I wonder if anyone announced my arrival in 2008...? Probably. I bet I just missed it.
I'll never understand how you missed the parade.
miss the parade.
I remember that one - it was an epic thread - seem to recall it being north of 300 posts. Somehow it accidentally got deleted, so unfortunately no one can dig you up a copy. Too bad you missed it.
I do remember that M-Wolverine got Bolivia'd when he commented that you looked 15 years old and were kind of ugly.
Started a whole firestorm.
"now you're just another wormshit freshman."
We don't talk about 2 stars
Nearly every comment that piled on to the original post of missing one's Welcome Post in spite of being some random dude is basically the reason I come here every day.
That seems kind of early, no? Doesn't fall practice start in August?
The summer half-term starts on June 26. Many freshman athletes will be arriving on campus around the same time as Peppers.
And yeah, football players were just everywhere.
Well, mostly at Wendy's in the Union
New NCAA rules allow 8 hours week of mandatory time in offseason. I think everyone is getting there early because of that.
This kid will make a difference this season. Hopefully Hoke and co. figure out how to best utilize his talents in fall camp.
Best playmaker on the team when he steps on campus.
Not discounting this kid because I'm super excited about him too, but he hasn't proved a thing yet in college. We have a pretty good playmaker on that side of the ball called JMFR who has been making plays for years!
Understood...but this is DIFFERENT.... this is a once in a half decade talent, coming to us at our lowest point in 40 years... so, it is quite a big deal.... there is a good chance that its this player who brings us back.... sounds like a huge burden, but it is what it is.
That I totally agree with, but I doubt he's the best playmaker on the defense next year...Jake Ryan still is IMHO.
Is he good?
Guys in the secondary better be getting ready because this kids not going to take any prisoners! He wants time and does care who the hells in his way! He will push guys which will make the secondary better overall.
Special Teams, DBs and WRs.
I just have one request. Can we please not crush this kid with ridiculously high expectations immediately.
You clearly have not spent much time around here.
My only expectation for him is to come in and compete to the best of his ability, not to start, be an all big10 player, or an all american etc. I just expect him to come in hungry (which he will) and push for time (which he will)
Screw that. I'm expecting three pick six's and a KO return against Ohio State.
And the Heisman.
do the lots and golf course open that day for his pre-arrival tailgate?
I think we are a little late tho.....
Everyone thinks he's the next Woodson already.
No we don't.
We think Woodson was the first Peppers.
I understand and even share your sentiment, but Peppers has already set the bar high.
It's ehrmehgerg, clerhleh.
You're usually so optimistic.
I don't think most people are expecting him to save the team on his own. He's a good player who given time should be a good player. You mentioned bad attitude several times. I don't see that being an issue with him and is one thing that I think this coaching staff tries to weed out.
It's not delusional to think he could be a good player when every coach in the country wanted him. It's just as delusional to be blindly pessimistic.
Nothing is a sure thing in anything. It doesn't take a slanted view of Michigan football recruiting where you purposefully omit a number of highly successful recruits and lie about others others like Steve Shilling and Ryan Mallett to see that. Ryan Mallett was one of the best qbs in Arkansas history. Nobody can take you seriously if you think he was a bust.
If Peppers turns out to be a bust or even marginally disappointing I wouldn't know what to think...
... If I ever logged onto this site to see a post titled, "Peppers to transfer" or "Goodbye: Jabrill Peppers" I'd fucking lose it.
But that will never happen.
Ultimately, the kid will succeed. Why? At this point, he doesn't know how to fail; he's programmed himself not to. Finally, after all this trepidation and turmoil, we will not only have the football player Michigan deserves BUT ALSO the one we need right now.
Good night, and Go Blue.
Do you ever post anything positive about Michigan athletics?
Walmarting? Are you a troll? Only Spartan fans use that term and I've never seen you post anything good about Michigan basketball. Also, don't you love Rich Rodriguez? Wouldn't Ryan Mallett, Justin Turner, Sam McGuffie, Tate Forcier etc. be failures of the RR coaching regime?
You are cherry picking. Does that make you feel better?
The only people he mentioned that actually busted were Tate Forcier, Sam McGuffie, and Kevin Grady. Donovan Warren was decent. Steve Shilling, Ryan Mallett, and Brandon Graham turned out to be pretty good players. Will Campbell was one of our best defensive plyers in 2012. As for Ondre Pipkins, Shane Morris, Derrick Green, Kyle Kalis they've played at most 1-1.5 seasons.
It's EASY to prove ones point when you focus on the negative. Denard was a 4 Star talent and he made the cover of a video game. But lets just focus on WHO didn't work out....
Define "hype?" DG had no "hype?" Funchess had no "hype? " You cherry picked to prove your negative argument. If that makes you feel better then by all means keep posting but I would venture to say our "busts" compare with other top programs.
I'll say DG probably has to fall in that category. Other than that, he's right. He's not saying Peppers won't work out. Just that it's never a sure thing. I don't know why everyone is getting so worked up over that.
You read wrong. He's not saying that Peppers has a chance of not working out. Everyone knows there's busts everywhere. He is saying that Peppers won't work out based on flimsy evidence by calling Ryan Mallett and others busts. A worded post like "I don't know why you guys are so high on Peppers when he hasn't even played a down at Michigan yet. He might not work out the way you think." would be much more fair and balanced then "All Michigan 4/5 stars are busts" when guys he listed like Steve Shilling, Brandon Graham were actually great players at Michigan and Ryan Mallett was one of the best qbs in arkansas history. Plus he includes only 4 stars that help his argument that all the players we recruit are busts. Taylor Lewan and Mike Martin don't count apparently. Go figure.
WTF you talkin about willis.. Mcguffie was a 3 star who had buzz because of his youtube video. He had a bit of hype but it sure as hell wasn't collective. Marvin Robinson had as much hype as he did.
So basically you just chose a few 4 stars that busted to help your argument while ommiting any 4 stars that turned out great.
I remember that both of them were pretty big recruits given the qb issues of the previous season. I'm going to stop arguing with you now because it's not worth my time, you're in Bolivia, and most of the board thinks you're full of shit.
I don't even disagree with 80 percent of what you said, I thought the walmart piece was arrogant and in poor taste, but who the hell am I to judge those...so I'll shut up on that.
You're actually right on most of what you're saying. So hopefully this validates and you can take the moral victory that someone acknowledged it and move on.
For the record, Denard didn't have half the hype of Tate, you're corrrect. You're also correct that Charles Woodson doesn't make this list of 10 years. Carlos Brown didn't have the hype of these other guys, so it was smart not to list him. Funchess didn't either, he didn't even play in one of the big HS AA games.
I don't think guys like Morris, Pipkins or Dymonte Thomas should even be mentioned in this though.
My one real thought on this is that I think this is a situation where you can come up with "facts" to support your case, but they're not really tell any kind of story. It's a cute argument, but each situation is different. It also doesn't give you any type of real indicator on predicting the future.
For as much as you can argue that these are "facts," I can argue that it's pure coincidence.
Using stuff like this is like how the media always uses past records to compare teams and predict outcomes. "Such and such hasn't won here as a lower seed since 1950"...what the fuck does that have to do with today and these two teams?
Those are trivia and fun facts, not indicators. What you did is toss our fun facts (that aren't so fun), which is fine...but then you tried to use it as an indicator for Peppers, which you nor anyone else can do.
asked for a list of guys that came in the the hype of the #2 player in the country who has been called the best cb recruit in the past 10 years? I am sure we have a huge list of players that can fall into that category. lol We have a word or people like you...
What about Charles Woodson (the guy peppers had been compared to).
how did he turn out
Que? Gardner was 5 star on scout. #1 Duel threat.
Although that is a list of pretty impressive high school recruits, correct me if I'm wrong, but none of them were ranked as high as Peppers. And, none of had the physical tools of Peppers. Peppers has an NFL body in high school and has no real weakness. I would have to go back and read all their recruiting profiles, but looking at the list I'm guessing they all had some weaknesses. The only weakness I've ever heard of Peppers is occasionally he can be too aggressive. Maybe Graham or Woodley didn't have many weaknesses, but I doubt it...even they were probably at the very least had less than ideal height.
Jeez according to some people I deal with Shane Morris was a stud in his start. Glad I'm not the only who isn't deeming him starter based off one game
Look at your list again... these guys were playing as true freshmen and sophomores... this isn't dantoni's msu playing as 5th year seniors.... lets see about Green and Kalis and Morris, as upperclassmen.... and McGuffie and Forcier wouldve been sweet as upperclassmen.
I'll give you Turner and Campbell, the latter who shouldve been an offensive guard here only.
So you're saying he's the next Brandon Graham?! STUD!!!
Mallet and Graham (Green approaching) are the only two recruits you mentioned who are in the same tier as JP (as a prospect). Mallet and Graham were CFB studs. Woodley and Prescott Burgess would also be in that tier. Henne is approaching that tier. I'm hopeful he is on the Woodley/Graham level, but even if he is more like Burgess, that helps the team (though the pressure will be immense). It will be very surprising if he isn't a productive starter and I'll be personally surpised if he isn't a stud.
I'm not ready to compare him to CW, though...that's a bit much for any kid at this point.
McGuffie rushed for 4.2 ypc and gets rated "bust" by you? Tough grader.
McGuffie was disappointing in that he suffered the three concussions allowed for a career at michigan, all in his first season, but "bust?"
You do have to like what Woodson said about Peppers a few days ago all the same:
“You can see the confidence just spilling out of this guy’s pores,” Woodson told WTKA host Sam Webb. “It was exciting for me to just get a chance to share a little bit with him and meet with him. I’m looking for big things out of him, I really am."
To have a gut feeling that this kid will end up seeing more snaps on offense than we anticipate. I know I'm probably wrong, but I can't help getting giddy about the possibility.
I am not sure if this gif is good or bad given the subject of this thread but I upvovted it because it's awesome.
The fanbase prophesied his dominance and his coming would hail the destruction of Ohio State, the SEC and all of College football. Ending the war and bringing freedom to our people. That is why there are those who have spent their entire lives searching the country looking for him.
Who is this Jabrill Peppers that you speak of?
I am excite!
Also after looking this up, you missed Taylor Lewan and Mike Martin.
Holy cow man, you really are struggling with this. Mike Martin was the 193rd overall prospect. Not a 5 star or uber hyped. Taylor Lewan was the 194th overall prospect. Also, not a 5 star or uber hyped. Give it up. If I read correctly, all he was trying to say was lets hold on before we start calling him OMGZ best player EVAR. Our coaching staff has a less than stellar record as far as player development goes. If you can think of a 5 STAR or CRAZY HYPED 4 STAR that was not mentioned, then please let us know. I don't know why this is such a hard concept for you to grasp.
They're shooting at the cans!
Random gas pumper!!!!
We may never lose another game!
I have a bad feeling the hype is going to get to this kids head and he will fall flat this season. I hope i'm wrong but i just have that feeling.
it won't go to his head. Does my feeling cancel yours out?
sure lets go with that!
I have a feeling your feeling is completely irrelevant.
Is that he will be like dymonte and light it up early and then be MIA.
Do you think it would be weird if I camped out at Schembechler Hall and when he shows up I give him a big hug?
My hope is the standard one: start out at nickel, see action early (Mattison loves to play everybody in the OOC season, then dials back), and force his way into the starting nickel role by mid-season. I'd like to see him stay there all season, make a few big plays and otherwise be solid. Put him at at slot every now and again and throw him a bubble, have a trick play or two to give him an opportunity to bust out. Next year he forces his way past somebody for the starting CB spot and jumps to full-on star mode.
That's why I say bubbles and a few trick plays. He took bubbles all day in high school, he doesn't really need practice time for that. An end-around, something fun, if he's showing signs of greatness in practice.
This kid might be one of those guys - those rare ones. If he's showing signs in practice (a one-handed interception, beating everyone clean in wind sprints, juking someone out of their shoes on a return), you have to give him an oppotunity. If he drops the ball or runs for 3 yards, you send him back to the sideline (and defense). But if he takes an end-around 80 yards for a TD, you have to get that giuy on the field now. And if he's showing signs in practice, you have to give him a chance in the game. Just a chance.
I'd like to see J. Wilson and D. Thomas take steps forward this season. With these two and if Peppers is what everyone hopes for, the secondary could potentially be a strength on this team.
This thread took a weird turn.
Nice of him to show up on my birthday!
will have the Nickel spot locked up. He's gonna have a bigger impact than Peppers this season imho.
How long till I can buy the man a fishbowl at Good Time Charley's ;-)
It's difficult to see Peppers not cracking the starting lineup somewhere and making an immediate impact. Guys with that much physical talent and football skills don't come around very often.
Wonder if he will Red Shirt for a 5th year?
