Icers upset #11 Penn State at Yost

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

With the win, we have clinched the 5 seed in the B1G Tournament next week at Joe Louis Arena.

Don't look now, but Michigan has won 3 of their last 4 games, all of them against Top-15 teams.

All of those were in regular use in my local paper as late as the '70s or '80s.

As a matter of fact, I just looked in the Michigan Daily searchable archive (https://digital.bentley.umich.edu/midaily) for the most recent use of each of those in a headline.  You would be surprised:

Linksmen:  1973
Thinclads:  1986
Gridders:  1996
Spikers:  2006
Grapplers:  2007
Netters:  2007
Cagers:  2009
Tankers:  2009
Icers:  2012

No win really matters, but every win is fun.

A three-win streak at the Joe is highly, highly improbable. But, you know, anything can happen, so may as well enjoy the ride.

Taking my "Farewell to the Joe" pilgrmmage next weekend for the Wings-Avs Game. I only am able to go to the championship game for the B1G tournament, hopefully they make a big run so I can see some M hockey too!

I hate everything Penn State because they are unrepentant Paterno zombies, but how are they so good at buying programs and just moving from zero to the top?

3 games is about as easy as it gets. In the CCHA we would've had to win two 3-game series and then the two games at the Joe. We've beaten everyone in the league at least once this year so it's certainly possible, especially since we're warm lately (hot wouldn't be the right word)
