ESPN likes Beilein

Submitted by Ziff72 on

I like Beilien and think we are on the right track, I was just laughing my ass off imagining RR watching the game in his living room and sayin "Where the fuck have you been all year Mike Patrick?"   "Where are my fucking graphs for my defense you idiots!"

It seemed ESPN was prepared for Mich to get blown out and explain it with graphs showing how young Michigan was but how the future is so bright.  They were gushing on Beilien and the young guys before we even got the lead.

RR gets Millen yelling "Shankapotomous"

Did anyone else notice the completely different vibe of the telecasts?   I think I saw the Michigan is the youngest team in the Big Ten graph 3 times.  I've never seen the graph for RR's defense in 12 games.

But man I love the Beezer. This dude is gonna win us a lot of games, both our hoops team and our football team have bright bright futures.

Old guard ACC teams are tough.  Especially at home.  Clemson is a solid NIT team and may even make an NCAA bid run.

That being said, if Iowa and Minnesota don't choke, the Big 10 is 6-0 with the entire challenge wrapped up.  So, how good is the big ten and what are our chances in it?

Hell of a game from Morris. ESPN didn't even mention him in the recap despite his 13 pts, and team leading: 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals. We need to see more games like this from Darius if we want to keep winning games.

Morris was averaging 14 pts and 7 assists before tonight anyway...so we HAVE been seeing that from him this season.

What I liked was Smotz being aggressive in the paint tonight.  It was nice to see him on track.  If him or Hardaway can be a factor each game, then they'll be in good shape.  I think Morgan and Morris will be consistent.  It's really up to Hardaway or Smotz to fill up the scoring if they want to win.

PS-Sorry to call out players, but Vogrich doesn't belong on a Div 1 team.  I was hoping he'd improve over the summer, but he's just as big a liability as last year.  No threat on the offensive side, and a total liability on the other end.  i'd rather Colton Christian take his minutes.

Then don't do it. Remember voGRIT is just a sophomore, give him some time. All I ask of the M faithful is to not call out teenagers, before their senior years. When he's a senior you can call him out.

Everyone loves to hate our football squad so you won't get a lot of excuses made for us in the media.  But our basketball team doesn't generate that hate.  Even Jay Bilas stopped kneeling in front of Amaker long enough to cut us a break.

Exactly.  It's so frustrating to watch the football broadcasters go on and on about how bad our defense is and how our coach is in hot water while failing to mention over the course of a 3 hour telecast that we're PLAYING FRESHMAN ALL OVER THE FREAKIN FIELD!

If you're implying that Beilein has been guilty of some roster mismanagement, I agree.  A lot of guys left the program in his first 12 months, and we're paying the price for it now.  I never quite understood the Kelvin Grady situation, either.  We can only hope he can get his own attrition problem under control.

i am really like are chances of being a  team in the big ten race next season. If we can find a DC that RR lets do his thing personal wise and scheme wise, we will be a legit team in the Big Ten!

To the OP...I noticed that too.  However, I think that some of it is self-inflicted by RR too.  Keep in mind RR came to UofM with drama about his buy out.  He had that real estate fiasco.  He's had practice gate.  Right or wrong, that's a lot of mud slinging.

Beilein on the other hand has a squeaky clean image and even sits on the NCAA ethics committee.

These are some of the reasons why I believe the media fawns over Beilein and harasses RichRod.

And Beilein has changed his system.  We played the 1-3-1 only one trip that I noticed in the Clemson game.  He has literally abandoned it and that is a continuation from the B10 season last year.  They also are working the ball inside more and rebounding more than in his first year.

After Beilein's first year in the B10 he said that there were some things that he needed to change in philosophy due to the style of play in the B10 and he's done that.

...Big Ten teams are smart enough to attack the 1-3-1 well but Big East teams (with coaches such as Boeheim, Thompson, Pitino, Wright, Crean, etc.) weren't?

I don't think Beilein forgoing the 1-3-1 is due to the Big Ten.  I think it's due to youth and inexperience.  The way he plays it is a) different than most and b) complicated.  Next year and beyond I think you'll see it more and more.  We now have the length he likes, that length just needs time to learn the schemes.

of hearing that this wont work in the big ten, that wont work. Ya the spread wont work in the big ten but....lets see RR's spread finished in the top 10 nationally in total offense!

And it isn't even a clever play on words.  His posts are usually a lot more intelligent than his avatar.  Maybe he will change it to something reflecting his intellect.  There must be a more clever way berate OSU than what is currently in his avatar.

The comparison to OSU and MSU fans is accurate, too.  They make Michigan more important than their own school.  I detest Brutus and Sparty as much as anyone, but I certainly wouldn't put either school in my avatar if I had one, because I would feel that I was defining Michigan in terms of another program instead of being proud of one that can stand on its own.  If I really wanted to berate OSU in an avatar, though, it would have to start with three numbers:

57-44-6.

And it's unfair.

I don't know why.  Could it be that Beilein comes off as a high school principal while RichRod comes off as someone who spent a lot of time in the principal's office?

I just don't know.  You would think that after years of stone-faced Lloyd that the media would gush over RichRod's natural awe-shucks charm.

Maybe they are more interested in someone who is easy to target than someone who is easy to get along with.

Media members, like workers at most jobs, are largely lazy and just want a meme that will carry a story along. Boom, a guy gets a target on his back and they just run with it.

Man, I even bet that ESPN would try to make a story out of a QB laughing on the sideline if his team was losing.
