Hoke: starting QB to be named later this week
Was supposed to be named today.
Could it be that the longer this is dragged out, it's more likely to be Morris?
Hoke on QB decision: "We'll probably end up later in the week. we want to make sure we're right."

Hoke: "we feel good about both guys. other potential changes we'll get to later in the week"

Anyone listening to depressing music like I am?
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
Nope.
Working, doing real life things to provide a better life for my family.
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:34 PM ^
I'm glad I don't have to worry about that for a long time.

You realize you can have it all, right? Listen to gloomy music and hold down some job.
September 23rd, 2014 at 2:00 PM ^
Why would I want to listen to gloomy music? That shit's depressing.
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:55 PM ^
I'm listening to a lot of motown. Four Tops, Bill Withers.
And then I jump to the other side of the spectrum with Staind and 3 Doors Down.
Yeah.

He really should have not said anything one way or the other. Now he looks dumb again. PR isn't Hoke's strength.
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
When will he name a starting offense?
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
winning every week or this is going to implode. No matter what everyone thinks about the current staff, if this goes under, we will be in transition again. We at least recruited well with the last transition. I fear with another transition, talent will become sparse. Kids see what people are saying about the coach and university. There is no shortage of media outlets. Why would they want to come here? Maybe the vision of the new Presidnent will come true. Sports are not in the mission of the University. We will be the Harvard of the Midwest in sports. I though Utah would be a turning point. It was .. but South through a storm with no end in sight.

1) Both are great kids
2) Both are having a great week of practice
3) Both are doomed
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:31 PM ^
We also know
4) Insert most recent loss was a result of needing to execute better.
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:51 PM ^
Brady probably does want to execute the offense.

The decision has already been made, he's just not going to release it to the public. I mean why would he want Minnesota to know so they could gameplan for each scenario. You start Gardner, Minnesota loads up the box and forces Michigan to beat you with the pass. You start an inexperienced true Sophomore who looks like he could also be prone to turnovers, Minnesota loads up the box and forces Michigan to beat you with the pass. Oh...wait...
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:34 PM ^
there could be a new wrinkle this week and DG could look pretty good
I am cautiously optimistic
September 23rd, 2014 at 2:48 PM ^
I don't have a problem with not announcing it. I do have a problem with the lack of candor. If he had said, "I've made a tentative decision, but I don't have any reason to let Minnesota know that decision," I'd have been perfectly fine with his saying that. But, instead it sounds like we don't comment on these things so don't ask.

The starting QB for Saturday hasn't been decided because @DaveBrandonAD hasn't given me his final answer. He needs to discuss w/ Lloyd first

It's so pathetic that we are going through this. With a fifth-year senior with the experience and knowlege he possesses, one would think this would be a no brainer.
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:40 PM ^
The guys been through hell and back. You can't blame him for losing a step along the way. I guess the word I would use is sad, because I feel sad for Devin that it's come to this.

If Hoke moves Devin to the receiving corps I will lose what little respect for him I have left. Devin has done more for him than anyone else on the team:
- two position switches
- carries the cross of 9-effin-8
- sacrificed his body behind a poorly developed O Line
- tried to develop his passing skills despite lacking a actual positon coach
- learning a different scheme with new responsibilities....again
Yeah, Devin is struggling but god dammit he's earned the right to end his career on his own terms as the quarterback of this team.
Hoke moving him would be a slap in the face. "Well, Devin, thanks for everything but you just dont have it, kid. We're giving up on you." Morris has shown NOTHING that indicates he would provide an upgrade in performance at the position. Meanwhile everyone else is supposed to beleive they still have a shot at the POS B1G Title. What kind of message would that send to the rest of the team?

You think Morris could have done what Gardner did against OSU last year? If he had started that game, we probably would have lost 49-0.
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:59 PM ^
This decision, if it is not injury related is entirely about which QB is most likely to lead the team to a win this weekend. Hoke has himself in a position where he needs to win just about every game. There is no developing players for the NFL or seasoning a guy for next season. It is about winning right now.
Unless DG is hurt, I can't see Hoke picking Morris given this set of circumstances. I'm not insinuating that DG has earned the position, it just the best of two poor choices right now.

@BloomingtonBlue
Devin has eight to ten games left in his NCAA career. They already tried him at WR and it didn't work. They aren't going to switch him to WR or TE at this point in his career. If anything changes with him, it will be his spot on the depth chart under the letters "QB."

And yes, it didn't work. A whopping 266 yards and 4 TDs. That isn't stellar by any means. He never played WR until 2012 and it wasn't easy for him. The guy is a QB 100%.
September 23rd, 2014 at 4:49 PM ^
But he scored those four TDs in only eight games at WR. That's not bad at all for a guy playing the position for the first time.
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:39 PM ^
Minnesota, per the Toledo Blade, has made an assumption....
Kill said he's preparing for Minnesota to face Devin Gardner: We know what an explosive athlete he is, that’s who who have to prepare for.

we can expect Minnesota to try to blow up Devin, although I believe explosives are way out of line.
September 23rd, 2014 at 2:28 PM ^
If our offensive staff would take advantage of DG's talents then we would put up points. They refuse to bend so we are doomed. I like DG but he is being setup to fail.
September 23rd, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
I'm not going to lie, I completely forgot Jerry Kill was still at Minnesota.
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:55 PM ^
about how many Coke products equal a Minnesota ticket? I have 2 extra tickets and I don't want to get screwed. So it's OK for me to trade 1 ticket for a 12 pack? Should I write the AD? I'd hate to cut into his action ...

Give Morris a game. If the offense still doesn't go, then play Speight. If that doesn't work, then play Bellomy, so on and so forth. Do whatever it takes.

I guess my point was that I don't really care who the QB is, as long as he can make the offense move and they win games.
