I'm 12 minutes away from getting out of work and I have the next 2 days off so yep I'm stoked.

I took the day off to get a new water heater installed. It's one of those fancy new hybrid electric heaters that features a heat pump. Supposed to cut energy usage by ~70%, and from what everyone* says might knock ~$100-140 off my electric bill each month. Plus it'll be a gorgeous day that I can spend outside! I'll also find some time to catch up on the various front page stuff I haven't read yet - good times all around!

A geothermal system? I have has the pleasure of designing electric services to a fair number of those over the years, including the one at Barton Hills Country Club (well, I had a hand in that one anyway). Very cool, and yes, they are quite economical after the initial outlay.

I've had those in a couple of overseas locations I've lived in and the hype is real.
Not only will you save on electricity but your water bill too -- hot water comes out almost instantly so you don't have to run the faucet to get the water to change from cold to hot.
So why all the hype and not the widespread adoption? I've been told (*plumbing marketing types) such units are not as durable as the tank water heaters we are accustomed to here.
