I felt the same way for a long while but looking back on things, and perhaps realizing that working with Harbaugh might not be a bowl of cherries, it is understandable why someone might leave.  Just wish he had picked someone other than Ohio State.

I used to be in advertising and I worked with a lot of musicians on tracks for commercials. Skunk Baxter was one of those people. When he walked into the studio (back in the 90's), it was like he was coming in from 1973. Long hair in a ponytail, ankle boots with stacked heels, bell bottoms, and the 'stache. Seemed like a good guy.

Perhaps before I retire I'll switch jobs to go teach my last couple years at the high school down the street that "wins things" a lot but also everyone in the area acknowledges is absolutely the worst.

His final legacy: being a coach on a defense that was so poorly conceived that you ended up with the best wideout in football being covered by a linebacker named "Tuf."

Hope it was worth it ending up with your last stop being "I coached a defense that squandered a ton of talent because our schemes were so pathetic and basic that a Madden obsessed child could solve them."

that's actually not what happened at all, but yea.

the defense this year didn't have the secondary talent necessary to run the 1 high base cover 1 that day wanted to run. why didn't osu have the secondary talent necessary? 3/4 of the starters from last year are starting in the nfl this year. the other one (wade) had to switch positions to play something he's not good at out of team necessity. the starter replacing wade at slot corner was kicked off the team before the season started. the starter opposite wade at outside corner was hurt in game 2. so osu ran a ton of 1 high base cover 3 all year, which alabama (and penn state, and indiana) ate for lunch. that was the option osu specifically picked, gambling on making alabama (and others) take 10-15 plays to get in the red-zone and holding from there. as you saw, osu forced several red-zone 3rd (and 4th) downs, which alabama converted anyway, because, turns out, they're really good. osu's other alternative was play 1 high cover 1 while letting alabama score on 70 yard pass plays because osu didn't have anyone capable of playing man outside at a high level.

i do agree with you that osu didn't play the right scheme this year for the talent on hand, but as you know, they had to replace the dc, were down two starters to injury, and covid destroyed any attempt at a normal spring and fall install, and prevented osu from practicing most of the back half of the season. osu was still tinkering with its starters during the northwestern game!
