Ex-MSU coach Kathie Klages charged with lying in Larry Nassar probe

Maybe justice will finally find Ms. Klages after all.

So, since it's not in the OP, here's the nuggets:

  • Warrant has been made for her arrest.
  • Charged with two counts of lying to peace officers, one felony and one misdemeanor. In Michigan it is a felony to lie to investigators about major crimes.
  • Between the two she's looking at up to 6 years in prison.
  • The lies she told to investigators include being unaware of any misconduct by Nasser prior to 2016. She was found later to have gymnasts report abuse going back 20 years.
  • Her attorney has been informed that she has to the end of the week to turn herself in.

GR posted the link. It's in top headlines on ESPN.

2-4 years in prison is not harsh enough and it doesn't feel like justice.

If she would have believed the two teen girls in 1997 and actually done something, hundreds of victims could have been spared over the next 20 years.

She's getting off easy.

Fully agree that the relatively light potential sentence does not truly fit the scope of all the damage that was done.  But, it is somewhat refreshing to see that this horrible human being will finally have to face the victims and get, at least, some of what she truly deserves.  I was growing concerned that everyone had washed their hands of the atrocities at MSU and Klages was going to walk away unscathed.

Pretty sure there are another trainer or two who still have some splainin' to do.

One of the reasons -- the main reason -- I have been so curious about the additional MSU scandal Umbig11 has hinted at is because I really want to see Mork et. al. get what is coming to them for running athletic programs with such piss poor ethics. This may not be one of the big fish but at least it's a step in the right direction, and I hope there is more to come.

As best I can remember, Umbig11 reported in late July that someone in the media had some more info regarding a previously reported MSU scandal, which allegedly included some proof that Mork tried to cover something up. Initially he thought it might come out relatively soon but yesterday in his "ND info" post he was asked about it and had no update. He speculated that the OSU mess may have pushed it into the background.

Umbig11 (I hate to keep speaking for him ... sorry) seemed to initially think it was pretty big. But of course more digging by whichever outlet has the material could have changed that. Or they may be finding more and so it's taking longer. Who knows?

That's one of the biggest problems in all of this. The reporters covering OSU and MSU for local outlets are such fanboys that no one wants to dig any deeper. That's why ESPN had to release the Mork/Izzo stuff last winter, and why a fired ESPN reported had to break the OSU stuff. The local media report the initial story (because they have to), then ask no further questions because they want shit to go away just as much as the teams and coaches they cover.

And Michigan got dragged through the ringer for months because some players practiced too much.

Normally, I'm not one to carry the pitchforks and torches, but this news is long overdue. You can't jail someone for being a coward 20 years ago, and she was when these young women were never in more need of help. But you can get time for obstructing justice. No plea deals here, I hope.

She is one of the primary enablers of Nassar. I don’t think ESPN / other outlets have mentioned her anywhere near as much as they should up until now.

She should be locked up.
