Indiana Removes Big Ten Logo from Jerseys, Helmets Prior to Outback Bowl

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on January 2nd, 2021 at 10:09 AM

They get screwed out of playing in the B1G Championship Game, and then they get screwed out of playing in a New Year's Six game.

And Tom Allen says the logo removal doesn't mean anything.

Riiiiiiiight.

This doesn't mean anything

If Tom Allen and the Hoosiers wanted to make an actual difference they'd drive to the B1G offices and take a HUGE shit on Kevin Warren's desk.

You seem to have developed a fascination with fecal matter, at least of late. I have not bothered to research your posting history. This is merely an observation. I hope this does not negatively reflect on the condition of your bowels. If it does, I am sure there are a great many posters with ideas of how to resolve your concerns.

I think their issue is the notion that the Big Ten would not even consider changing the rules if the roles were reversed. I can't say I wouldn't also be pissy, but I also don't exactly blame the Big Ten. Their goal is to, like, win stuff and get money for it. One of the reasons Larry Scott is so hated is because he isn't good at putting Pac 12 teams in good positions.

Nebraska starts the season suggesting it has issues being in the Big Ten. Indiana ends the season removing the Big Ten logo from its uniforms.

If this keeps up, the Big 10 may once again have only 10 schools.

Penn State made sense. The additions after that did not. Instead of Nebraska I would have liked to see Notre Dame, and then Pitt when Notre Dame inevitably turned us down. Just skip on Rutgers and Maryland altogether.

Notre Dame/Pitt maintains the high academic standards of the conference, brings in a quality football/basketball program, maintains the footprint of the conference and gets us to the 12 that guaranteed a conference title game (before the NCAA changed the rules to allow the Big 12 to have one with 10 teams)

Have always liked annexing Missouri, then keep Nebraska, annex Kentucky, drop MD & Rutgers and let them go the ACC. Good academics at Mizzou. Mizzou shares borders with IA, IL, NE & KY. KY shares borders with OH, IN, IL & MO.

KY would also be a good fit in BB, at least as good as MD.

Nobody is leaving the B1G. Some schools may bitch and complain when they get the short end of the stick on scheduling or bowl games or policies, but there is no conference that mints money the way the B1G does. Also, where would they go? No one can hack it as an independent anymore, not even Ohio State. The Big XII Conference that Nebraska left is a shell of its former self. No one wants Indiana. Penn State could theoretically bolt for the ACC, but again, why take such a drastic step only to face higher travel costs and a lower annual payout?

When it comes to beef with the B1G, everyone is all talk. No one wants to give up their fat checks.

It's true that Nebraska (and Colorado, and Texas A&M, and Missouri, for that matter) left the Big XII because of Texas, but it had nothing to do with how they fared against Texas on the field. It had more to do with Texas constantly throwing its weight around to skew the conference's politics and finances in its favor. This was especially grating to the original members of the old Big 8 (with the exception of perennial bottom-dwellers and basketball schools like Iowa State and Kansas, who had no choice but to put up with it), but also to the other Texas schools who had MSU-like inferiority complexes vis-a-vis Texas dating back to the Southwest Conference days. The final straw for Nebraska and Colorado was the creation of the Longhorn Network, which basically destroyed any chances for the Big XII to have its own TV network like the B1G, ACC, Pac-12, and SEC.

Texas is like the Bruce Willis of college athletics programs. Major star power, major pain in the ass to work with.

I'd love having the Big Ten adding another Ohio school like Cincinnati to break Ohio State's firm lock as the only viable power 5 team in the 4th/5th richest football state.  Drop Michigan State too so we don't have to compete with them for our paltry talent in here too.  One can dream.

I’m laughing at IU. One good season in how long??? And they making demands? GTFOH. They don’t even have basketball anymore to puff their chests out

At least they’re not afraid to call out the big ten, something Michigan is never able to do after repeatedly getting screwed over and over and over and over by them..

The University has an obligation to fans of its athletic programs, and sometimes that includes answers to things we'd like to know.

However, it has many other obligations as well, including memberships in a wide variety of organizations. That sometimes requires public opposition to an organization's policies. More often it  requires being a good "citizen" of those many organizations, working privately with its various members. Not everything should be hashed out in public.

On the one hand I can’t stand Tom Allen, but on the other you have to respect the way he loves and stands up for his team. That said, I don’t think taking the patch off was the best way to make his point.  It really isn’t just a shot across the bow of the Big Ten as much as it is a sign of disrespect to all of the other schools in the BIG that have to abide by the league offices’ shenanigans and yet hide their displeasure and vent their concerns privately.

There have been many times in the past with more valid questions, such as the history of abysmal inconsistent officiating, than Indiana’s perceived sleight that have been handled with discretion. They should not have made a stink the one time that they were on the wrong end of a judgment call. This is why that while I wish Michigan made more of a public fuss sometimes, unless your play on the field really backs up your argument it usually comes off as petty and opens the complainers up to deserved ridicule.

Pro Tip- If you have young children get your buddies and their young children and spend a Saturday with everyone at a big table at Hooters.

Every girl in the place wants to come visit.  The kids get balloons, crayons, and attention. The men get to drink beer, eat food, and watch football as well as taking the kids off mom’s hands for the day.

It’s better than puppies.
