuries.

almost all championship squads require some luck to stay healthy in all the right places and at the right times so they can reach their goals, and all teams obviously deal wth injuries to some extent (among other personnel issues).  some guys will be impossible to replace but great coaches / programs can often adapt.

thats why depth (and talented, "next man up" type depth)  across the board is so vital.   that legit, consistent depth typically allows teams like bama, osu, usc, etc to keep moving, next man up - and all signs point to michigan finally returning to that level (though not quite yet) which is awesome

Jehu to me was a bigger surprise than Rudock's progression. Jehu went from a speed guy only to a legit #1 WR who will most definitely get drafted, probably mid round if not earlier depending on how well he does with a new QB... Which to me is insane because expectations were not high at all for him. Without him our offense wouldn't have been near as explosive. He's so much fun to watch. So friggin fast.

Agreed.

I feel he just never had a QB (or O-line support) that would/could allow him to get the ball.

Gardner unfortunately had tunnel vision only for Funchess and Butt in 2014 (2013 = Jeremy Gallon).

Once he gad a QB in Rudock, he really shined.
