Well maybe. But was all saw Peters last year. What we've seen of McCaffrey already looks better than what we saw of Peters. If you're building for the future you should probably stay with McCaffrey. And I like Brandon Peters. I think he should graduate early and grad transfer in January. I will watch his career where ever he ends up.

I hope he ends up with Paul Chryst at Wisconsin.

He was promoted to #2 when Peters got hurt and I heard multiple rumblings that Peters was sick in the week leading up to the game.  Haven't seen the Harbaugh presser transcript yet, maybe it is more clear than the one statement.  I'd say if Dylan comes in as #2 against SMU it's probably a solid bet he's #2 for the rest of the year.

If he was #2 week 1 because of an injury to Peters that week, and kept the spot this week due to a good week of practice, wouldn't that imply that you, er Mineral King, were wrong in stating that he was #2 during camp/heading into the season?

Who could Harbaugh have been gaming and to what possible benefit?

I believe the most common sense answer is that Peters was #2 in camp and got hurt. McCaffrey came in, looked good and when Peters got sick McCaffrey continued to look good and is now the #2 until such time that Peters can overtake him.

No need to have a tinfoil hat over the backup qb situation.

This. Also we don't know if Dmac (DCaf sounds dumb) was moved up to #2 because Peters fell behind due to injury. When the team is installing a game plan, not having reps would put Peters at a significant disadvantage in preparation. Given that there does not seem to be a huge edge between the two right now I would think that any slight advantage could change who is #2 on the depth chart.

As for everyone writing off Peters at the moment, Dylan has not shown that he is the surefire successor to Patterson. I think he does end up starting over Peters, but Peters can win that job if he works hard. The length of the battle for the #2 spot will be determined by the competitive fire that Dylan and Brandon show in addition to their talent.
