Harbaugh on Brown

Submitted by massblue on

Sorry for the FP link, but this is really worth it.  Here are a few money quotes from Harbaugh about Brown

“You could tell a lot from just looking at the Internet, seeing the track record and the facts,” said Harbaugh, noting that Brown was the only person offered the job. “He’s got a proven track record.”

I like this one in particular

“He’ll get right there in the action and I think that’s what his players appreciate about him the most,” he said. “He puts the players in positions to be successful, has answers for all those things. I was really looking for someone to be a real teacher, to teach the fundamentals, teach the techniques, the pursuit angles, the tackling. With a real bonus, does it all with an ultra-aggressive defensive philosophy.”

Very happy Coach Harbaugh got his first choice and confirmed Coach Brown was his first choice. That alone says and means a lot.  Coach Harbaugh also had more time to figure out who he wanted for our next DC than he did last year.  There is quite a bit to look forward to next season, but really looking forward to the bowl game and NSD in the meantime.  Go Blue.

Also I find it fascinating Jim will hire a guy only talking over the phone.  In this day and age and w/ how  you will be in the trenches with the guy day in day out for so many hours a day you'd think he'd at least want to look into a guy's eyes as you interview.  But Sunday was the 1st time they met face to face...and Zordich was hired same way.

It does sound like their personalities will mesh - he sounds like an older Durkin in intensity level.

Hi, I'm Wilford Brimley and I have diabetes. It hurts me to pee and it causes me to be short with my family. I can't sleep at night. The other day I stubbed my toe and took it out on the dog. And two weeks ago I ran out of vanilla ice cream and struck my wife. Then I find out my wife has been dead for six years. Who the hell did I hit?

This is exactly how Jim found and hired Scott Shafer as his DC at Stanford. He saw the Shafer had great stats one season at Western Michigan and offered him he job based on that. No prior connection at all. It looks like Brown was hired the same way.

Ultra-Aggressive. That's all I wanted for the next DC. Create havoc in the back field, this is going to be a fun defense to watch. Go BLUE!
