Hoops Open Thread vs. Indiana

Submitted by BlackEvanDown on
Thread for the basketball game today vs. Indiana. In the first 7 minutes, Douglass has a long three and Novak has two. Manny has been forcing it, and Indiana looks a little sloppy without Creek. M will have to force turnovers to win this game. Luckily, the crowd has been pretty quiet because most of the Indiana students are not back yet.

But the odds of this team consistently playing good basketball at any point this year are starting to look pretty slim. I don't think it's hysterical to say that we should really be hoping for the NIT at this point.

I don't understand why.. it's like the state of Michigan is a huge vortex that sucks the talent out of everyone that comes here.. coaches and players included.. still.. I doubt JB gets fired.. in terms of representing the university, JB is probably the best coach out there. No one's going to criticize our ethics..

of our players being described as gritty, aggressive and tough. Those adjectives are great and all but we need to start getting some players that are described as athletic, fast, great leaper, pro talent etc...

I haven't had the chance to watch much this year so go easy please... 1. Is our defense THIS bad? Indiana looks like one of the better ball-moving and passing teams in the country right now. 2. Do we have a quota we must reach in 3pt shots every game? Follow up... does Stu have to take most of them from mid-court?

I agree. He has as much talent as anyone in the conference but he's been playing with his head up his a$$ this year. When Manny is in foul trouble and isn't having a good game, he needs to step up and lead this team. And he's not doing it.

is this team in a nut shell. All we can do is pass it around the top and turn it over if someone trys to drive it in. This is horrible to watch.

It's the whole looking like they're getting out hustled thing that's been killing me this game/season. This season has seemed Amaker-esque in that way. And we're not out of this one yet, but at this point it looks like the team just doesn't want it as badly as IU.

Oh, what the hell? I'm going to be negative: Imagine how good we could be if our two most talented players gave their all and worked hard on every possession? Sims is deluding himself if he thinks he's going to play in the league. Doesn't he realize what's on the line for him this season?

They're really not going to get this done, are they? After a whole week off to preprare, they're going to lay an egg in a game they absolutely have to have.

That's what's bugging me so much. To lose, but play hard is one thing. But to lose and play like crap is another entirely. However, I'd take the win and playing like crap without any bitching about it.

Novak shows a lot of heart and hustle but he can't do it alone. Started out shooting so hot , maybe a little tired from all the running he's doing so shots aren't falling. Last douglass shot was nice possession. didn't freak with expiring time. They just need to keep their heads and they can pull this out.

Novak and Douglass came to play. The rest are apparently still on winter break. I was hoping that this team would provide a successful and welcome respite from two years of football hell. I guess what's most disappointing is that, despite high expectations, that does not appear to be in the cards. Which leaves us Michigan fans with what exactly? Happy %^&*# New Year. Sorry to be so pissed and negative but . . . yeah.

part is if deshawn would have stayed on the floor he doesn't get called for a foul and doesn't foul out... thats one of those times that you just let the guy score...

do let him score that way you stay in the game for a bit longer... i do agree with you that if he was going to foul him that he should have made it count a little more... but by doing that you walk that thin line of is it a foul or a flagrant foul??? and with the way college refs call games i wouldn't surprised if they called a flagrant which is 2 shots and the ball....
