I guess the ducks didn't do their research and realize Mattison was the man behind the magic for our Defense.

Cannot believe Brady Hoke was our coach for so long! You suck Dave Brandon!!!!!

The Ducks only gave up 42 in regulation. Compared with 70 last week and 51 the week before, that's progress I guess. Cal seems to put up 40 a game regardless of opponent and give up about that much. Their schedule is turrible, but they did beat Texas and Hawaii. Yeah, that's not saying much because those teams are turrible too.

I don't want to beat the guy up. I'm pissed that we didn't do better when he was here but his ability as a coach is starting to reveal itself, which makes me even more thankful for 2011 and the small amount of stability he did bring.

Hoke loved Michigan and did a great job recruiting and left a great team for Harbaugh to correctly coach, so for that, I'm not gonna hate on or beat up Hoke.

Just my opinion but whoever was the defensive coordinator at Oregon this year was going to struggle terribly this year. Look at their stats from last year, they have no talent on that side of the ball. Hoke might be a terrible head coach but the jury is still very much out on if he is a decent defensive coordinator. He pretty much said before the season stareted that his defense was awful.

The biggest surprise is how bad oregon's offense is relatitive to past teams. I think they should have stuck with the grad transfer qb instead of going with the freshmen.

I definitely agree with those that said that Hoke did not make the right decision going to Oregon. I do think that he needed to take a step down. I definitely think that being a coordinator was important for him to advance as a coach and prove his worth to be a head coach again. I just feel like it was the wrong job at the wrong time.

Oregon's struggles have been notable. It was too high profile a job with too many cards stacked against whoever would take it. Hoke was naive to take the job. It's disappointing because any advisor of his should have suggested a different route.

For me, I think that Hoke needed to take a Mario Cristobal like step. He would thrive in a good/great program as a position coach learning from a successful coach on how to run a program. Kiffin also comes to mind (Alabama has done a good job of getting assistants, may be that's why they're so successful). I'm not sure here Hoke goes from here, but I hope his next step is more well thought out.

As someone above said he should take a job to learn how a successful team is ran.  The system at Oregon has been one of the most success programs over the last decade and polar opposite of his experience.  This should be a chance for him to expand his experience and knowledge to prepare for his next head coaching job.  The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

I don't understand why everyone always wishes him the best, who cares if he was a nice guy. He's a garbage football coach and has been exposed. He won't ever be head coach again or a coordinator. Time to coach D line at south Alabama state . And fuck Dave Brandon

You don't understand the concept of Michigan football loyalty, is all.  Don't worry about it.  Many people can't understand the whole college football thing, so you aren't alone.

Hoke was a loyal Michigan guy who just got in over his head.  He wishes Michigan well, except when his own team's interests would be adversely affected, and we return that sentiment.  Don't even try to figure that out; you either understand that or you don't.

Brady Hoke is a very complex story.

Was a he a great recruiter for the UM? Yes, no doubt because of his outgoing friendly personality and the fact that he truly believed in the UM.

Has he been a successful head coach? No, his record showed a steady decline and despite good recruitint he was not able to create a strong defense or the type of offense he desired. But was he a great coach in other ways? Yes, read End Zone by John U Bacon and you'll see he was a really caring compassionate guy and helped to prevent several kids from really wrecking their lives. He was basically great with Central Campus, Alumni, Recruits and the problem was on the field. A quick review of the past few years of college football news has many examples of head coaches who only were good on the field and who were disasters elsewhere.

Can he turn it around as a DC? Probably not.  It may be very touchy at Oregon. First I can't believe he can recruit as well there because deep down his heart isn't in as much as it was with the UM. LIkewise Oregon has never had a strong tradition of defense. Unlike the UM, OSU and other places, have they ever stressed recruiting on defense?

I suppose in the end the real unfortunate part of that whole time was both Dave Brandon and Brady Hoke got their deepest desires. We are fortunate how things have turned out so far otherwise we'd be looking at a decade long funk.

Sorry, not referencing that school that likes to refer to itself like the country known as The Gambia. I was just trying to stay grammatical as in "believes in the University of Michigan" and contracts to "... in the UM".

Didn't notice that until just now.

It is a complex picture.  I don't pretend to know. It did seem from the getgo that Oregon was going to be another bad move.

I could have seen him as a successful D-line coach, in a lower tier B1G program, as a long term career, not as a stepping stone to a coordinator or HC position.

Needs to be our DL coach with Mattison retires and recruit like hell. That's where he's best and he would be very happy if he could not let the ego get in the way.

I wouldn't say he comes off as lazy, but I agree that he comes off as stubborn and unintellectual.  He doesn't seem to be a student of the game so much as an old-fashioned "people guy/player's coach."  Modern college football requires intellectual work as well as physical and emotional work, and he just doesn't seem to get that.

I feel bad for Hoke.

Oregon has just been a disaster in general since Chip left. Helfrinch just isn't a good coach, and his NC apperance was all Chiip Kelly and Mariota. He can't develop Quarterbacks. They've recruited multiple fairly highly recruited guys since he's been there (Mahalak, Jonsen & Terry Wilson all were 4 star guys) but theres nothing to show for it. That program is trending down in a major way. I hate to say it because i like Hoke, but it would be for the best to just blow that staff up and start from square one.
