This is reasonable, since part of the purpose of training there is to let the IMG guys get some familiarity with the team.

A lot of snarky critics criticized signing of the stars as a "circus".
Okay, I'd show them a maze and blue circus of football excellence and, plant seeds that will pay off three and four years down the road.

Bring all the 15,16,17 yo high schoolers and their coaches, Saban is going to hate this.
February 6th, 2016 at 10:35 PM ^
If we aren't pissing other coaches-teams off then we become forgotten about, ala purdue football.
February 6th, 2016 at 5:33 PM ^
Yea, go camp out at the local bowling alley and putt putt and see if they show up.
Are you seriously asking this?

I believe this trip will be more Harbaugh n co recruiting Dylan Moses and his teammates than Michigan practicing anything new worth watching.

He's been pegged to LSU since forever. The only reason any other school would have a shot is because he left Louisana to play at IMG.
Other than Moses, kids like Ruiz and Kaindoh are very much on the table from IMG judging by their current crystal ballz.

I believe it was Kaindoh who looked even better then Gary when IMG played Paramus.

What?

I believe Harbaugh gave everyone a vague idea of what is going to happen down there in interviews - something like four practices, complete with workouts and meetings, but also time at the beach, putt-putt and other spring break activities and time to connect with IMG Academy as well. As to whether or not any of it will be open to the public, nothing was said, but I would guess that access is going to be limited if anyone even gets it. That's just a guess, but they do like to keep the submarine below on extended voyages.

More on IMG campus security: https://www.imgacademy.com/current-students-and-parents/campus-safety
As the website invites us to do, I called their Anonymous Tip Line to report one a student "making a poor decision" (it was Isaac Nauta choosing Georgia).

Yeesh. IMG takes boarding school and talent agencies to a whole new level.

My daughter is 8 months old and I was wondering if they have opened a feeder pre-school. If not, shame on them, because the market is there.

the history of IMG Academy, it started as the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy. They have trained 10 #1 players in the world in tennis over the past 30 years. While football is a recent endeavor there, they have been doing the boarding school thing for a long time for world class tennis players (Monica Seles, Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova, and Jalena Jankovic to name a few)

They might wanna work on their American men's tennis talent search. Talk about a fall from grace.
Or do we thank Roger Federer's 2000s dominance for that?

You sure?
The champions of tennis started winning titles around his age.

Nick Bollettieri has esseintially said that it's hard to produce American champions or not many turn up because the European and especialy poorer eastern Europeans are so willing to work incredibly hard and with total focus and discipline whereas American kids (and their parents), not so much.
February 6th, 2016 at 10:18 PM ^
I'm a little skeptical about that. I think a much bigger factor is that playing primarily on clay as a junior (which europeans do and americans do not) provides a better foundation for the dominant style in today's game. Aggressive play is rewarded much less than grinding athleticism in the modern game (mostly because of the differences in strings from the 90s to today, strangely enough).
The other factor is that in many european countries, tennis is the second most popular sport, and gets outstanding athletes playing it. In America, it's fifth at best. Like splitting a recruiting territory among many schools, America splits its athletes among many sports, and top-tier tennis quality suffers.
February 6th, 2016 at 10:30 PM ^
Tennis has always been 2nd fiddle. You think Michael Jordan was going to pick up a tennis racket?
There has to be something else wrong in the recruiting pool. The Connors, McEnroes, Samprases, Agassis, Changs and Roddicks weren't the "top" athletes of their generations either.
February 6th, 2016 at 10:33 PM ^
It's different now because the sport has evolved to place a much higher premium on athleticism. In the days of McEnroe, it didn't matter so much. Now it, does. Though, I think the surface and style is the bigger factor. Big serve/big forehand does not win you majors anymore, and that's how you learn to play on american hard courts. All of the great players of the past 15 years have been outstanding movers.

The US Academy should go figure out what makes Federer so good at moving around and apply it here.
The fact that he's still a top 2 player in the world at his age is mind boggling. Must be genetics at this point.
