Lines before matchups are even announced. Can’t they just wait for the teams to be officially announced? Are they afraid people won’t be able to get their bets in?
December 4th, 2022 at 9:39 AM ^
I see your point but it's not like it's a secret. Fans are just trying to buy into the suspense to make the show more interesting. The seeding has been locked since halftime of our game...and probably before we even kicked.
I don't gamble but maybe there is value in being "FIRST!" and everyone making a bet with you before competitors post the matchups?
December 4th, 2022 at 7:05 AM ^
Also listing the kickoff times as Georgia/OSU 4pm and Michigan/TCU as the 8pm kickoff
December 4th, 2022 at 7:49 AM ^
From fanduel?
December 4th, 2022 at 8:37 AM ^
I’d be really surprised if we aren’t the early game. TCU is not a national draw by any means.
December 4th, 2022 at 9:06 AM ^
Assuming those matchups that is a good point.
Maybe the location influences the kickoff times which possibly are set before any seeding? (Not that you couldn’t change it)
December 4th, 2022 at 9:12 AM ^
The east coast doesn't like the 8 PM games which gets awfully close to midnight when people want to focus on New Years. So in some ways the 4 PM game is a better time.
Also based on timezones, the Peach probably prefers 4 PM and the Fiesta 8 PM.
December 4th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
Except there’s no way Georgia passes on the de facto home playoff game and the Fiesta would never allow a 1pm (2pm? Can’t remember Arizona’s contrarian time rules) kickoff for a premiere game.
We are all but locked into the 8pm ET game.
December 4th, 2022 at 11:26 AM ^
The Fiesta Bowl had an 11 AM local kick (1 PM ET) just last year. Ditto for 2015 and 2018:
December 4th, 2022 at 9:11 AM ^
Does this mean they expect Michigan/TCU to drawn the most views in the prime time slot, over Georgia/OSU
December 4th, 2022 at 7:10 AM ^
Georgias gonna win by much more. OSU arrogance is astonishing in that they seem to forget they got the billy hell beat out of themselves in their own house. I actually hope somehow that Sabans whining makes the committee have OSU set this one out. Yes Bama has 2 losses, but OSU has one giant one.
December 4th, 2022 at 7:32 AM ^
Saban will generally get the benefit of the doubt over Ryan Day. But, putting OSU over Bama earlier this week told the story.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:02 AM ^
OSU lost to the #2 team in the country while Bama lost twice…once to a team that got completely owned by S Carolina, and another team with 4 losses. They have absolutely zero argument for playoff.
Saban is wrong. The metric to use is not simply asking oddsmakers who would be favored or who has the most NFL talent, it’s the teams that had the best season on the field that deserve the playoff.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:13 AM ^
Alabama has also not beaten a team this year with less than 4 losses.
They have zero case and shouldn't be ranked as high as they are.
December 4th, 2022 at 10:08 AM ^
If Saban is arguing hypothetical point spreads he is arguing against TCU, not OSU. Alabama is behind OSU in SP+, PiRatings, FEI, etc. They would likely not be favored in that matchup
December 4th, 2022 at 7:18 AM ^
i'd switch those two lines - UGA 9.5 over ohio; M 6.5 over TCU
December 4th, 2022 at 7:27 AM ^
Wut? What happens if the teams are not selected?
December 4th, 2022 at 7:58 AM ^
You lose the bet and your land..definitely risky but I'm in the mood to gamble, I can feel it!!
December 4th, 2022 at 8:11 AM ^
Thank you!
December 4th, 2022 at 9:10 AM ^
They likely void it just like they do for other games that don’t happen due to weather, etc.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:00 AM ^
Lsu put up plenty of points on uga and uga had the ball bounce their way a lot last night. I expect a game between uga and osu would be an instant classic., not to mention... One of them will lose! Fantastic.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:12 AM ^
I rarely gamble and never bet parlays (sucker bet). I was feeling good about this though.
Needed that last TD though.
Damn straight. Thanks coach! Donating it to one of my favorite charities.
December 4th, 2022 at 9:11 AM ^
Who says “I want to bet $153 on this game”.
Not $150, not some weird decimal so you end up winning $500. $153…
December 4th, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
That was everything in my account :-)
December 4th, 2022 at 8:36 AM ^
Fanduel jumped in the DeLorean and grabbed a Grays Sports Almanac…get money like Biff!!😂
December 4th, 2022 at 8:38 AM ^
Just please slot OSU against Georgia. And then do your fucking job, Georgia.
I’m sorry, but I really have no desire to play OSU again, especially in the semis. That would essentially be the committee giving a big fat middle finger to Michigan and telling them “what you did on November 26th does not matter at all.”
And it’s just really hard to beat the same team twice in a year. If Michigan lost to OSU in the semis, or god forbid in the title game…..we’d never hear the end of it. Like…..ever.
December 4th, 2022 at 8:57 AM ^
I agree. OSU is a lot like Purdue only that they have a better stable of WRs and they score touchdowns instead of FGs. OSU talking heads believe they left a lot to be desired in terms of play calling but if they want a track meet because they’re not tough enough to grind out a win, UGA will give that to them and more.
December 4th, 2022 at 9:02 AM ^
I’m taking Georgia all day with that line.
December 4th, 2022 at 10:05 AM ^
That line is actually about a point or two higher than I predicted based on power ratings. Maybe because the Peach isn't quite a "neutral field"
Georgia looks incredible sometimes and pretty meh other times. They are prone to stalling on offense and defense isn't as elite as last year
December 4th, 2022 at 9:05 AM ^
Seems like a pretty heft line for us. Expect the bookies know more than I do
December 4th, 2022 at 9:41 AM ^
Almost a double digit favorite in a CFB semifinal without your best player. What a time to be alive.
December 4th, 2022 at 10:13 AM ^
When are the official bowl announcements?
December 4th, 2022 at 10:47 AM ^
So this means Michigan is essentially the #1 seed. As it should be really.
