Friday BBQ/Beverage + Guess the Score Thread
Mates,
Surprised nobody posted this, but hey, it is 3 short days until kick-off to the most important game in 26 yrs. We are playing Washington in Houston for all the marbles! 4 to 4.5 pt favorites, our defense vs. their offense is the big match-up. Looked good vs. an incredibly talented 'bama team, though our special teams had what we all think is a one-off of mistakes.
Defense showed up, and that goal line stand to end the game was epic. I mean, how many of us were hootin' and hollerin' and jumping up and down when Milroe got tackled? 100%
Anyway, three questions tonight:
1. What is on your BBQ/plate and what is in your cup?
2. Guess the score to the National Championship Football Game vs. Washington
3. Where and with whom will you be watching the game?
Hope you have a great evening. It's a little bit like Christmas for grown-ups, getting amped for the game. Santa Claus is coming to town.
Go Blue, beat the Huskies!

I have an Iron Maiden T-Shirt that I wear to bed (The number of the beast). I have worn it on planes, in hotels and over friends’ houses. I’ve never gotten so much positive feedback for something I’ve worn. I loved Iron Maiden as a kid in the 80’s, and had that exact t-shirt as a kid, but didn’t realize how much it meant to other people as well.

Dry toast (not feeling well)
Water (same reason)
56–14 good guys. The narrative seems to be that the Michigan defense has seen nothing like the OSU 2021+2022... erm... Washington... offense. The reality that will transpire is that Washington has seen nothing like the Michigan defense. On the other side of the ball, all of the stuff works in the first half, and we go into half 35–7. Three boa constricting drives in the second half allow only three more Washington possessions, two of which are stops.
With my family. Working in a corner during commercials, but watching, screaming, shouting, jumping, etc., during play. And probably with my MGoBlog family a bit, commenting on the game thread whenever I come back to "work." I just couldn't bring myself to shell out what it would cost to go, especially since I'd be waiting on actual tickets until Monday afternoon, and it just felt too risky.
January 5th, 2024 at 8:12 PM ^
sorry you are feeling pookie, JH.
i could see a way that the final score could be 35-7, good guys, but not a 56-14. i hope i am wrong.
January 6th, 2024 at 7:54 AM ^
If Harbaugh is controlling the game to that degree, we'll score closer to 35 because there just won't be that many possessions.

1. Miller Lite as always.
2. 34-24 Michigan
3. Local dive bar with my buddies. None of whom root for Michigan, but probably will Monday (as much as their gambling habits allow). Also watched OSU game there. They were closed new year's day.
January 5th, 2024 at 8:11 PM ^
1. Trying to see if we can get the broiler on the gas oven hot enough to do a proper "wood-fired" pizza. So far, eeehh. Drinking Sassetti Brunello di Montalcino 2015. Love me some Sangiovese.
2. I'm going with 42-27, because I think the "Georgia" plays the guys have supposedly been working on all season will work as well as the "Ohio State" plays did in 2021.
3. Just me and Mrs. Gate 3 and the dog who loves nothing more than to snuggle with her.
January 5th, 2024 at 8:19 PM ^
1) Made some Parmesan garlic chicken tenders and dreading cleaning up the disaster I made in the kitchen. Worth it? Yes. Drinking some Zombie Dust
2) 34-23 Ann Arbor
3) Went to the Rose Bowl this past weekend and was one of the best experiences of my life. But I am going to stay home for Monday and watch w some fellow Cincinnati UM diehards
One more…
Go Blue!

by any chance do you have a relative that shares your last name and that would be about 63-64, went to michigan, and used to cook the greatest paiea right next to the stadium during tailgate?
January 5th, 2024 at 8:54 PM ^
1822 - I think you might be onto something if the last name I am assuming is correct. How do you know?
January 5th, 2024 at 9:04 PM ^
i have known your dad (?) since 1980, assuming its the right person. i think you and i met on the steps of the house about 10 yrs ago, +/-. just a guess.

This is so cool if true, cheers to you both and your families
January 6th, 2024 at 8:36 PM ^

Wild. In this case I will stop by next time and pay me respects. Thats crazy
January 6th, 2024 at 9:02 PM ^
Did he used to raise yaks? If the answer to that rather unique question is ‘yes’, then I definitely know your dad. If not, then just a fun coincidence.
tough for me to make Michigan games right now as another one of my sons is playing CFB. But when I do make the games I get to that tailgate every time.

Lamb chops, roasted potatoes and asparagus for dinner tonight.

Plans haven’t solidified yet but should be getting together with some buddies either at his house or a sports bar to watch the game. Go Blue!

Looks like the wife is making shepard's pie
my youngest child (10th grade daughter) made the varsity basketball team as and has a big game tonight.... I'll have a glass of wine after
Monday is another basketball game right during the game. I have decided that I must watch her game because Dad is my most important title. So the phone will be off and I'll have to watch the Championship on replay. (But I'm hoping this winter storm that's blowing into Cascades helps a brother out and the basketball game get's postponed.)
My very specific Prediction:
Close game early.
Michigan pulls away a bit with the run game in the middle quarters and we go up two or more scores.
Penix brings them back in the 4th to within 1 score but we hold them off, either with a dominant 4 minute drive on offense or another epic defensive stop.
Michigan 38 to 31
(Corum is MVP with 200 yards total offense)
January 5th, 2024 at 8:29 PM ^
as the father of many, all of whom are or were high school athletes and some are college athletes, i would not hesitate one bit to skip that one, single, game. or in the alternative, show up late and/or eave early, since you are 3 hours behind us. that's just me.
January 5th, 2024 at 8:28 PM ^
Had a leftover homemade cheeseburger, sub bun, add hatch chiles. Was tasty. Capping it with an ice cold Miller Lite.
I'll say 35-31 good guys. Washington is legit. We know that. They'll score, even against our stout defense. But will they score enough? The boys in blue will have some things to say about that.
Will be watching from my couch. LFG!

1. Tomato soup and bread, both homemade. Just water in the glass: we are getting a fair amount of snow tomorrow and someone decided he doesn’t need to use the snowblower.
2. M 33 W 17.
3. At home with my spouse, trading texts with family and friends. Good luck everybody!
January 5th, 2024 at 8:39 PM ^
funny re: snowblower. hopefully hubby gets a great workout tomorrow, nothing more, nothing less. farm tractors make it a lot more manageable for us when real snow comes.
January 5th, 2024 at 8:31 PM ^
1. Pork belly burnt ends from Mgoblog. I highly suggest you try it.
2. This game smells like TCU part deux. I just hope the fan / public overconfidence doesn't infect the team and coaches like it clearly did in the Fiesta bowl. I think they will try some cute stuff that will backfire possibly putting us in a hole early. Minter will have some good adjustments, Corum will have his best game since 2022. I think this, much like the Rose Bowl will be a toss up that will hinge on a few huge plays. 38-35 Michigan.
3. From my couch with a cardiologist on speed dial.

1. No plate yet, but I've got a vodka & Squirt going on in my glass.
2. I'll say U-M wins 38-31.
3. I'm watching the game at home until I have to go to my tutoring appointments, so I won't be able to see the entire game. I'm in Husky land, too, so that will be fun.

Forking through chicken cobb salad, wondering how much good shit everyone has on their menu. Impressive MGoChefs. Gotta step up my game.

Deboned Chicken and Sautéed lamb, fatoush, rice and warm pita bread from local Middle Eastern spot. Right now a nice cup of hot tea w/honey. Recovering from RSV/Upper Respiratory infection. Will be watching w/ my son and son in law!
45-21 Good guys… My boy was 2 in 97 so to experience this with him now has been incredible. We try to do an away game every year as a father son trip. Michigan football has been something that has kept us close as sons tend to drift away. Pretty happy. I’ve got my flag up since first game. Always take it down after first loss or season is done. When they win Monday, I have to keep it up til next year .
