High 4* TE Theo Johnson leaning Blue?
For those of you who do not follow recruiting, Johnson is the number one player remaining on our board. He is rated 95 on 247 and is their #69 player nationally. He is committing today at 1:45, and it is between us and Penn State. Sam Webb thinks he might be leaning our way but no gut feeling.

Between us and PSU? So he is leaning blue...
Hopefully, it's the correct shade of blue.
December 9th, 2019 at 2:12 PM ^
Unfortunately he got his shades of blue mixed up and went with the pedophile shade.

OOPS wrong highlights... here are real ones
December 9th, 2019 at 11:09 AM ^
Excellent size too. He'd be a great get if he picks Michigan.
December 9th, 2019 at 1:54 PM ^
Well with McKeon leaving we sure need a blocking TE. All can block but he seems to be a WR to me.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:09 AM ^
Concerning to see PSU's recent success with utilizing TE's in the passing game. Was nice to see Eubanks and McKeon get used for some long passing plays against osu when Johnson was in attendance.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:14 AM ^
We have utilized TE's since Butt was here, the only issue has been lack of consistent QB play.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:33 AM ^
That and McKeon dropping a ton of passes last year. Remember the beautiful ball from Shea to him on the sideline against NW? Couldn't have placed it in a better spot and it clanged off his hands.
Good blocker, mediocre pass catcher. This year was better though I'll give him that.

PSU’s leading TE - Freiermuth (botched spelling im sure) announced he is returning for his season; so maybe that will sway Theo to UM.
Depth chart might slightly favor UM with McKeon’s departure. Although, UM does have Eubanks, All and Schoonmaker, so who the hell knows.

I feel like Michigan flipped the script here. Was definitely Penn State’s to lose at one point, but then postponed his earlier commitment date, visited Michigan twice, and his mom has always wanted us. Penn State’s OC is probably leaving - he’s top choice for the Old Dominion job and PSU fans want him gone anyways. Proximity and recency favor us, would be a huge pickup.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:18 AM ^
Wow PSU OC to Old Dominion. I know he's not popular with PSU fans but pretty strange move, no?
December 9th, 2019 at 11:23 AM ^
If he wants to be a head coach, then no, it’s pretty normal. It’s an FBS head coaching job, so, it’s a step up the ladder for his career. If he’s successful there he can go grab some lower-tier P5 job.
December 9th, 2019 at 1:02 PM ^
Ah I see. I just thought PSU OC would eventually get a better HC opportunity. Unless he's killing it I guess that's not true.

Someone needs to hurry up and tell him that Harbaugh is a failure as a coach and will never win a meaningful game, since so many fans seem convinced this is a fact.
December 9th, 2019 at 1:33 PM ^
Out of curiosity, what would you consider Harbaugh's most meaningful win?
December 10th, 2019 at 6:22 AM ^
Depends on how you choose to define meaningful really. At one point Michigan had three consecutive victories over P5 division champs. Is a game only meaningful if it’s against OSU? Is a game only meaningful in hindsight if it affects the conference race? Are rivalry games meaningful? Are ranked matchups meaningful?
i suspect different fans will have different answers to those questions. Blowing out a top 10 ND was pretty meaningful from the perspective of beating a top 10 rival. Not to mention the narrative that the season was taking at that point.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:13 AM ^
primacy and recency bias says he goes blue - his first and last visits were with us, with others sandwiched in between. maybe magnus can share his thoughts.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:15 AM ^
See what DrMantisToboggan said above. Those are pretty much my thoughts.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:31 AM ^
So... head coach of Old Dominion? Must be a real student of the game.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:51 AM ^
At presser being introduced....
"This is Old Dominion Fergodsakes"
December 9th, 2019 at 11:40 AM ^
One of your alias accounts?
December 9th, 2019 at 11:14 AM ^
He's a huge project. Good athlete, but he has a LONG way to go, whether he ends up at UM or PSU (or anywhere else).
December 9th, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
That makes sense. He looks like such a physical freak I was wondering why he wasn't a surefire 5 star.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
I'm confused, how does someone who is a project get rated so highly???
December 9th, 2019 at 12:30 PM ^
Zach Harrison was a project’s project 5 Star according to this blog etc and he was getting playtime for OSU this year. Sometimes the rating companies are just wrong.
December 9th, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
Except Harrison looked exactly like that on the field this year - a kid who is freakishly big and fast but is still figuring out what to do on a football field.
When you have the starters that OSU does you can really afford to get your young talent in and allow them to learn by making mistakes.
December 9th, 2019 at 12:40 PM ^
Not all guys develop at the same rate. If you think about offensive linemen and want them all to be college-ready, then only the 6'5", 300-pounders would be highly rated - even though we know people like Taylor Lewan exist, who was like 240 pounds as a senior. A lot of athletic defensive ends are 205-210 pounds coming out of high school.
Johnson might get there, but he's playing Canadian high school football. It's a much different sport.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:15 AM ^
Georgia insider, Rusty, still thinks they are very much in it.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:24 AM ^
I’ll believe this when the children’s choir comes out at his announcement.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:26 AM ^
Well, hopefully they won't 'Isiah Wilson' this guy, too...
December 9th, 2019 at 11:41 AM ^
It has been discussed many times by Sam Webb that distance was a factor for his family and PSU might have been about as far as they were willing to go. Georgia seems very unlikely for that reason.
December 9th, 2019 at 12:37 PM ^
UGA, Bama, OSU, Clemson, SEC are always "in it"
We nearly lost Gary and Dax after they were heavy leans and committed.
DeShawn Hand, LaQuon Treadwell, Isiah Wilson, etc, etc
UM is very often the bridesmaid, the school the commit would have chosen if not for other benefits.
December 9th, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
There are lots of always-a-bridesmaid-never-a-bride situations in college football. Kids get 40-50 offers and take 5 official visits (plus a bunch of unofficials). If you got a visit, the fans of that school will always think you were *this* close.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
BPONE and all that, but I'll be very pleasantly surprised if he chooses UM over PSU.
December 9th, 2019 at 1:22 PM ^
Can we have a thread without some "dickhead" thinking he's so brilliant referring to "BPONE" !
December 9th, 2019 at 1:25 PM ^
Why is dickhead in quotes?
December 9th, 2019 at 11:19 AM ^
Yes I can confirm with 100% certainty that he is leaning blue
December 9th, 2019 at 11:26 AM ^
Do you know what number he'll wear? I want to get my jersey order in.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:42 AM ^
I don't even know which team he'll play for
December 9th, 2019 at 11:30 AM ^
If he truly is high, that's legal here now. Still illegal in PA.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:46 AM ^
Would be huge. I think he's comparable to Devin Asiasi.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:55 AM ^
What? In what way?
December 9th, 2019 at 12:02 PM ^
They're both TE's....?
December 9th, 2019 at 12:13 PM ^
I guess in how I think a polished version of each would look like. I expect them to put more weight on him and when he does he should be a killer blocker once hes taught technique.
I could be wrong and they see him more as gentry.
December 9th, 2019 at 12:19 PM ^
They both like tacos
December 9th, 2019 at 1:26 PM ^
If RR was still our coach he would 100% be committing.
December 9th, 2019 at 11:51 AM ^
Can he play defensive tackle? No, okay moving on.
December 9th, 2019 at 12:06 PM ^
Please be true please be true
December 9th, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
Every post I read in the thread about this yesterday seemed to think that he was a Penn State lock...
December 9th, 2019 at 12:52 PM ^
I would argue that Stroud is #1 remaining on the board, maybe this commitment will help.
