Jay Harbaugh gives Clark 8 hand-written reasons to Go Blue
number 8 is certainly the best reason
http://michigan.247sports.com/Bolt/Michigan-Gives-Clark-8-Reasons-To-Co…
Paraphased:
1. we're really good at using TE's
2. can wear number 8 and 30,000+ more fans will see it every home game(not in the letter: Bellomy probably not coming back)
3. EDIT: list of many NFL cities nearby to scout you
4. we have a good QB
5. best public school in america
6. most wins ever
7. biggest Adidas contract = more swag
8. WE WILL WIN

FYI, it's from Jay, not Jim.

Well at least the Mazzones can't use Nike against us since UCLA is also an Adidas school.

Do you suppose that's why the poster helpfully referred to him as Jay Harbaugh in the title?

I don't think you are allowed to have two players on the same side of the ball with the same number, whether they are played at the same time or not.
January 29th, 2015 at 8:19 PM ^
No way that's true. In college, positions are too arbitrarily defined for that to be the case.

Two players who play the same position may not wear the same number at any time during the game. Beyond that, the only rule regarding numbers, involves offensive lineman and two players with the same number, may not be on the field at the same time.
January 29th, 2015 at 8:28 PM ^
Wasn't this rule made because Les Miles was dressing like three or four punters in duplicate numbered jerseys, dressed exactly the same way, and had them keep their helmets on so no one knew which was which?
January 29th, 2015 at 8:35 PM ^
idk but if that's not the case, it should be!
January 29th, 2015 at 9:09 PM ^
I Googled "Les Miles punter jersey numbers" and "LSU punter jersey numbers" and I got nothing.
But it wouldn't shock me if Les did this...if so, I doubt they were all punters.
Why not put a RS freshman QB or WR who's buried on the depth chart for a year in the same number as a punter and call him a punter?
I'd rather run a fake punt pass with Wilton Speight or a fake punt run with Bo Dever than just another punter who can throw or run.

Back-up qb and punter with the same number and ran a fake punt.

Players’ Numbering
ARTICLE 2
a. All players shall be numbered 1 through 99. Any number preceded by zero (“0’’) is illegal.
b. No two players of the same team shall participate in the same down wearing identical numbers.
c. Markings in the vicinity of the numbers are not permitted.
PENALTY [a-c] - Live-ball foul. Five yards from the previous spot.
d. When a player enters the game after changing his jersey number, he must report to the referee, who then informs the opposing head coach and announces the change. A player who enters the game after changing his number and does not report commits a foul for unsportsmanlike conduct.
e. Two players playing the same position may not wear the same number during the game.
PENALTY [d-e] - Live-ball foul, unsportsmanlike conduct charged to the team. 15 yards from the previous spot. Flagrant offenders shall be disqualified.
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN
At least five linemen must wear jerseys numbered 50 through 79

Anybody else surprised we didnt get a flag for this sometime during the season, say on punts perhaps, after a timeout...

Notre Dame's horseshoe 2012 team got saved in their game against Pitt when this penalty wasn't called in OT on Pitt's missed field goal.
January 29th, 2015 at 8:25 PM ^
Nope. You can, they just can't be on the field at the same time.
January 29th, 2015 at 8:37 PM ^
two players will not have the same number if they both are offensive or defensive players. There would always be the opportunity for them to be on the field at the same time given any number of situations.
Players wearing the same number are always playing on different sides of the ball, then it still has to be a concern when it comes to special teams play. They can not be on the field at the same time ever.

IF they play the same position...however, that is not the case in this instance.
But you cannot have two WR #1's...however, you CAN have a QB #1 and a WR #1 if they're not on the field at the same time.
If you wanted to trick someone on offense, you put your backup QB in the same number as your star RB/WR (or vice versa)...then you pull the star and put the backup in trying to trick the defense into thinking your star RB/WR is playing QB or your star QB is playing RB/WR.

The rule states: " Two players playing the same position may not wear the same number during the game."
This suggests to me that it's not just at the same time, but at any point during the game. This means that if you have 2 QB's who are number 8, one can't start the first half wearing #8 and the other, also wearing #8, start the second half. Because they are the same position, they must wear different numbers if they both want to appear in the game, even if it is not at the same time.

This IS a little bit "your a baller"-ish.
I get it, but it seems a bit childish. As a 25 year-old coach, I would think he would want to look hip but not amatuerish.

Jay is impressing me so far. He might just end up a better option than Marrow. He adds something different.

Most likely Oregon cancelled on Iman. Due to their sanctions they have a decreased amount of OVs, and they cannot afford to waste them on someone who is not a serious candidate

That means it's officially a two-school race, which is better than a darkhorse that just appeared in the Championship.

Nike is worse. Unless you REALLY want to see a "Blue Chrome" helmet as one of the dozen different uniforms worn.
January 29th, 2015 at 8:41 PM ^
The schools are allowed to say no to that kind of stuff. Texas and Bama are Nike schools and they never wear alternates.
January 29th, 2015 at 9:43 PM ^
People have a fetish for Nike because we won a national title wearing The Swoosh. I personally couldn't give a shit who makes the gear.
