http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-mccain-cable-20130509,0,2224732.story John McCain is introducing a bill to allow consumers to get cable channels a la carte.  I've been openly wondering what would happen if something like this happens for a while now, mostly to add more evidence to the stupid decision to take Rutgers.  I know there will be plenty of lobbying and the media corporations will likely stop it from passing, but very interesting nonetheless.  If there's ONE DAMN THING the government NEEDS TO PROTECT for THE AMERICAN PEOPLE... it ISN'T EDUCATION, HEALTHCARE, OR CIVIL RIGHTS... we as AMERICANS DESERVE GREAT CABLE TELEVISION.  That concern tops all for a large percent of Americans.  Discuss.

tonight...... very surprisingly, I am going to watch some NBA.  The Warriors have me intrigued and I can also say that I want to see a bench clearing brawl in Chicago.  This may be the first time since like 2007 that the NBA is anything close to appointment viewing for me.  These playoffs haven't been that bad.

I really dislike the nba but I love me some Stephen curry. Watched him and followed him when he was at Davidson College (yes I knew about the kid before the tournament). The guy is crazy good when he's on. Even if he isn't "in the zone" he still gets his share.

nothing too major this weekend.  treating my wife to a pro massage for mothers day and cleaning the house while she's at the massage as her present, hopefully watching a movie or two, and working on content for my blog. Also decompressing after a couple days staying home taking care of a sick toddler. I am definitely not stay at home dad material, so it hasn't been a fun week.

As to weekend drinking: now that summer is back soon, so are the summer brews, so I'll be picking up a six pack of Two Brothers' Dog Days, probably my #1 favorite summer ale. I can't recommend that beer enough.

Have a great weekend everyone!

don't think I have ever negged anybody.  I just don't see the point.  The worst is when you are kind of debating something with somebody and they neg your post and then respond to it.  Why the neg?

Well, at the moment, I am drinking the substance which passes for coffee here - whoever brews it is not a fan of strong coffee, so it has no effect on me sadly.

As for the weekend, cooler weather or not, this is the weekend that the sizeable pile of wood chips, which shall be delivered literally any time now and much to my wife's chagrin, will be distributed around the yard. The only thing right now which makes that problematic is that I found out my wheelbarrow had a flat tire last night, so I shall be repairing that when I get home.

We shall also hold the semi-finals of reseeding entire sections of the backyard. I finally distributed the last of the mulch pile, which sat under a tarp for a few years and killed a about a 50 sq. ft. portion of the yard near the fence that separates us from the woods. Last summer baked that pile rather nicely. My wife wants to have the kids' birthday party at the house this year, so I was given the directive in April to make the backyard not look like the ongoing project that it is.

Good luck with the never ending mulch!  I do all the gardening, and mulching is by far my least favorite.  (I make the husband do a lot because he is much faster than I)  Question- where does all the mulch go?  Just distributed 16 yards last spring and I swear it could use it again!

We have the problem of living near a marsh as well as in an area with poor drainage, so unfortunately, so it makes the situation with mulching and composting interesting. We almost have to do this every year because we have a problem with certain pervasive weeds which creep in from the marsh from time to time, and putting a layer down helps to mitigate them for a while anyway. We also can't put too much down anywhere either because we need water to evaporate fairly quickly (if possible) where we are or else it will start collecting in spots, and this of course brings on the mosquitoes.

As it is, we turned our outside sump pump line into an irrigation system for the beds nearest the house (which are much drier) because during and after rains, we see so much water. I sometimes feel like leaving notes on do-it-yourself land reclamation for the the next house of my house.

I feel your pain.  We bought a foreclosure in Oct. 2012, so we spent the winter inside and "neglecting" the yard.

Found out that we should have thrown down mulch/topsoil/seed mix in the winter and let it go dormant and then pick it back up in the spring.  So right now I'm just trying to kill all the crabgrass/chickweed that is what currently passes for "grass" in my yard and planning on doing a major re-seeding this fall.

It wouldn't be so bad if I had some Michigan black dirt, rather than this southern red clay that tracks everywhere.

The raking and seeding was pretty brutal in the portions of the yard done so far. A major portion of that is that my part of Romulus (not sure if this is the case elsewhere in the city) has the clay literally right at the surface, it seems. When it has been dry like the past several days, raking that soil is sort of like raking bare rock after the first inch or so.

This also contributes to the drainage problem, of course, so there are strategic dry wells in the yard to help with that. I probably nearly died twice trying to dig and fill them myself several years ago, but they work.

here in Mid-Michigan.   Baseball tournament for the 12 year old this weekend, softball scrimmage for the middle child, hopefully a little wine and Tigers and Red Wings somewhere in there too.  Making husband cook dinner on Sunday for sure!  Happy Friday, Michigan fans!

Looks like we are finally going to see the sun during the weekend which is good as we are taking the 6 month old puppy on a charity 2k Dog walk for the local humane society tomorrow.

I've already mowed the lawn for this week and I guess I really should get started on writing my script for the wedding ceremony I am officiating for my sister in law and her fiance.  That said, I feel I should be drinking wine out of a chalice/goblet while I am contemplating the meaning of love/happiness/marriage.

That dude always had great Posbangs. Did he go to Boliva er something??

Anyways, no plans for the weekend. Gave up smoking last Saturday, and I am trying to learn how to drink without smoking cigarettes. So I will most likely be practicing that with some bud lights.

if by that you mean Chopblock, who usually started the Friday posbang threads, he posted in awhile back that it'd be his last for awhile as he was going to hike the Appalachian Trail this summer (for real, not a euphemism) so he was going to be off the site until the fall football season by and large.

I don't plan on doing any drinking this weekend, but I will be watching the Wings tonight and the Tigers throughout the weekend. Also, I'm planning on hiking around Vedauwoo on Sunday and, at some point this weekend, starting my first attempt at reading Gravity's Rainbow.
