How much has RR seat cooled?

Submitted by natesezgoblue on

2 big wins.  Im assuming we start 5-0.  Is he guaranteed to be here next year?

will not ultimately determine the temperature of that seat.  All that matters is what DB and MSC think.  DB seems more than willing to deflect the heat himself at this point, and I think that has a lot to do with RR's calm demeanor this season.

I think the national hubub over the "hot seat" ends with a win over MSU.  Wins over MSU.  Couple that with wins over BG, Mass and Indiana and you have a bowl eligble team with victories over 2 of the three biggest rivals I think would quash the hot seat talk.

Not saying that he must beat MSU to save his job, but that to me would shut the critics.

Whoever said it yesterday was dead on-this is the new meme. "Well we started 4-0 last year and look where we ended up." Don't worry about a different quarterback leading a different team, no reason to get excited because 2-0 this year is exactly like 4-0 last year. Ugh. I can't stand people who think they know more than our AD.

Actually, though my header suggests he needs eight wins, I'm in the camp that thinks he's safe unless disaster strikes because I think Brandon's already spent enough time around him to realize what he's got.

Rodriguez dismissal would be pretty disappointing considering the direction he's taken things. Trying to change an offensive scheme and win with someone else's players is difficult. Doing so in a situation where it's been done a certain way for a century, is damn near impossible. Until he cycles a recruiting class or two, firing him would be short-sighted and irresponsible.

I would give Rich Rodriguez until Denard's class graduates, at least.

Anyone that thinks that RR is going to lose his job now (barring some unforeseen catastrophy) is NUTS!  Brandon has already said that he wants to see progress...do you think he's seen it?  Do you really think that he'd be praised for firing RR and not letting him continue to coach the single greatest player to wear the Maize and Blue since Charles Woodson, and perhaps the best QB off all time at Michigan.  This team plays with passion and heart.  Every player on the field is pumped after every good play, they want to win, they want to bring Michigan back from the darkness.

If RR were fired after this season, Michigan would spiral into the abyss, not get better like so many people think.  Use your eyes...can't you see it?  This is a team, it is RR's team, and it's still a very young team that will only get better.

Personally, I think all you haters and doubters owe RR an apology -- he's withstood more hatred and ire than almost any coach I've ever seen, and yet he hard the strength to hang in there and put this team on the field.  It is still early, but I think this team can beat ANYONE in the nation.

What are you afraid of chicago?  We've been in the backwater for 3 seasons now, and when we have a legit contender at the helm, you still pull up.  Before, I would have said that Michigan had to play a near perfect game, and have the opposition hand them a few to win.  Now, as we saw vs. ND, Michigan doesn't have to play its best to win.  If they bring their best vs. the Big 10 this year, I don't see anyone beating them -- not MSU, Iowa, PSU, Wisconsin, nor OSU.  Call me a homer if you like, I just don't see it.  These past two games have given the coaches (especially on defense) a great many points to work on with these young kids, and there is no doubt that they're going to be better every week.  DR is a special player, not only for what he himself does, but because he makes everyone else on the team play that much harder for him.  You've got to believe.  I've never once doubted RR nor this team, and I am being rewarded for my loyalty with one of the greatest 2 game displays in college football history.  And just think...he's only a SOPHOMORE.  Mark my words, Michigan will be in the NC hunt this season, DR will be in the hunt for the Heisman, and RR will be in the hunt for the Coach of the Year!  I just pity the fools that doubted Michigan and kicked us when we were down!

Trust me my optimism is not alcohol induced, it comes from 34 years of watching Michigan football and knowing that NOBODY like Denard has ever set foot on Michigan's campus (at least not at QB) and NOBODY like RR has been at the helm since perhaps Yost.  Nothing I have said is crazy, you and the others have just lost all optimism and hope.  You've been beaten down by years of mediocrity and underachieving to the point where even when witnessing what we've seen the last two games, you still try to temper yourself so as not to get hurt.  I knew from day 1 when RR was hired that we would see a display like we've seen -- I never doubted once.  I knew that he would find that diamond in the rough that nobody else wanted as a QB, and Michigan was going to roll!  I knew that RR would eclipse what he did at WVU because at Michigan he can recruit and develop players that are far superior, and therefore the team can go farther.  I think the most distressing thing that has come of the struggles of late is the complete and utter pessimism and negativity that has been displayed by the Michigan faithful in the face of the adverisity.  There are STILL people claiming that RR should lose his job, that he's not done anything to improve the program, and that if he loses to MSU or OSU that he should be fired.  RR wouldn't have lost his job unless it was obvious to Brandon that the program had made no progress, that the players were undisciplined and incapable of playing hard to the end of the game.  RR has shown that he has done this, and he's also shown that he had the foresight to recruit, develop, and start the best player in college football and soon-to-be the greatest player in Michigan football history.

Then there's predicting us to be in the National Championship hunt. I've seen a lot of great Michigan Football teams.  And this isn't one of them.  It could be a very good Michigan Football team, but we're not going into Columbus undefeated. That's not losing hope.  That just using years of watching Michigan Football and making a fair assessment.

Now, if you want to say Rich will have us competing for titles, someday, maybe even one soon, that's fine.  But the defense is going to have to shore up quite a bit for that to happen.  Because all those teams at the top...Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, etc...they run pretty good offenses too.  And have top 5 defenses. He can get us there.  But it won't be this year.

We were pretty darn close to being 1-1...it's not like we dominated a mediocre ND team. Lets win some championships before we declare anybody the greatest at anything in Michigan history.

And only two have gone undefeated. And this team is no where near as good as those teams. From what they have. And what they've shown. They might be able to beat Anybody in a one game situation. But they can't beat everybody. So I don't have to pick one...because there's 8, any one or more of which they can lose. Because I'd be glad to bet any money of an undefeated season vs. a season with a loss, but I don't think Vegas is going to give me very good odds. Will you?

Denard's health and the defense are clearly going to the keys to a winning record. If the defense can improve, I can see us taking out Penn State, and to tell the truth, I don't think that we're too far off from slipping past Iowa. If the secondary can hold opponents from astronomical numbers, Denard(assuming he stays healthy) can take care of the rest at this rate. I just don't want to have a shootout every week.

On a side note, there is no chance in hell that Rich Rod loses his job, with significant improvement in nearly every offensive aspect, and the NCAA troubles coming to an end.

i keep thinking it would make our program look like such a mess if RR was canned after this year, even assuming we do no better than 6-6 somehow (and at this point i really don't see how it is possible for us to do that bad unless we have a major injury).  The affect on recruiting would be a disaster, no?  The "hot seat" talk just seems exaggerated to me.

He's cooled down going 2-0 against uconn and ND. Most said we'd split those games, fans and non fans included. With that said his seat is "cool" until we get 8 wins.

I don't think we need to discuss this.   "Will RR keep his job?" is yesterday's story.  Right now, the big story is how Denard Robinson is the hottest player in the country and how RR's system perfectly takes advantage of his skills.

im happy rich is starting to get his players, fast athletic teammates.  Having "shoelace" run 87 yards, and notre dame become quiet! Jumping though my ceiling, the boys are playing well. RR will use this to his advantage, having a game changer in D-Rob.  That pump fake, sorry run fake and then the throw was unreal.  Rich has great game plans.  As long as the players execute and play a hard edge! Fwiw ranked feels great, now lets just keep improving...towards Boise St.

I think the real "hot seat" is pretty cold right now.  As for the media-created one, it will be officially gone if they start 6-0.  Except, of course, for Rosenpuke, Shyster, and Dull.  Even if MIchigan manages to "shock the world" this season, all three will write about how RR is "exploiting poor Denard Robinson" to "win at all costs" and "save his job."

What the team as a whole has a so-so year, but Denard Robinson stays healthy most of the season and accounts for such a high percentage of the offense that his numbers are ridiculously large and he wins the Heisman?  Would Rich Rodriguez keep his job then?

A little, but it won't be ice cold until he starts winning Big 10 conference games

When you can beat the likes of Illinois and Purdue then the seat will cool down. No excuses losing to them anymore.
