Illinois' defense is impressive

Why can't Michigan have defense like that?

Koenning has improved their defense greatly in one year. Can GERG do that at UofM?

It's the best MSU has faced by far, but this is only an averageBig Ten D. It's just making MSU look bad b/c MSU ain't that good. We, however, are that bad.

I agree. I WAS a supporter of RR, but he has really screwed things up.  We have  had 3 of the worst defenses in Michigan football history and the future still isn't looking to bright as of right now.

Our defense would make Allegany State fans complain.

We should fire Richrod so we can lose Denard and everything our offense has become.  I would love to have 2-3 more miserable seasons while we install a new system, which would probably be the exact system Michigan used prior to RichRod (towards the end of the Lloyd Carr era I believe everyone wanted to kill our O coordinator).  The University chose a direction for the program to go, stick by it.  Our offense is YOUNG and they are already a JUGGERNAUT.  The defense is YOUNG and INEXPERIENCED and TERRIBLE.  The D can't get any worse, therefore they will improve each year, and we should see a significant improvement next year.  Not to mention our schedule next year consists of OSU, ND, Nebraska, @MSU, @IOWA.  With another year of experience this is a VERY managable schedule.  And if I'm not clear I'm talking a legitimate shot at getting to the Big Ten Title Game.  When is the last time we had that type of expectation?  Freshman grow most with game experience and SPRING PRACTICE.  Most of our secondary has the game experience, but have never been through a spring practice.  If I told you all we were 5-1 at this point in the season  7 weeks ago you would have came in your pants with joy.

Illinois had a couple highly rated recruiting classes a few years ago, and now the members of those classes are upperclassmen.  So, talent + experience = good defense.

We, on the other hand, have a defense with underclassmen littering the two deep.  Youth = bad defense, even if it is highly rated.

If only this blog had written a post pointing this out yesterday...

I laughed so loud when they said that shit haha..

Almost as bad as the other night on the BTN when Dinardo said MSU was the most impressive team so far because they play the hardest schedule in the Big Ten.. What a total dumbass

Yes, this is the youngest Michigan defense ever.  Just look at the secondary.

And normally older players that make mistakes are sitting behind older players that don't make mistakes, but this requires an entire two deep loaded with older players and very talented younger players.  Like Iowa's defensive two-deep listed on the front page.

Gee, that was difficult.

Koenig is a good DC, but he's got a lot of older talent to work with. So it's a combination really, good schemes + veteran players.

His point is the elephant in the room for the foreseeable future.   Right now, not a lot can be done.  But there hasn't been one suggestion or question, no matter how off the wall or repetitive, that I didn't read.
