they could start selling UM apparel right away.  Adidas' license for things like t-shirts, sweatshirts and the like is not exclusive and there is stuff from a variety of manufacturers on sale at the Mden right now.  The exclusive license is for team apparel/uniforms and for replica competition gear (jerseys and other "gameday" apparel).

Who knows whether they would start right away or not.

So Jim Hackett landed Harbaugh and Nike in about 6 months and now is probably going to hand the job over.   Talk about leaving on a high note!

Jim Hackett in less then a year has done more for this program then Brandon ever did.

LANDED Nike?  I mean, define landed.  I'm pretty sure that any AD could have said, "Hey, Nike... can we play with you?"  We weren't trying to convince them that we were worthy of their brand or anything.

There was close to $5M difference between what Adidas was playing U of M and Nike higest contract at FSU.   So I assume Hackett didn't leave that much money on the table to sign with Nike.    So yes, he landed Nike and probably got them to pay the highest university contract in the country.

Some of us don't care all that much, but are entertained by the comments (the popcorn crowd).  I'm with True Blue Grit, FTR.  I think that Adidas did a poor job during its tenure with the team, but Nike had some wretched designs for other teams over the same years.

I've said it before - the amount of control the Athletic Department exerts over design and quality is much more important to me than whose label adorns the uniforms.  (And I hope the Athletic Department used getting top dollar as its number one and two criteria in deciding between Adidas, Nike and UA.)  That's what I care about.

Carry on.

I'm kinda sad though. It will make zero difference to me in buying apparel, and I've seen enough crappy Nike jerseys to think it will make a difference in how the team looks. But I was sorta hoping we re-upped with Adidas so I could bath in schadenfreude during the meltdown of the Nikebots on the board.
