Well, regardless the kid just put himself in a position to get direct feedback from The League while maintaining college eligibility. Seems like a pretty good move from a kid who knows he needs to work on some things if he ever wants to make the next step.

Also, the NBA doesn't care as much about college/pre-NBA production as it does about measurables and potential. If production was what mattered, two-time MVP and NBA champion Giannis Antetokounmpo would never have made an NBA roster let alone be drafted.

Fair enough but it also seems to be a move from a kid that doesn't stay ANYWHERE for more than 2 yrs.

That said it seems like you're saying THESE are the stats the NBA is interested in:

HT/WT    6' 1", 185 lbs

The avg NBA point guard (according to Bleacher Report) is:  "the typical NBA point guard’s ideal height is 6’3” +/- 1” (give or take an inch) and is around 190 lbs."

Sooooo he needs AZ St to grow him 2 more inches next year & he'll be ready?

More like his speed and athleticism. If he can develop a consistent shot, he could be a decent player off the bench who burns defenses in transition. Yeah, obviously he has a lot to improve on, but speed and athleticism are two primary prerequisites for the NBA, which is precisely why Hunter Dickinson probably doesn't have an NBA future. (And for the record, I'm not sure Frankie does either, but that doesn't mean I'm going to take the low-hanging fruit and bash a guy taking a smart step toward getting in NBA radars without losing eligibility just because he left a program like 50% of college players do now.)

Is anyone actually going to be waste their time giving him feedback though?  He's not going to be invited to the combine.  I can't imagine scouts showing up to a workout.  He should have plenty of people in his circle giving him feedback already.  It's not rocket science to know what he needs to work on.

Addition by subtraction at some point. Whatever skill he shows, something is missing in his long-term attitude. The only reason he had a decent season for ASU was he wanted to show up UM for having a transfer challenge him for a starting job. Same reason JOK had a career game vs. Purdue then never repeated the performance.

Just hoping Kobe comes back and we get some more scorers in the portal.

Probably just getting his free NBA draft analysis so he gets feedback on what the NBA wants him to improve on. If you hope to go to the NBA eventually, why not get graded for feedback?

This makes sense, in that negative feedback can be a great educational tool. Reminds me of a story I read about Stephen Sondheim. When he was in prep school, Sondheim wrote a school musical that was well-received, so he showed it to renowned composer Oscar Hammerstein, who was a family friend. When he asked for Hammerstein's opinion, the composer replied that it was the worst thing he'd ever seen, "But if you want to know why it's terrible, I'll tell you." They spent the rest of the day going over the musical, and Sondheim later said, "In that afternoon I learned more about songwriting and the musical theater than most people learn in a lifetime."

So this might be Frankie's Hammerstein moment. If he's smart enough to pay attention, it could be very good for him.

Overly ambitious I think lol but I don't see the big deal. Go through the NBA combine process to get feedback and then come back another year. Seems like there's no downside in doing that

Why can't he just identify and recruit guys who are super awesome college basketball players with no interest in going pro or transferring? We need guys who will stay around for 4 years, but be really good in year 1 -- but not so good that they go pro. Is it really that freaking hard?

Because the point of college it to prepare you for your career.  Not to peak in college.   People seem to be so selfish with this stuff.  JH has put at least 5 probably 6 of his recruits in the NBA since he has arrived. Contrast that with Beilein who I count had 13 players who he recruited on an NBA roster at some point. Michigan is recruiting better talent and NBA caliber players.  The big issue that I see is that JH is excellent at finding NBA talent in high schoolers, but not so much at finding talented players that need 3-4 years to develop. It’s going to take him time.
