Football Scoop: Louisville OC favorite for WMU HC job (over Hart and JayBaugh)

WMU is foolish for not taking either Jay or Hart. Both will be top quality HC when they get their opportunities

Maybe, but I can see why a university would want someone with offense/defense coordinator experience as their next hire. If that is the case we should be more concerned about our assistants wanting to take those jobs. However, while I don't want to lose any of our coaches I am in the camp that it is a good thing to have your coaches get promoted. Also, the last couple of years have proven that Harbaugh knows what he is doing with hiring a staff.

I wouldn't mind "losing" Jaybaugh for an HC gig to get some experience, but I really don't want Hart to go anywhere for as long as possible.

Watching our running backs improvement since he got here has been fun.

Sometimes I get little flashbacks of Hart running when I watch the guys on the current roster. Can't put my finger on what exactly, but sometimes there's a little juke or a shimmy or something like that my mind jumps back to 2006 for a second

I get that same vibe when watching. I think it's when they fall forward every time they get tackled when the eye test says they are too small to fall forward. That quality about Hart is so valuable in a RB.

Agreed.... Its a foregone conclusion that Weis or Moore will be getting lots of attention from other programs, so Hart is next in line to at least be CO-OC...

This. Jay's units have consistently been a strength for the team, so that's great. On the other hand, since Hart showed up:
2021: Hassan Haskins 3rd team all american
2022: Blake Corum: injury robbed him of solid Heisman chances, still expect an all-american pick
2023: At this point I'd be shocked if Donovan Edwards isn't earning national awards
Likely three running backs in three years turning into world beaters and letting the entire offense flow through them. It's impossible to say how much of that is directly because of Coach Hart, but I really don't want to lose him and find out.

And you know what he did for Indiana's running game.
December 6th, 2022 at 11:27 AM ^
And all three were recruited by JayBaugh... Maybe lets not be so quick to bid him adieu?
December 6th, 2022 at 11:39 AM ^
I wouldn’t say anyone wants to “bid him adieu” but rather just… for now.

I'm definitely happy with Jaybaugh staying and with what he's accomplished, I'm saying he's the sort of coach that if he goes somewhere to get some HC experience and explodes, he'll be (in theory) available when Michigan needs him back.
December 6th, 2022 at 12:18 PM ^
All three and Zach Charbonnet..who could be an all American as well.

Louisville makes sense because WOTS is that Brohm is going to leave purdue for Louisville, his alma mater if I recall.
December 6th, 2022 at 10:58 AM ^
aaaaaaaaand... back in the trash for purdue.

“We welcome our new boilermaker coach Tim Lester!”
December 6th, 2022 at 11:17 AM ^
He already turned down the Louisville job a couple of years ago to stay at Purdue. I wouldn't be surprised if he did go to Louisville, and would respect him for wanting to coach at his alma mater, but he's shown some commitment to Purdue which is nice.
December 6th, 2022 at 11:17 AM ^
Brohm already turned them down once, and he's coming off his most successful season at Purdue. And the money difference between a Big Ten and ACC school has only gotten bigger. I'm not sure this makes sense on its face.
There could be politics involved - either Brohm isn't fully happy at Purdue, or something changed at Louisville to make it more attractive to him, or both. It could be a situation similar to why Harbaugh came to Michigan in 2014 and not 2011. The insiders would know, I don't.

The Atheletic actually has some excellent coverage on this. In a nutshell, he felt it was too soon/dishonorable to leave Purdue at that time in his tenure, but has, more recently, intimated that he'd be more open to a Louisville return in the future.
December 6th, 2022 at 10:56 AM ^
That's good, I guess. But now who's going to Louisville?
December 6th, 2022 at 11:21 AM ^
Bobby Petrino?
Third time’s a charm.
December 6th, 2022 at 11:03 AM ^
My only guess here is that what Louisville does on Offense aligns better with what WMU has been doing on Offense than what presumably UM guys would bring to WMU. That said, there is a lot more to being a HC than Offensive philosophy so as I write this I think I'm having a stupid take...
December 6th, 2022 at 11:44 AM ^
I think they are probably wanting someone who at least has coordinator experience
December 6th, 2022 at 11:38 AM ^
Sherrone Moore had previously been contacted as well and turned them down.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:10 PM ^
Good. Moore shouldn't leave for anything less than a Power 5 job.
December 6th, 2022 at 2:28 PM ^
Good for Moore. Co-OC of 2 CFP teams, coached the Moore Award winning OL and is an ace recruiter. Dude deserves a lower level P5 job at the least.
