I think you are right.  Kenny Allen was really good, but had a much shorter time period as a starting kicker.  Garrett Rivas and Remy Hamilton were great too.  The thing that puts Moody over the top in my mind is the fact that Harbaugh has given him a few attempts at incredible distances that previous Michigan kickers never attempted.

Basically, some of these attempts are statistical outliers that don't really count, in my opinion, in an "apples to apples" comparison, especially when charting misses and %.  Even with those factored in . . . he is still essentially the best "statistically" with very little room for debate.

At the national level, he is tops, and I would be really interested to see who is better between 30-55 yards.  Take out the chip shots and take out the extreme distances and try and find a better kicker.

Someone made a comment that Harbaugh lets Moody attempt these long attempts in game so the NFL scouts can gauge his leg strength.  Put on film, as they say.

I think this is a smart take and believe Harbaugh puts the best interest of his players first.  How many other coaches (*cough* ryanday *cough*) would have punted in place of that 57 yard attempt.

I was going to post a thread earlier but had to run to a meeting and I don't know if its worth a new one now, but he's one of the three finalists for the Groza again (unsurprisingly).

The other 2 finalists (Christopher Dunn - NC State, Joshua Karty - Stanford) have better % of makes, but Moody has the most field goals total AND the most makes above 30 yards. Only Sebastian Janikowski has won it twice. My completely uneducated guess is one of the other guys will get it but maybe not! Only Moody has been a pivotal piece of a great team, after all.

The only thing sweeter than Jake winning the Groza again would be for Jake to win the Groza *and* Brad Robbing to be named Holder of the Year!

Seriously, congrats to you, Jake on winning the B1G Awards. Go Blue!
