Harbaugh is really helping us out, John that is

Submitted by iawolve on

Not sure what the rest of you think about this, but I feel John Harbaugh has really gone out of his way for a school he only has a tangential relationship with (he played at not that Miami in college). First, he enabled/supported the courtship of his DC and then publicly came out with very positive quotes about Greg going back to coach at Michigan. In the aggressive NFL coaching ranks, he owes us nothing nor does he have to add the extra bit of good PR. Actually, he could have even been a detriment to the process if he so chose. However, he is a Brady backer and I must say this halo effect is starting to work. Positive news regarding the program is at a premium right now in this early transition stage and to wrap up this recruiting class. I must admit I am more of a fan of John than I was before (just can't like the Ravens though).

You must be especially pleased with Donovan Warren these days. :-)

I guess I'm a Green Bay fan, but they're doing well in the playoffs, so it's easy for me to say that.  What I really love is seeing famous alums of schools I despise falling flat on their faces in the pros.

Artie was getting bled dry by that crappy stadium lease in Cleveland, especially after the Indians left.  Baltimore would help him regain his money, and the fact that he got out of the losing atmosphere of that city helped him get a Super Bowl.

The fans were still filling that stadium up every Sunday to watch the team play.  Of course, the Curse of Cleveland claimed another great team, so whatever.  The management has been incompetent for decades too.  I can't believe they fired Mangini after just 3 years.  Where did we see that before?  Hmm...

If you're interested in a MGoBlog-level treatment of the Browns, clevelandfrowns.com is a really good resource.

So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly... Hills, that is.

It was pretty cool to hear how he was backing us like that, it seems like we'd been lacking a lot of that positivity for a while. Or we just couldn't hear it over all the grumbling.

He did go to Pioneer. He was several hundred feet from nearly being a Michigan man by association. It almost counts.

Seriously though, I think it's very classy of him to be encouraging like this and not  speak ill of his now former DC. Thanks, John.

Harbs = good people.

OLD SCHOOL football coach. Both Harbaugh boys are a carbon copy of their Dad, whom I've had the honor of having an extended conversation with about Michigan football. (Jack attended pretty much every Ravens game this season. Wonder where he's going to spend the bulk of his time next year?)

...with Michigan is a lot less tangential than you indicate. As noted above, he's a Pioneer grad because his father Jack is from the Bo coaching tree. Since both Hoke and Mattison were assistants to the elder Harbaugh at WMU, John's loyalties go well beyond those of an NFL HC to a coordinator.

Speaking of tangents, I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that when Jim/Bo informed Brandon that he would pursue an NFL HC position and not be a candidate for the Michigan job, he also put in a strong recommendation for Hoke. Again, the Jack Harbaugh - Hoke relationship plus Jim/Bo's knowledge of Hoke's work at SDSU plus Jim/Bo's probable desire to help Michigan return to its former self point there.
