Harbaugh: Considers Walker starter

First creation of content go easy

Per Angelique Chengelis Jim Harbaugh considers Walker a starter after two practices. That would seemingly be a large development for the defense if true.

Dont beat yourself up too bad on the inability to embed a tweet.  Take a look at the front page post that just went up and you'll notice they fucked it up too.  Hell, look at MY post from yesterday on Taylor Lewan getting cut and you'll notice I wasnt able to pull it off either.

For whatever reason embedding tweets in an orignal thread is the closest thing to impossible around here I know of for ALL of us.

I've never had a problem with it, which to clarify is nothing other than anecdotal.

That said, have you tried using the oembed tag in the OP?  I know there are alternate ways to embed a tweet, but my preferred method is the very simple oembed tag up front and / oembed on the back.

Like Billy D and Colt 45...

Until I see evidence otherwise, this says more about our lack of options behind Will Johnson than it does about Walker's CB ability

Of course, I said the same thing about Sainristil

What are the chances of hitting that jackpot in consecutive years?

Sainristil was recruited as a DB as well

He's different inasmuch as his body type is way different, and he's moving way earlier in his career.

Hope he sticks at one position. We're rather thin at both WR and CB right now, it'd be great to have a stud CB alongside Johnson, and hopefully Walker will be that

m_go_T , my comment was not "smug" - nor intended to be negative in any way against the OP or other commenters.

My perspective is - the coaching staff did a very good job with Sainristil.  And, though I didn't note in this comment - Sainristil's play in Columbus was, IMO, the play of the game.

I trust the staff.   They have done a very good job of putting players on the roster in a position to excel.   And, if they have a feeling that Walker is "ready" for a position - their sense is greater than mine.   Sainristil moving to D is an example of the staff's knowledge / expertise.

I'm supportive of every player, in every sport - and, my only wish is - that every player excel and achieve their potential.  BTW, I hope that all students do the same - excel and realize their potential.

The BPONE is strong with this one.

On a serious note, I understand your point. In general, position changes do not work out more than they do. On the other hand, this program, and its coaching staff, have established a recent track record of decently successful position switches.

I don't think we need a "jackpot." We're returning 81% of our production, per Bill Connelly. We need a third CB in addition to our two All-Conference/possibly All-American level returning starters in Sainristil and Will Johnson. We need plausible depth as well for the inevitable injuries that occur. It's not enough for Walker to be a solid starter. We need others to step up for 10-20 snaps per game. Our early-season fluff schedule hopefully will allow us to acquire much needed secondary depth experience.

To each their own, but I'm done with BPONE for the foreseeable future. The program has earned my trust (until the CFP begins). I'm want to enjoy this ride because it won't last forever.

BPONE would be saying our secondary sucks and will be shredded. It won't be, 4 of our 5 starters are excellent players. There's only our 2nd outside CB in question

This is just pragmatism. Our outside CB depth is very thin, and outside of Johnson, nobody with starter snaps on the roster. Mostly young guys and people for which it's getting late fast

Walker has tremendous potential based on his athleticism and size. I hope he sticks at CB and I think he could be a really good one.

I just think that the fact that 2 practices into spring, if there's no better option on the roster than moving him over from WR says more *at this moment* about CB depth than it does how good Walker is or will be

And forgotten about for some reason is Rod Moore and how good he actually is. He is probably one of the best safeties in the conference. Sees the field real well and is a definite plus as a tackler on the back end. Paige’s development also is key as he surpassed a guy in Moten who had his flaws, but was a starter for large portions of the last two B1G winning defenses. Johnson, Mikey, Moore, and Paige is a hell of a 4 outta 5 as we head into the Spring.

I would say the most important spot this off-season on D is finding an edge to replace Morris; more than finding a CB2 which we have options at.

this says more about our lack of options behind Will Johnson than it does about Walker's CB ability

If this were the case, I don't think he'd be trumpeting Walker as a starter - not this soon.   He'd just say something like "There's a lot of competition at the position."

Harbaugh is not one to hype, specifically this early in the practice cycle and in general for younger players.

There’s a chance he’s trying to help build walkers confidence and focus with the positivity, but given Harbaugh’s history of complimentary commentary translating to on field success, I’m guessing Walker is showing out really well rn

This either means one of two things:

1) The rest of our CBs suck

2) The Amorion Walker hype is real and we will have 2 starting CBs 6'2" or taller

I think I might actually lean towards #2 because Jim usually isn't this open about naming starters this early in spring so Walker must really be impressive

James Joseph doesn't typically go slinging this sort of praise around especially day two of spring ball! I believe that may be the case here that we are looking at two stud CB's 6'2 or taller. Furthermore Turner was a dude on this D and all his buddies returned for their last years and to chase down that natty this may speak to why he opted to try the league as well!

I have to agree with your #2, this is pretty odd for Jim unless it's obvious that they've got something good here. You would think that otherwise he would just say his usual yeah we have a good competition going and guys are playing well, we will see where things stand after spring and fall camp. I'm inclined to trust the defensive coaches after the magic they pulled off with Sainristil

Well this discussion is about the second outside CB spot, where Walker will seemingly be competing. Sainristil is the starting nickel and no one can challenge him for that spot this season. But Sainristil won’t be playing much outside corner. And yes I’m pretty sure Michigan has been running 5 DBs (2 outside, 1 nickel, 2 safeties) on a majority of defensive plays.
