It’s Game Day!

At least here in Paris, it is!

What’s everyone have planned for the game?

We land at DTW at 2pm and will head home to observe our traditional away game watching procedures. Wife will be in the corner of the couch, alternating between watching the game with her eyes and thru her eyelids. I will sit or stand…depending on which position is the most helpful for the team at that particular moment.

We’ve been invited to watch the game with friends but that’s not happening. And no guests are allowed at our house.

report from pasadena, from one of my old gang buddies who lives there:

Z, I’m seeing lots of people walking around the city wearing blue shirts or sweatshirts with a gold M on them. Any idea what that’s all about? 😂

he's a PSU grad, long-time friend, and a football fan.

Tell him The Michigan Marching Band was invited to play in the Parade of Roses.

My animal sacrifice is limited to a fine and meaty full slab of baby back ribs.  They're taking a bath in the Sous Vide unit (156 degrees for 24 hours), then will get a sun tan under the broiler.  That and the Fanny Farmer's Mac'n'Cheese I just put in the oven.  The only thing I need to make it perfect for my wife and I is for Harbaugh and Moore to have read Brian's impassioned pleas in the preview and a Michigan beatdown shutting a pile of cakeholes across a wide swath of the country.

In games that have me anxious, I am standing almost through the whole thing, about 3 feet from the TV.  Kinda like my days in the student section!  Some things never change.

I drink but rarely eat during an anxiety-ridden game.  My appetite is gone when the nerves are shot.

I had the same plan but then my son asked if he could come over to watch the game. He is one of the few people who understands my intense level of anxiety while watching Michigan, so he is allowed. 😀

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to watch. I usually don't watch big games until the 4th quarter and then only if we are safely winning. But superstition-wise, we've probably lost more games that I haven't watched than won so I'm unclear as to how I should handle this. I'm going to order chipatis for sure. There's a place in Chicago that opened some 30 years ago (by a Michigan grad) and they have the old Pizza House version of chipatis. So definitely doing that, as I always do.

We've had guests the last two years. Changing that up to no guests. I'll have my traditional pregame rum and coke, then only doing shots of the good stuff bourbon after each touchdown we score. I hope to be plowed in the 4th. GO BLUE!!

I watch in the office. I must be sitting when Michigan is on offense. Tomorrow I will wear my t-shirt with Go Blue on it in Hindi. My daughter wanders in and out and studies me warily. My wife looks in from the living room and asks, "How are they doing?" She already knows, having checked the score on Google throughout.

Tomorrow, we'll have the traditional southern meal of cornbread and greens and black-eyed peas. Somewhere in those peas, a dime will be floating. If I get that dime in my bowl, you know we are going to win.

We are watching from Rome!  I am connecting by VPN to the States and connecting the laptop HDMI to the tv. Of course I am at an AirBNB condo with family friends that are Alabama fans (at least half of them are). Still, I have an unopened bottle of champagne to celebrate after the Michigan victory. GO BLUE!!!

Will be wearing a Michigan sweatshirt that was my dads.  He passed away on 12/27/15 when Harbaugh was announced as coach on the radio..was the last thing he said to my mom before going to the bedroom and passing away

I have worn it every Saturday this year (except when has been warm the beginning of the football season)

So I have a certain attachment to Harbaugh despite my criticisms of him at times

As a side note...did anyone watch the Sam Webb preview?  He mentioned in the beginning that JJ was in tears at halftime of the MD game due to pain

I will try to stay busy, so a few hours of end-of-year work, then change the oil in my truck!  Mrs. Jones will be preparing spaghetti bolognese for dinner, which results in an open bottle of wine, so that’s a bonus.

I still have Covid, but I will watch alone in my basement. Probably pace for most of the beginning with sit breaks on commercials. Wife doesn’t care about the game other than how cranky I get.

Since Mrs Mgoblue78 and I learned decades ago not to venture out with the amateur drinkers, here's tonight's celebration:

Roku gin martinis w. blue cheese olives, a nice Malbec, Osso Bucco w. veal shanks from yesterday's pilgrimage to Cantoro Market and finished off with a Christmas gift bottle of champagne from the next door neighbors.

Happy New Year, and Go Blue!

It's fun to finally get to watch a game somewhat relaxed again. This season was tiring and stressful for a number of reasons and everything since MSU has been somewhat chaotic. I'd love a national title, but I don't expect it so it'll be fun to be able to pull for the team without my blood pressure being through the roof
