That doesn't seem to indicate anything. If it moved to 5.5 or 9.5, it would probably mean Corum was playing vs. not playing but a half a point means nothing.

Worry more about Morris than anyone else.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:52 AM ^
Why do people get all worked up over a betting line to begin with. I remember people freaking out about the Penn St line. That turned out OK. I didn't realize ESPN moved betting lines, I thought that was a sports books job.
November 25th, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
ESPN doesn't have its own book; it uses odds from third parties. They just display what their partners are reporting.
November 25th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
Yes, 7.5 to 8 is relatively insignificant. 7 to 7.5 would be a bigger move
November 25th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
Wrong. A half point jump after a week of no movement could be " sharp confirmation" on top of what's an already inflated line. Imo it seemed to have Corums "potential" to miss the game already baked in at 7.5. It's not jumping 4 pts based on news, even news like that, of which there has been nothing certain reported.

Ohio State fans got drunk last night at Thanksgiving Dinner and a lot of money came in on Ohio State.

Half a point means nothing. 2+ would indicate meaningful news is out, i.e. someone is playing/not playing.
For example, the line of the Alabama/MSU hoops game moved 2-2.5 points in favor of Bama when it started circulating that Malik Hall was out and Jaden Akins was doubtful.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:05 AM ^
It actually means not enough money was coming out of an old shoe!
November 25th, 2022 at 9:07 AM ^
They are tying to get more Michigan money. It means there is too much Ohio money on the table.
November 25th, 2022 at 10:11 AM ^
Yeah, but yesterday 90-95% of the spread bets were on UM & 60% of the money line was on UM. They don’t need more UM money, they need more OSU money. If the sport book ESPN is quoting moved the line (ESPN doesn’t set lines) then that could be that someone knows something and it isn’t likely to be favorable to UM.
November 25th, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
Doesn’t make sense. They’re not trying to get the spread right, they’re trying to get the betting at 50/50. So they’re not going to change a line based on secret news that no one knows, secret news that is so secret it won’t affect betting. They don’t care if Corum has his leg amputated and we lose 49-3, as long as the betting is even. That is how they minimize risk. They’re only going to change a line in response to active betting or if they know that big news is going to break before the game that will affect betting, which it clearly isn’t now that it’s Friday and all that’s left is team walk-through.
November 25th, 2022 at 11:18 AM ^
My question is what is motivating the action that moved the line. If Blake corum is 100% and verifies is on Twitter I would imagine a great deal money would come in in favor of Michigan this moving the line. That was the nature of my question
November 25th, 2022 at 11:30 AM ^
There are sharps in Vegas who will get info long before we in the public will. All it takes is for a couple of them to place a sizable bet to move the line even if the money isn’t equal.
my point is that if the line moved from 7.5 to 9 with all of the public money on UM, then it is likely someone knows something & it isn’t likely to be good for UM.
November 25th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
You have not convinced me that this is “likely” the reason for the betting line to change %20. Once info like that is out it’s out. It’s not 1973 where some “sharp” gangster has private gambling info that somehow the rest of the world isn’t receiving. Your theorem seems more derived from a Scorsese movie than reality.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:10 AM ^
means that we'll be 1/2 point closer to the spread when we win straight up by a dozen.
Hope the boys are ready to go from the first minute.. to the last.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:33 AM ^
It's now OSU -9 at MGM.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:34 AM ^
That line will probably move a lot more at 20 minutes before kickoff
November 25th, 2022 at 9:36 AM ^
All week sharps have been saying watch the line for a hint on Michigan’s key players injury status.
As others have stated a half point doesn’t represent a tidal surge of money in one direction or the other but to completely dismiss it as nothing would be wrong too.
I would feel a LOT better if I saw the line moving in the other direction that’s for sure because Vegas will know the status of the players availability long before we in the general public do.
Edit: Just saw the line moved another point to -9. This is not good news.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:59 AM ^
Two factors:
(1) Weather forecast has solidified as a fine late fall day in Columbus tomorrow.
(2) Suspicions re: Corum being out have intensified due to lack of confirmation he will play.
November 25th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
Thank you. This is the information I was looking for.
November 25th, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
I’m sure there’s a Vegas scout wedged in a tree somewhere with binoculars watching the team bus reporting back to Sam Rothstein
November 25th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
I also assume there may have been some information about Edwards as well. A 1/2 point swing doesn't strike me as "Corum looks gimpy"-level movement but if a guy or two who they thought might be available isn't that could move the needle.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:59 AM ^
It didn’t “move” to 9. Books have been anywhere from 7.5 to 9.5 all week. Several books are still at 7.5, and a couple are at 9. The vast majority are at 8 as of now.
November 25th, 2022 at 10:25 AM ^
Can you link to the book who had it -9.5 all week because I never saw it bigger than -8 anywhere before this morning.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:04 PM ^
I know for a fact that fanduel jumped to 9.5 Saturday night/Sunday morning and Draftkings actually got all the way to 10 on Sunday. Both got steamed and were back to 7.5 by the end of day on Sunday.
November 25th, 2022 at 10:30 AM ^
It specifically did move from -7.5 to -9 at MGM- edit aaand just like that, it is back to -7.5 -115
November 25th, 2022 at 10:15 AM ^
Friday morning, wouldn’t read much into this, 7.5-9.5 is no man’s land. Unless Michigan is leaving for Cbus this morning, and there was no Corum sighting or something (which I highly doubt).
Personally think you’re going to see this bounce all over between now and pre-game when people actually see who’s dressed and on the field. There are significant injuries on both sides. That’s when the real line moves will take place, hope to see this crash through 7 just like last year pre-game. That would be a good sign from the big shooters
As of now per PFF, spread bets 51% of tickets on OSU and 71% of cash on Michigan. ML bets are 56% tickets on OSU and 98% of cash.
No idea how often they update but seems to be changing frequently. The spread bets tell you the bigger money is on UM. Typically like that when I wager on a game. ML also tells you OSU is going to be in a boat load of parlays tomorrow…. Vegas always looooves one of those TD range favorites to get popped and kill everyone’s parlays/teasers where they rake in loads of money.
November 25th, 2022 at 11:13 AM ^
Lines only move if news is going to affect betting. They don’t move because a player is injured and it’s a big secret from the public. They only move if that news is anticipated to affect betting.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:37 AM ^
Jesse needs to turn loose his best pass rush plays that maintain lane integrity. This troubles me most along with an injury muted running game given lineman and running back health. Cards that are dealt I am afraid.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:48 AM ^
Public money at this point. Probably seeing 60% or more tickets on OSU -7.5 which forced the move.
November 25th, 2022 at 9:51 AM ^
Bet MGM has it 7.5

Very interesting, when I looked a couple of hours ago it was -9, as of a minute ago it is indeed back to -7.5

Have the line move to 14.5, or 19. Being the underdog is a good thing.

did you really start a thread because the line moved half a point?
November 25th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
You felt compelled to respond so ut couldn’t have been that painful for you.
is it so bad someone in this community wanted to ask about its meaning and try to learn something?
November 25th, 2022 at 1:29 PM ^
Fair enough. Lines move often without any real news, even a few points throughout the week. A line will move a half point all the time.
This is prime in-season posting time, so I didn't feel that a half point line move was worth a post the day before our biggest game of the year, and judging by your down votes, I'm not alone.
November 25th, 2022 at 10:22 AM ^
The South Carolina Tennessee game was like 22 points. Just sayin…
