Injury Report (good and bad)

Per Harbaugh:

McCaffrey and McKeon are doubtfull for Rutgers this week.  McCaffery suffered a concussion, while McKeon is dealing with some sort of knee injury after his TD reception.

Harbaugh, in regards to Zach Charbonnet, "Feel like Zach's in a good place...He was back last week, he's back this week"  Whatever that means.

Regarding Tru Wilson, "It's possible to get Tru back...We'll see."  So maybe?

I mean, they only ran something like 20 plays in the first half of the game.  Nobody got "utilized" particularly well.  Still, Charbonnet was out there and got a couple of carries, caught a pass, and was on pass protection into the 4th quarter.  They rotated backs through and I don't blame them for not wanting to waste carries late in a blowout on a guy who has some lingering issues physically.

Zero insider information here, but the way Harbaugh and others keep talking about him, I have a hunch that Charbonnet's surgical knee swelled up after the Army game and had to get drained, hence the wrongly reported "surgery" to clean it up.

He would have likely taken the bye week off then been OK to practice the next week.   The coaches would have made a point to limit his workload though, which seems like that was what they did.

It would explain most of the situation at hand.  The reports of him needing surgery, the limited play, and Harbaughs comments today.

With Shae out, who the hell thought it would be a good idea having McCaffery run the ball and risk him getting hurt too. They were getting monster hits on them almost every time they snapped the ball, they didn’t need to further risk getting them hurt in a blowout loss (which is exactly what happened to McCaffery).

I absolutely hate this offense for our quarterbacks.

Somebody please tell me why we don’t have depth at the running back position in the 5th year of the 7 million dollar man’s term?

This isn't a bad question. I would guess the coaching staff was counting on having 7 backs this year:

Chris Evans

O'Maury Samuels

Tru Wilson

Christian Turner

Zach Charbonnet

Ben VanSumeren

Hassan Haskins

The luck this team has had at the RB position is obnoxious. Typically, you'd think you're doing ok with 6 RBs, but then you lose everyone.

Evans: academics

Samuels: criminal investigation

Wilson: injury

Charbonnet: injury

Turner: injury/blocking

VanSumeren: fumble

Haskins: Not ready ? Haven't seen much of him

I believe Samuels and Evans were both dismissed from the team after signing day, so that left some major depth holes and not much of any way to fill them. Following the Tru Wilson injury, we all of a sudden became extremely vulnerable there with nothing but youth. With this day of free agency... I mean transfer portal, it's pretty difficult for any team to have an abundance of talent at any position where you lose arguably your top 4 guys (Evans, Samuels, Wilson, Charbonnet).

If Zach and DPJ were healthy enough to to play in garbage time why didn’t they start with them on the field? 4 wide with DPJ in 1 slot and really challenge the defense? Just as confused as anyone I guess.

Expect none of them this weekend, maybe Charbonnet plays. If McKeon is a "maybe" next week that probably means multiple weeks.

Didn't hear any member of the media ask during Jim Harbaugh's Monday press conference:

As tough as Shea Patterson’s may be, is the injury to his chest and shoulder preventing him from practicing and playing without pain?

What’s the extent of Zach Charbonnet’s injury and is it preventing him from practicing and playing at full speed, even though he played at Wisconsin?

What happened to Josh Ross that caused him to miss most of the Wisconsin game?  Has he been practicing and when will he next be able to play?

How has Dylan McCaffrey been responding to treatments for his concussion?

What's the extent of Tru Wilson’s injury that has kept him out for a few weeks? Has he been practicing at full speed?

After playing on Saturday, has Jon Runyan, Jr. fully recuperated from his injury?

Has Luigi Vilain ever recovered from his injuries?  I noticed him on the sidelines at Wisconsin, but don't remember him seeing any game action. Has he been practicing?

Would Cade McNamara be ready to play if either Shea Patterson or Joe Milton were injured or became ill before or during the Rutgers game?

I'll be honest here I'm kind of tired of JH speak when it comes to injuries. the whole ZC thing is just fucking stupid. "he's in a good place" is that mentally? physically? my biggest concern ALREADY with ZC is over utilization. He carried the ball 33 times and played 65 plays against Army, man I know we have hardly any depth at RB but if I was his parents and he himself I'd be really concerned (after having a knee scoped in the spring and cleaned up) about how much he is being utilized already. This kid may have a short career if they aren't careful. I guess even more of a reason to start opening it up and throwing it more and quicker short passes where we don't have to worry about pass protection as much.

Great! Sounds like we're gonna play an injured Charbonnet again (why not let him get back to 100%?, is Christian Turner that bad?) and have no running game. Of course it is Rutgers so it should be fine.
