How much longer can you last ? - YOUR swim lane

Submitted by PeterKlima on

It has been about 48 hours since the news of Brady Hoke's firing was made official.  Since then, we have enjoyed --

  • Dozens of CC threads
  • JH being offered lots of money - YEAH
  • JH being approached through SF - YEAH
  • footballscoop, JH not a candidate - BOO
  • Sam Webb, JH may be more unlikely - BOO
  • Brian Griese says he is involved
  • Cowherd says a surprise name will be known soon
  • FlightTracker blocked - BOO/YEAH????

Meanwhile....

  • Florida quickly finds an unsplashy coach
  • Nebraska quickly finds an unsplashy coach
  • Michigan coaches told to stop recruiting, clear out
  • It seems like it could be a couple more weeks before anything is known

When do you call it quits and log off the board?

EDIT: more accurate title

It depends on whether or not you-know-who is a realistic candidate. If he is, then I'm willing to wait until January. If not, then we should wrap this up within the next week or so.

I came down with a crapppy cold on Monday night, and have been down since so the timing has been perfect - I haven't missed a thing. But once I come out of it, I may have to retreat a bit. Checking Twitter is a more succinct way of keeping on top of things.

My emotions are all over the place. Yesterday JH was interested and today he might not be. We "will be very happy' this weekend or not...I don't know what to think. What's next? Saban is coming to Michigan? I don't know that I can take this much longer and it has only been a couple days!!! Help me little baby Jesus!

Coaching Rumors: Harbaugh remains a hot name Reply -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All eyes are on Stanford’s Jim Harbaugh heading into Monday night’s Orange Bowl against Virginia Tech. The former Michigan quarterback has become the hottest coaching name in both the collegiate and NFL ranks, with several NFL sources now saying they believe Harbaugh is headed for Michigan to replace Rich Rodriguez. First things first -though most speculate there will be, there’s no opening at U-M yet. Athletic director David Brandon told us at Sunday night’s basketball game he would complete his evaluation this week and have something to say later in the week. That’s Tuesday at the earliest, Thursday at the latest, we’re hearing. If he does make a move and hire Harbaugh, some have opined it will only be for the short term. The Detroit News’ Terry Foster, for example, who also does radio for 97.1 WXYT Radio in Detroit, said Sunday night on Fox 2 Sportsworks that Michigan “would be getting its Nick Saban” if Brandon hired Harbaugh, insinuating that Harbaugh would have one eye out the door from the moment he arrived. Others who know Harbaugh well insist that’s simply not the case and that he’d be setting up camp in Ann Arbor for the long haul, wanting to raise his family in a college town the way he was brought up. They insist he’d be a “perfect fit” and that he knows it. That includes family members, close friends, you name it. I spoke with Harbaugh this summer for a feature on the ’85 team (25th anniversary piece) in our 2010 football preview. We interviewed several from that team, including John Kolesar, Clay Miller, Mike Mallory and others, but you can’t really write that feature without Harbaugh’s memories, and they all said the same. So for the record, there were no ulterior motives on our part. Rodriguez, entering his third year, was Michigan’s coach, and none of the guys we interviewed (including Harbaugh) were asked for, or offered, an opinion on Rodriguez and his staff, just hopeful Michigan would get back to being Michigan again. [The list of those supportive of Rodriguez, by the way, also includes former coach Gary Moeller, who sat next to us in the press box at Ohio State (one of the highlights of the late season was breaking things down with the coach that day. He offered, “What I wouldn’t give for one more quarter on the sidelines in this game.”)]. But we digress. I wasn’t sure if Harbaugh would get back with me, because it was late in the game and we were on deadline. We exchanged texts, and he essentially climbed a mountain in Peru, where he was working with a Catholic charity to build houses, to call me, and we spoke for a good half hour. He talked about what makes Michigan special, and how guys like his father, former Michigan assistant Jack, former U-M line coach Jerry Hanlon, Bo Schembechler, etc. were everything to him, his heroes and his foundation for success. He spoke of the picture that ran in the Ann Arbor News when he was a young boy, one in which he was on the field celebrating a Rick Leach touchdown against Ohio State. “I kept that picture in my locker at school for years,” he said. And he still has a copy somewhere. There was much more, some off the record, some for another day. Does Harbaugh regret the comments he made about Michigan’s academics? I didn’t ask him because it wasn’t relevant to the story, but others close to him have said he absolutely does, and has since he made them a few years back. Bottom line: Jim Harbaugh is no Nick Saban - not even close. If Brandon does decide to go in a different direction and brings Harbaugh to Michigan, then that should be the least of anyone’s worries.

Drain plug has been pulled. Pool is empty. I need to pretend that football does not exist for a month. Can't be disappointed by Wolverines or Lions. Basketball and Hockey are my life - at least until I hear news of a hire. Enjoy!

I've been disappointed twice and both times we had shots at Les and one of those times, perhaps Harbaugh.  Can "we" get it right this time?  Its hard to keep the faith.

My work efficiency is non-existent right now and that is not good.

Help us Jim Hackett, you're our only hope.

It's slow at work right now so I can take this for a LONG time. I'm bored that there isn't more rumors coming out. Where's the creativity people?!

If this goes on much longer I will get fired. My productivity has basically halted and my boss raised an eyebrow today. So yeah I need this to happen fast because I obviously have my priorities out of whack.

... but long time lurker so I sort of know how things go around here.

This forum is the only thing that keeps me entertained at work, so my swim lane lasts until we bring Jimmy home or until we get tired of complaining that we:

  • Didn't get Harbaugh A
  • Didn't get Harbaugh B
  • Didn't get The Hat
  • Didn't get Mullen
  • Settled for Hoke 2.0 (PLEASE NO!!!)

I haven't laid any of this out in Visio and made a proper swim lane, of course, but I usually will log off during the normal times - meetings and when I am alseep, or indeed during my favorite shows and family time. Other than that, being that I help to mod the place, I sort have to read all of these, although "skim suspicious thread" will probably be somewhere in the process map in Visio.

Never. I'm here until the contract is signed and the press conference is held to announce our new head football coach.... . . . . . . . . . . . . . Greg Schiano. I just have that feeling.
