How long til RRod just says the hell with it?
This post is nummy.
one week, tops
You just have to turn off the radio, and your blood pressure will return to normal.
To hell with it will come December 12, 2012. It has been written.
you mean December 21st...?
I thought everyone knew this already, but glad to see somebody gets basic calendar exchange rate math.. or something like that.
If the Mayans are wrong, I will only have three days to shop.
Crime Reporter, that was one of my favorite posts of all time - how am I the only one to +1?
Still grinning.
Can't say I would blame him, but with Journey's "Don't Stop Believing''" on constant repeat, Lord help me....but I gotta believe this is a comeback year
I think Rich Rod, like most good coaches, has too much pride/drive to suceed to leave before he turns the ship around, but I can definitely see him winning the Big 10 championship in 2011 and then saying screw you all and leaving for some SEC gig.
I hope you're joking because, otherwise, that might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Care to explain why?
Only if you care to explain your reasoning first.
1. When a person holds a grudge against their employer, they are more susceptible to switching jobs, even if the new job wouldn't be quite as good.
2. I would not be suprised if someone who holds a grudge against their employer were to switch jobs.
3. After all the shit RR has been through, he deserves to hold a grudge against Michigan.
4. I would not be suprised if RR were to switch jobs.
QED, bitches
corollary 1: I never said he's LIKELY to switch jobs. I mean I wouldn't be SUPRISED. There may only be a 10% chance of this happening, but I'm not totally suprised when things with a 10% chance of happening do occur.
yeah uh......"Hi, I'm Rich Rod. I took multiple years off my life while spending 2-3 years dealing with cosmic pressure to get UM out of the gutter. Now at last, I can compete for National Championships, my wife and kids are happy, and the doctor is no longer concerned that my blood pressure might send me to an early grave.
Now instead of reaping the fruits of what I've sown...LETS DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN LOLZ. MAYBE THIS TIME I CAN GET FIRED BEFORE I FIND SUCCESS!!!!! OOOOH LET ME REVAMP ANOTHER PRO STYLE OFFENSE - ROSTER. MAKE WAY GEORGIA!!!"
Oh no.
because he was so eager to coach the Crimson Tide
FWIW, I agree with you for the most part. I also think that winning changes enough minds that he'll probably stay though. I'm sure he regrets not taking the Alabama job at times though.
Nevermind.
The last thing he'll want to do is go through ANOTHER rebuilding process. The only way this happens is if an already stacked school comes calling (Meyer bolting for the NFL, USC realizing they made a huge mistake, etc). It's goin to be interesting to see how the media reacts to Rodriguez winning. I think sports media members should have their published articles tattooed to their body Memento style with the short term memory problems they all seem to have.
Mike Garrett (I hope):
Get here soon please. K thx.
The sweet isn't as sweet without the bitter.
BUT I'VE FORGOTTEN WHAT SWEET TASTES LIKE
...I got nothing.
Wait, I figured something out.

Hey, what ship is that in the picture?
And, why?
...is one of the ships I served in.
Nice. I was on Devastator and Bonhomme Richard.
Wait, what's this admissions deal? I've scoured ESPN for a scathing article suggesting the death penalty may be imminent for Michigan, but I've come up empty-handed so far.
Is eligible per NCAA, but hasn't been admitted yet.
I want RR to succeed as much as anyone, but it's not because I am a die hard RR fan it's because I am a die hard Michigan fan. It always amazes me how much sympathy people have for coaches and other extremely high paid professionals (e.g., pro athletes, CEO's) who get canned or simply find their jobs difficult for a period of time. RR was given a 6 year contract for nearly $2.5 million per year. Even if he gets fired (assuming it is not for "cause" but for just failng to win enough games), he probably is guaranteed the payout on most of the remaining years. Most guys I know would give their left nut to be in his position.
RR is a big boy. He made the decision to move from WVU to Michigan. With that move, we entrusted to him the winningest program in college football history (along with the emotional, psychological and, in some cases, physical well being of hundreds of thousands of Michigan alums and fans). Enough with the excuses and pity parties. Has RR had some significant hurdles tossed in his way? Sure, but if the job was a cakewalk and any old coach would do, why are we paying a guy nearly $15 million to do it?
RR is at an elite level program and needs to step up and show he is an elite level coach. An elite level coach gets the most out of the talent that he has. If he has elite level talent, he wins conference and national championships. But even when he does not have elite level talent, he is still competitive and even beats teams he probably shouldn't on paper. An elite level coach also should be able to succeed within the constraints of the University of Michigan's higher academic requirements. Bo and Lloyd did it at Michigan. Holtz did it at ND. Barnett did it at NW. Harbaugh appears to be doing it at Stanford. Joe Pa has done it for decades at PSU. And RR better be able to do it at Michigan or he is not the right person to coach my Wolverines.

You just defined Rodriguez's career prior to Michigan.
Note that he wasn't ever afforded "elite level" talent at Tulane, Clemson, or WVU if we define that as top-to-bottom on a roster, or top-10 recruiting classes.
That means we do not need to be making excuses or feeling sorry for him if Dorsey cannot meet Michigan's admissions standards. That was the point of my post.
Oo I know! When football season starts!
If Rich Rod doesn't get 8 wins he will be fired.
If Rich Rod gets more than that he'll be offered a job elsewhere and take it.
Either way, we will have no one to blame but ourselves.
[For the record, I don't actually believe either of the first two statements... for all you super serious folk out there.]
If RR were to get run out of town, there isnt anybody that's coaching above the HS level that is in a good situation that would even look at UM. I am sure that the administration is well aware of this as well. The only way he goes before the contract is if someone big approaches the school with interest in the job ahead of time.
4:32. Next Tuesday
RR knows that he has the pieces in place, and knows that once he gets things going, his team should challange for a slot in the MNC game on an annual basis and probably get there a few times. There really aren't that many jobs in the country where a coach has that kind of access, and the remainder of them are already filled.
I can't wait for September to get here.
All of this is academic, after a 5-0 start this year and a 9 to 10 game win season, the dust will settle, and we will be the favorites for a Big Ten title and in the national title hunt in 2011. If you believe otherwise and this is OK with you, go buy yourself a green and white shirt and some depends.
He got a break when he got this job, and I believe he knows and appreciates that. Stay tuned a few more months - the negativity will soon seem like a distant memory.
Let's not build this into some gigantic hardship. We had to deal with this kind of thing almost every year Carr was here. Some kids don't get admitted. It happens.
