Harbaugh "rooting for Ohio State" in National Championship game

Submitted by Shaun on

Eisen asks Harbaugh if he should root for B1G/Ohio State on Monday: "I'm going to be rooting for Ohio State," Harbaugh says

Harbaugh says for Big Ten football, midwest football, "I think it's just fabulous a team in our conference is playing in that game."

Harbaugh is just killing them with kindness. Buttering them up. Whispering sweet nothings. Harbaugh is telling OSU how great they are and how much he wants them to do so well in the Championship game. And say he'll be cheering for them to play great and win the game. All the while planning and plotting how to ruthlessly dismantle them in next year's game.

what he's doing. "What is your deal," after all. I bet he'll be going for 2 while ahead of OSU 50-14, only this time, the conversion will work. And soon thereafter he'll be lobbying for a rule change to allow a slightly harder 3-point conversion.

At this point in time, he's trying to keep things civil between him and osu.  When The Game is ready to heat up, he'll change his tune I'm sure.  Right now, as fans and supporters of Michigan, I hope Oregon thrashes them so that the benefit of osu being in the NCG is minimized.  osu is going to be osu to recruits, but winning the NC is something I'd rather not see.  Their fanbase is insufferable enough already.

Brian, time to fire up SEARCHBITS! We need a new head coach.

Just kidding, of course. Personally, I won't be rooting for OSU in the NC game. I did root for them in the Sugar Bowl, mostly because I wanted to see the SEC go down.

I want to see the B1G do well to uphold (restore?) the conference's reputation. But I don't want OSU to add to their collection of National Championships. Thanks to the new playoff format, that means we can root for OSU to win against 'Bama and then lose to Oregon. B1G has already had a very good bowl season, SEC is shut-the-hell-upped, yet OSU need not win a NC.

Thank you college football playoffs!

This is so much better than the fake rivarly-drumming talk that Urban does and all the leaving out M's and such, and that Hoke kinda did too with calling them Ohio.

The rivalry doesn't need that BS. It needs two great teams playing against each other for high stakes.

Jim's gonna bring it to them on the field, not in the media.

I ain't even mad.  No matter how much you think you have emotionally invested in the OSU rivalry; Coach H has more.  He's played in the game.  He wants to beat them more than any of us next year.  The difference is he's about to put thousands of hours of work into it.

If he think's it's ok to root for them, so be it.  I won't be, however.

Stated this in the Eisen thread, it's a wise choice from his perspective. When you're trying to catch up to your rivals, don't give them bulletin board material along the way.

Ohio State winning is better for Michigan.  It will make our vicotory next year over them even better and improve the perception of the Big Ten and therefore the perception of Michigan and the strength of their schedule and therefore improves the chances they get selected by the committee to be in the playoff.

GOOD!

A NC win for a B1G is good for the conference.  Plus it would make for a win next fall over the "defending national champions."

Leave all the petty and childish "I want them to lose no matter what" BS to MSU fans.

Politely disagree ... if Rich Rod had voiced an anti-B1G sentiment people would have been screaming from the rooftops.

Ditto Hoke, but I couldn't see him going counter to home conference.  Silence, perhaps, or pro-B1G.  But never anti-B1G.

I have no problem with Harbaugh saying this.  It shows (a) political savvy, and (b) confidence.

That said, *I* am rooting for a certain aquatic fowl to win ... :-)

Let's not forget that as the former head coach of Stanford, there's probably no love lost for Oregon.  I mean if he's got to pick the lesser of two evils, picking in the interests of your conference makes sense if only it could someday benefit you.

Of course we should all be rooting for OSU. A win would be great for the Conference, a boom for recruiting and national respectability. Rooting for OSU under these circumstances is a no brainer.

is this a boom in recruiting for OSU and Michigan?  The whole conference?  Is the positive recuiting impact to the conference going to be positive enough for Michigan to make it acceptable for me to root for OSU?

I don't think anybody really has these answers.

Recuits going to be like, Michigan might win a NC soon with Harbaugh.  OSU did win one and Urban has 2 others.

They already have enough positive momentum.  Maybe they need lose.  Let Michigan do the Championship winning for the good of the conferance.

I still don't know what to do!!  Help!!

I can go either way on this arguement.  Good for B1G, yes.  Good for OSU, yes, but I do not want anything good for OSU.  I will continue to monitor this thread to observe compelling arguemnts to tilt me one way or the other.

Thanks,
