Hoke, Dantonio, HS coaches
There are quotes aplenty in here. Commence reading between the lines:

Comments:
* Goricki has been Sparty-friendly in past articles. Did he ignore RichRod-friendly coaches here? Who knows?
* The first guy quoted is Patrick Threet of St. Clair Shores Lakeview. Steven's brother? :) He doesn't appear to be a RichRod fan. Samples:
"... you can definitely feel there's a leadership vibe there (with Hoke) that will relate to the hard-working people of Michigan ..." (Hopelessly vague ...)
"When you look at Michigan State, they won the state in recruiting and I think it shows." (Whatever ...)
"There was a little bit of arrogance (with Rodriguez)."
* Next up, the somewhat famous John Herrington of Farmington Hills Harrison:
"I thought Rodriguez was a very good coach, an offensive genius. I think it will be different where Brady will recruit Michigan harder and not just go to Florida and California (like Rodriguez) ..." (I find this much more interesting, because Herrington's opinions probably carry some weight. Even he seems to believe that RichRod didn't spend enough time in Michigan.)
* How does everyone feel about Hoke downshifting from a BlackBerry to a "regular" cell phone? Offhand I can't imagine why someone would voluntarily trade down in that area, but maybe that's just me. More important, what does it say about his modernity? Coaches are still allowed to text these days, right? (I'm assuming he wouldn't be enthusiastic about texting with only number keys.) Does he risk being perceived as out-of-touch by players? I could see where some people, like Coach Threet, could find the idea appealing.

Well, he didn't have much of a chance to recruit Florida kids in the 2008 class.
So essentially you're saying that the kids who are freshmen and sophomores haven't contributed much yet, which...like...duh. I don't think the freshmen and sophomores from Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio have done much, either. The jury's still out on what kind of talent Rodriguez actually pulled from Florida, but there are several guys with time left and the potential to make an impact (Marvin Robinson, Ricky Barnum, etc.).

Also, previous poster is assuming that even if it is true that RR gets the left overs in FL, that these left overs aren't better than the shots we have at kids in MI. The losses Michigan suffered over the past three years only gives us so much of a chance at a 5 Star kid from the state who has offers from schools like Alabama.
Finally, you say that only two of RR's Florida recruits have panned out (one of which is possibly the greatest athletic talent the school has ever seen), but how have the top guys from the state done as well? Cissoko? Campbell? That argument is a two way street, and the excitement for RR's pipelines wasn't just directed to FL, but to the entire untapped southern U.S.

Mike Martin, Kenny Demens, Ryan Van Bergen...

Maybe I'm confused. Denard, Tay, and Vincent Smith make two. I sure hope you didn't get your degree from Michigan. It's not like our highest rated recruit from Michigan a five star has done so much. So let me see that means a three star from Florida has contibuted more than a five star from Michigan with both being in the same class. Who did we lose out on that we really wanted that wasn't from Southeastern or Renaissance? One player- Edwin Baker.
Reality is Michigan HS football is weak at best. A RB from our local HS led the state in rushing. He's 5'10" 195 lbs and runs a 4.95. Florida annually has over 300 HS football players get D1 scholarships while Michigan is in the 30-40 range.

...Despite what the media and coaches are saying its not like Hoke is going to focus exclusively on Michigan. Just substitute "California Pipeline" for "Florida Pipeline" with the same level of focus Rich Rod placed on Ohio (where RR got Jibreel Black, Roy Roundtree, and Patrick Omaheh) and you've got Hoke's focus (I believe both Hoke and Rich focused/will focus on Texas but that's a darn hard fortress to get people out of...).

Exactly ONE of you is not very intelligent. As Magnus said, they are all young, so the few guys who have contributed are downright impressive because they are underclassmen.

This has been beat to death. RR recruited Mich the same as Lloyd did. We took the same amount of kids as always. MSU had some high profile pipeline/legacy type guys that made it seem this way with the help of the Freep. Sam Webb has blown this myth to bits about 50 times over the last 3 years.
Stop being a sucker and do some research .

that's not the point. The point is perception of RR vs Hoke from some instate coaches. Now, you could say that some crappy HS coaches opinions don't mean a thing, especially if collectively, we're talking about 1-2 players every few years that are even recruited, but that's another point.

Has UM ever gotten any players from there? I thought it was an MSU pipeline.

It looks like only one, Charles Stewart.

Charles Stewart
Kevin Bryant - WR/Special teams on the 1997 NC team
Joe Ghannam - Punter
You're right though, it is largely a MSU feeder school

Probably because cowhoke's fingers are too fat for those little buttons. But great to see him chasing more homegrown talent because everybody knows that Michigan is where all the great football players come from.

Are you capable of making a single post with personally insulting Hoke?
Now he's not capable of making a single post period.
Thus ends st barth.
Banhammer'd.

st barth
Did he do something new tonight? Because after seemingly getting the "time-out", and the point slam, it seemed like he was posting (though somewhat more tamely) recently, without many points. Did I miss the last straw? (Probably for the best....dude in the Lloyd Diary is annoying me enough as it is...)

Cut and dry: after warnings with pts and personal e-mail, used word that rhymes with Poke-MickTM

Hoke has taken away Dantonio's "brand" of being the honest local hard-working toughness program. Dantonio doesn't have anything else to go on now.
Maybe he'll try running the spread with Florida kids. Anything to get out of Michigan's shadow.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
I agree totally. I think Hoke is exactly what Michigan needs right now. If we would have gotten a national coach without any Michigan ties, it would have been the same thing all over again. Instead of focusing on football, the questions would always be about if the coach understands the rivalries, trying to figure him out, does he understand Michigan traditions...too many things would get sidetracked. It's unfortunate, but that's the way things seem to be with Michigan football. You have to keep things real simple or the media creates a circus and everyone gets confused.

Why are we talking about R.Rodriguez ?... he is history.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:14 AM ^
This was the perceptio problem with Rodriguez. People thought that he didn't try to recruit instate or the Midwest so they just look at other states and assum he went after them. Yes, Florida, we all know that. But California? He had ONE COMMIT from California ever in his tenure - Tate Forcier.
Rodriguez took a little bit to get instate recruiting down, but his 2011 class was actually very similar to a Carr instate class before Rodriguez was fired.
It's all about perception.
Shameless self-promotion, but anyone interested more on the topic, I wrote about it here.
