Friday night drunking thread
Hopefully most of us are getting close to being able to wind down for the holidays (I'm not as close as I'd like to be, but c'est la vie). It's still Friday, time to unwind from a crazy week. Starting off with a Kangaroo (vodka-based martini with orange bitters and lemon twist), then who knows.
Here's to enjoying the evening. What are you having?

Raising Canes Chicken fingers with an Arnold Palmer

+1 for cramhole. Oh yeah!
Got some Founders Mosaic Promise. Nice cans but not my cup of tea. Too fruity or weird-hoppy. I'll finish the 15-pk but I gave it shot.

Some Great Lakes Xmas Ale and a little Rhinegeist Cloud Harvest

Just how long a head start did you get before posting, OP?
December 18th, 2020 at 6:21 PM ^
;)
The beauty of the Zoom call happy hour is that you don't need to figure out how to get home.
December 18th, 2020 at 11:20 PM ^
I don’t drink while wfh anymore. Did that once and I’m a pretty honest guy, but I found myself being real honest, too honest when asked how I felt about things at work.

Tea.
Doing the water wagon thing these days.

No fear of rusting out?
They must have built you of stainless steel or had you treated by Rusty Jones.

2020 edition of George T. Stagg. Really love this pour.
December 18th, 2020 at 7:30 PM ^
Awesome, I am so jealous ?!!!
Local party store had a holiday bourbon release yesterday. People camped out the night before to get in line for two bottles per person. Mostly allocated Buffalo Trace juice like what you have. Cheers ?.
December 18th, 2020 at 9:04 PM ^
What was this 'nectar' priced at, neighbor?
December 18th, 2020 at 9:19 PM ^
Did you go and get anything?
December 18th, 2020 at 9:44 PM ^
I'm wondering the same and if these special holiday editions are still available.
I'm still, relatively speaking, a bourbon novice but my son-in-law and his dad have been slowly-but-gradually 'training' me and I'm looking to reward them over the holidays. Without it costing me too awfully much, that is.
December 18th, 2020 at 10:14 PM ^
Over 200 people lined up and all was gone in a very short time. Found out about it an hour or so after it happened. So ,no I didn't get anything and it is all gone. The menu and process is on Cloud Nine Liquor Store's facebook page. Have you ever been there neighbor? I go to their sister store, Cedar Rock Liquor. This is where I heard about the release. Oh, they charged state min on everything. I was hoping to find a jug of Rock Hill Farms. It was on the list....
December 19th, 2020 at 1:52 AM ^
I've never been to Cloud Nine Liquor, but I have been by Cedar Rock a couple times.
But like I indicated above, I'm not yet what I'd call knowledgeable about bourbon. So when I saw a couple comments about bourbon holiday special releases, it caught my eye.
Anyway, like I also said, I'm looking to purchase a couple bottles as gifts. Anyone with suggestions in the upper middle shelf price range?
December 19th, 2020 at 8:56 AM ^
I started getting into bourbon recently, definitely not an expert at all, but a couple of my favorites are Blanton’s, Jefferson Ocean, Double-Oaked Woodford, and 4 Roses Single Barrel...They’re less than $100
December 19th, 2020 at 10:48 AM ^
Hey rob f: I am no expert on bourbon but trying to learn. Here are a couple suggestions that are readily available: Four Roses Single barrel or Small batch select. Old Forester 1910, 1920, 1897 BIB, Statesman. Henry McKenna 10 year. Knob Creek 9 year. Russell Reserve 10 year. None of these will break the bank. Good luck ?. If you want, I can meet you at Cedar Rock. Merry Christmas neighbor ?

Got lucky this year and got a bottle in a lottery. Cracked it that evening and gonna sip it Christmas Day. Enjoy! Excellent pour and can’t wait to go back to it!

I'm jealous
December 18th, 2020 at 11:16 PM ^
I see you are drinking water tonight, hope all is good ??.
I will have an extra pour for you ?.
Cheers!!
December 18th, 2020 at 11:41 PM ^
Thanks, the wife forbade it. I know when she gives me direct orders, instead of expecting me to read between the lines, that I'd better listen.
December 19th, 2020 at 12:02 AM ^
Smart man, you are!!
The list for the bourbon release was impressive, you probably have many in your collection. Take care ?.
December 18th, 2020 at 6:30 PM ^
Yes, I'll drunk to that!
Vacation started today. No more school for the rest of the year! After school I drove all over town delivering homemade cookies and fudge to my homeroom students since I haven't seen them in person in five weeks. I'm glad I live in a small town, so 'all over town' doesn't involve a lot of traffic.
I'm drunking Red's Rye IPA from Founders for starters. Part of their Brewed for MI series.
December 18th, 2020 at 6:44 PM ^
What an awesome and fun thing to do! Thanks for making the most of it for your students through all this.
Imma raise another glass and have a drunk to your good works!
December 18th, 2020 at 7:04 PM ^
Awesome! Also. That’s the best red rye beer I have ever had and I miss it. Going to the brewery in GR, hitting Orbit Room or the Intersection for a concert after .... I miss Michigan
December 18th, 2020 at 8:23 PM ^
I like your style Rende. I wish you taught my kids because when you brought their fudge I’d send you packing with a bottle of oozo.
December 18th, 2020 at 6:33 PM ^
Spotted Cow.
December 18th, 2020 at 7:04 PM ^
Although it wasn't my favorite of their beers, you would not believe how much I miss New Glarus. Especially since I can't drink real beer any more.
I am going to have some red, red wine myself.
December 18th, 2020 at 8:53 PM ^
I'm curious: Why can you not have "real beer" yet you can have wine?
Also, I'm drinking Tropical Drip Trip from Arvon Brewing. It's really nice but not mind blowing like much of their other stuff.

Celiac disease. They insist on making beer out of barley, wheat and occasionally rye, all of which contain gluten.
There just aren't a lot of what I would consider decent gluten-free beers out there. Green's is decent but I can't get it locally (I'm in Toronto); the same with Omission. I can get Daura Damm (imported from Spain), which is decent but boring, and Glutenberg makes a decent IPA and a decent but boring blonde ale.
So I don't drink a lot of beer any more.
(And drinking a regular beer anyway is just not worth it. Trust me.)
December 18th, 2020 at 9:23 PM ^
Step up to whiskey. You get your wheat, barley and rye, all gluten free.
December 18th, 2020 at 9:41 PM ^
I've been pretty cautious about whiskey; sometimes they add the grain mash back into the distillate. Which would be a problem.
I'm actually pretty happy with red wine.
Now moonshine is a different story. My wife's family is in Kentucky and I used to work with a guy who immigrated to Canada from Serbia, and they all made moonshine...
December 18th, 2020 at 9:50 PM ^
I get pretty happy on red wine too.
December 18th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
The tannins in red wine can give me headaches if I drink too much of it. I also have to avoid gluten. If you venture into whiskey, stick to straight bourbon and single malt scotches to avoid grain blends, but for the most part the distillation process generally gets the gluten out. Sorry to hear about the beer issue though. I love it too but had to leave that world behind.

New Glarus. Deep cut, nice.
December 18th, 2020 at 8:11 PM ^
+6 or +12. I'd take either.
Spotted Cow is one of my favorites. Good choice, not happy I was not able to get up to Wisconsin because of the Rona this year. Also miss the Bluebobber Ale.

Moon Man also one of my favorite N.G. brews

Some 3 Floyds through dinner before moving to a hefty mug of moonshine egg nog while watching Christmas Vacation.

I desperately want a set of Clark's moose mugs. They make me think of being in the student section chanting "Bullwinkle". I'd totally use them at tailgates.
December 18th, 2020 at 6:44 PM ^
This Kangaroo that you speak of sounds delicious and I would like to try one.
I’m about to pop open an Alchemist Focal Banger and cooking up a couple pizzas.
December 18th, 2020 at 6:52 PM ^
2 1/4 oz vodka (your choice, I like Ketel One; Smirnoff is my substitute)
3/4 oz. dry vermouth (I use Dolin)
2 dashes of orange bitters
stir in glass with ice, strain into your glass of choice
lemon twist
(swap the vodka with gin for a classic martini)
