Jake Fisher's Oregon Trip

Submitted by Yost Ghost on

According to a TomVH tweet looks like Jake is headed to Eugene for a visit. This has got me a bit worried as the facilities and weather there are a pretty nice. We really need Fisher in this class for the future OL growth and he would be a great addition at 6'7" and 273#'s. Anyone have any info on how the last visit went?

that Oregon is probably the biggest threat.

No one thinks we're out of it, but no one is incredibly optimistic either.

Sam Webb said that Fisher is going on the trip alone, without his parents, which might make him realize how far away Oregon really is. For what it's worth, Sam thinks we have a good chance.

He's had the Oregon visit planned for some time. His Florida visit is said to have went good, but nothing sounded "great". I think we still have a shot to reclaim him, but our chances aren't the greatest. Let's just hope Oregon is too damn far away from home for the big guy

I, of course, believe we have the greatest facilities in the country, but I'm biased.  Oregon's facilities are bound to leave quite an impression on any 17/18year old kid.  Especially one that's never seen anything like them before.

I lived in Seattle for 13 years and the one thing I'll always remember is my first visit to see my sister I took my heavy winter coat. It wasn't long before I realized it was overkill since the temp was low to mid 40's my whole visit. So comparatively speaking the weather is nice there this time of year. Yeah you might not see the sun all that much but here in Mid Michigan it's pretty much the same thing except 30 degrees cooler and lots of snow.

Yeah the winters are mild, but it drives me crazy.  On the weekends when I want to play in the mountains it is always raining.  I have lived in the Rockies and Michigan, and for some reason Northwest weather is my least favorite.

The other thing is people are much friendlier in the Midwest.  Overall though the Northwest is a nice place to be.

I am the oddball in my family for loving the mild winters of the NorthWest.  I have a lot of family that grew up in Michigan and quite a bit from Traverse City, and they all miss the snow in wintertime (some live out here, some just visit and shake their heads)

If he chooses Oregon, it's because he thinks they will better prepare him for the NFL and win National Championships.  And the facilities are where athletes spend the majority of their 4 years, so it definitely is the key they consider.

Now, I hope that Michigan's Facilities equal or better Oregon or anyone else, but I have no way of knowing that.  But he won't make the decision because of the weather.

I do know that.

Dude, I'm a born and raised Michigander who is a Michigan alum at USC for grad school. The weather on the West Coast kicks A2's ass. The last 2 weeks have been 75 plus. I've been chillin on the beach gone hiking, and seen so much amazing hot tail. SoCal def has its benefits. I mean I love Ann Arbor and loved my time there, but for a high school kid this place can be pretty tempting....

I agree. I'm an Ann Arbor in a larger, more happening city, with a milder climate, but I miss home. I don't know what people would think about Ann Arbor this time of year...to me it always felt like something out of Norse mythology. But cold Fimbulwinter or no, I chose UofM, and I feel a long way from where I belong. Funny old thing, feelings...

Oregon is definitely the biggest threat. Fisher might be a better OT for the spread right now, but he definitely has a big enough frame to add enough weight to become a solid pro style Tackle.

about an education and degree from UM, then we're in good shape. If a degree is simply a commodity to him, with one degree pretty much like another, then it will come down to things like the strength of the football program, and how much he likes Eugene, including its weather. All Brady Hoke can sell with regard to the first is the future; Oregon is now. Regarding Eugene vs. Ann Arbor as a living experience, there's not much that Hoke can do about that.  The Pacific Northwest is pretty special, while Ann Arbor is definitely an oasis in the Rust Belt.
