Gregg Henson: QB Josh Rosen, Rivals #1 Overall, to M?
In his latest post, Henson says that QB Josh Rosen, Rivals' #1 overall recruit for 2015, will decommit from UCLA and join Michigan if Harbaugh is hired:
I got another interesting text from a good source that Josh Rosen “is in” if Jim is indeed named the next Head Coach at Michigan. Rosen is a California kid who is committed to UCLA, but sources say he will more than likely be a Wolverine once the search is resolved next week. That is a bit of a surprise to me as Michigan already has a nice prospect in the class, Alex Malzone from Birmingham Brother Rice. I’ll admit, I know next to nothing about recruits, I’m just passing it along from a solid source.
B/R: Which NFL QB do you try to watch the most on a weekly basis?
JR: Year in, year out, Peyton Manning above all else, but I'm a huge Andrew Luck fan as of recently. I love what he did at Stanford, and I think he should get much more recognition than he already does for flipping a team that lost many of their best Pro Bowl players. He flipped a team from a 2-14 record to a wining playoff team and actually won a playoff game. But year in, year out, probably Manning because he's the best at what he does. Technique, his mind, feet, everything—hands-down he's the best.
UPDATE: Comrade Dubs, in the comments, notes the following tweet indicating that Rosen is denying any interest in decommitting from UCLA:
After talking directly to Josh Rosen yesterday he said the death penalty at UCLA might make him rethink his commitment, that's it.

Unprecedented,what is happening.

Gregg Henson keep batting a thousand please!

I'm actually laughing out loud about Henson posting that Josh Rosen will flip to Michigan - not the derisive kind, the giddy kind.
Still, the delicious irony of us liberal mgousers embarrasedly unfollowing Henson following Ferguson and now feverishly re-following him because we like his football news is God Damn near to a plot from The Good Wife!
December 28th, 2014 at 12:16 AM ^
In addition to everything else that seems to be going on at the moment, suddenly attracting the nation's #1 QB recruit by virtue of Harbaugh coming to Ann Arbor (back to Ann Arbor, mind you) would probably start a trend that would leave much of the board - to paraphrase my lovely wife - "all out of evens". I love the idea.

Please stay perfect Henson

refuted this in an earlier post. Wasn't he enrolling early at UCLA?
December 28th, 2014 at 12:44 AM ^
Someone else said UCLA runs on a quarter system so he wouldn't be able to enroll before March.
I have no idea if this is true but it was mentioned in the first Rosen thread.
December 28th, 2014 at 12:48 AM ^
I don't know anything about this situation but UCLA starts a new quarter 1/5 and it looks like add/drop ends 1/16* and then again in March with the dates 3/25 and 4/10.
*Remember Gardner enrolled on the last day of add/drop because Inkster took forever to approve his early graduation.

Rosen said that he's 99.9999999% sure he'll stick with UCLA. That was told to Brandon Brown, now at The Wolverine.

and Clark both come Michigan can be a serious contender. Maybe even next year. Harbaugh getting his hands on a 5* QB has Andrew Luck written all over it.

Dude's enrolling early

He starts classes at UCLA in a matter of days.
December 28th, 2014 at 12:33 AM ^
Rosen can still change his mind. There are no LOI's for early football enrollees. He is not technically committed to UCLA until he attends class.
December 28th, 2014 at 12:50 AM ^
It's currently a recruiting dead period. He'd have to be damn sure he 1) still has an offer (he does) and 2) wants to play for a guy he has not established a previous relationship with. It just seems like such a massive long shot at this point, but then again, so did Harbaugh to Michigan a couple months ago. Miracles can come true.
December 28th, 2014 at 12:57 AM ^
Just an FYI phone calls and other electronic communication is allowed during a dead period.
What is a dead period?
During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.

Thanks for that. I never knew staff could talk over the phone during this time. Gotta say I'm much more hopeful now. There's definitely shorter odds than I thought.
December 28th, 2014 at 1:08 AM ^
Still extremely unlikely, but since he has visited campus already I think there is a chance.
December 28th, 2014 at 1:27 AM ^
Unlikely? Dude, Henson said it and what Henson says is gold. We all know this now!

December 28th, 2014 at 12:21 AM ^
but if this is true, he may have exceeded his own expectations already.
December 28th, 2014 at 12:21 AM ^
1. Rosen is enrolling on either the 5th or 6th
2. He's neighbors with Jim Mora
3. He's the Malzone of UCLA's class
4. He has not talked to Harbaugh yet
5. Most damning, he most certainly does not want to play in the cold
Things we have going for us
1. He visited for a lengthy visit, so he has experience with the school.
2. Highly academic kid. Closest thing to Andrew Luck in terms of background and skill set. Michigan I hear is a pretty good school
3. Harbaugh
4. Harbaugh
5. HARBAUGH

Rosen is soft. Do not want.

"2. He's neighbors with Jim Mora"
That would make a decommit pret-tay awkward.

The title of the article linked in the OP begins: "No. 1 Prep QB is Jewish Kid on Catholic Team" (teammate says he's very respectful at mass). And his mother is a Quaker.
December 28th, 2014 at 2:33 AM ^
Notre Dame had a Jewish Quarterback recruit named Gus Ornstein. I remember pretty well because my great uncle, who was a 4 sport athlete at Notre Dame back in the 1940's along with being a staunch Irish Catholic, said "If y'all are good enough for Notre Dame, you're good enough for me".
