I drove by campus yesterday (observations)
I guess I hadn't really realized that Newsterbaan backed up right to the road like Yost does, though I should have. Driving along the edge of campus now, seeing the new building, Yost, and the big house right between them in the distance, it's just awesome. They fit together so well, and the place is HUGE! You almost feel like there's some sort of gravitational pull sucking you in, and you just want to pull in and bask in it.
If, in fact, they redo Crisler with a new fascade, that whole area of campus is just going to resonate with athletic power. A Mecca.
Just thought you'd like to know.

I have a friend that lives in Busan teaching English this year. What do you do to watch the games over there?

Yes, I am eager to see the finished practice facility. It was looking good back in April for the Spring Game.

Even though I was already excited for the season to start, your post has just upped my level of excitement. Great post!!

I ride my bike by the Big House all the time just to bask in its eternal glory.

glad they didn't go all ultra modern.

The first time I was ever at the Big House and on campus was for the spring game back in April and I have to say I basically walked around in awe the whole time.

Looking forward to seeing the progress on the stadium too. Last time I saw it was the final Yost game of the hockey season, which was back in....wow, March. There was only about a quarter of the facade up at that point. I'll bet it just drips of awesomeness now.

I've gotta be honest, I have only been by it a few times, but I've nearly mistaken it for Yost at least twice.

Now go start some MGoThreads.

They've really done a nice job incorporating the new architecture with the old. The new stadium structures have a retro feel and a few years from now, I bet visitors will be surprised to learn that they haven't been around all along.
Actually, this can be said for the campus as a whole (with the exception of the weird new B-School building). I really like most of the new construction that has gone on over the past decade. The additions to the Art Museum and the Kelsey Museum are really well done.

Love the Newsterbaan nickname too. I'd give you points if I could Blaze!!!
If you ever get to check out the locker room (like if they give tours before the Spring Game) do so. Its beautiful! If there's a better facility in the country I'd be surprised. The only knock I have is the metal folding chairs look a little cheap next everything around them. I've been in a few major league and NFL lockerrooms before and even director's chairs look nicer. Just a thought.

Than is a conjunction which is used for showing inequality.
Then is an adverb or noun. It implies no comparison.

another thought. What are they doing with Oosterbaan???? Hmmmm.......might be a good time to finally give the lacrosse team their varsity dues now that a facility is free and they haven't lost a game in almost two years. Anyone want to open this can of worms??
August 13th, 2009 at 7:04 PM ^
Oosterbaan has never been just a football facility. Baseball, softball, field hockey and the two soccer teams all practice in it. As for lacrosse, whether or not it becomes a varsity sport probably has more to do with finances than facilities.

"In addition, Elbel Field is going to be converted to FieldTurf within the next year. Stadium lighting and a permanent scoreboard will be added, along with seating for 3,000.
"This will finally give Michigan an outdoor lacrosse facility. Most exciting, the team is finalizing plans to construct a new lacrosse-only service building next to Elbel Field that will include locker rooms, offices, meeting rooms, equipment, training and a 5,000 square-foot weight room. Once the new building is completed Michigan lacrosse will have the best facilities in the nation, at any level."

Wow. I just hope they don't close off Elbel for students wanting to play pick-up games.

The only problem with that is that the blacktop portion of the field is for the MMB. I certainly hope that they are not planning on displacing the band from their field named after a former leader.
