Eron Harris not on campus; UM has moved on

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Per Chris Balas at TheWolverine. Very odd turn of events.

Michigan is no longer pursuing WVU hoops transfer Eron Harris and he is not on campus. He will decide Monday.

You would think he would at least visit before deciding. I suppose Michigan may have decided to move on first but that also seems odd unless there are other issues we don't know about like grades etc.

Deyonta Davis- top 25 recruit

Eron Harris- 17 ppg scorer

Bryn Forbes- 15 ppg scorer

Kyle Ahrens- top 150, JB was close to offering

Nairn Jr- 4 star

Bess/Ellis- their MAAR/Dawkins

In good shape to get 2 of Ellenson, Swanigan, Brunson, Gil-Caesar, Coleman, Davis, Turner, Manuel, Jarvis Johnson

In great shape with 2016 guys like Winston, Bridges, Murray

Add in upperclassmen like Valentine, Costello and Kaminsky and they will compete for B1G titles and deep runs over the next few years

Nairen jr is gonna get eating alive in college.. Izzo hasnt developed his players worth a shit in recent yrs ( I personally don't think he ever has). He had a starting line up of five stars and all he could do was make excuses..

Guys - let's not get ahead of ourselves about U-M vs. MSU.  Last year, MSU was injured (and yes, I enjoyed it too), but we saw what happened when their whole team was playing well - they whooped our ass in the B1G tournament final.  I do believe that we have a better team, but MSU and Izzo are top-rate.

I do not see a fit either with Harris going to MSU.  I felt he was a perfect match for the Beilein scheme.

I agree that the game meant much, much more to MSU than it did to Michigan, but we didn't have our seed locked up.  Had we won, we'd have been in Virginia's spot, with MSU likely in Duke's (and Duke in ours).  I'd have liked our chances in that region better, both at the time and in retrospect.

Izzo is a hell of a coach. Harris is a very nice player (who could still choose Purdue). But this was not make-or-break for Michigan. There are a lot of fish in the sea, especially in the 2016 class.

Oh well, can't get them all. Michigan will be fine. As for MSU - did anyone actually expect them to fall off the map? They're gonna continue to get talent. Our best will just have to beat their best.

Don't forget about all of the 15 and 16 talent with M on their short list.

Izzo is still a great coach but he clearly isn't the same. He himself said it was the hardest year coaching he has ever had and I honestly don't feel he was talking about injuries. In that UConn game you could clearly see in fighting going on with the players and each other and Izzo. I've said it before on here but he is going to get less and less of the top talent with the way he screams at kids. And yes I realize the kids who play for him love him but that's not what I'm saying here.

I think that Izzo style doesn't work well with this generation. Kids leave after a year, they are treated like stars before they show up on campus - you think they want to play for the Brian Kelly of basketball? He is a great coach, and he teaches the right things to be honest. But he doesn't have the creativity that Beilein has - he doesn't out scheme the other guy. In relation to Eron Harris, I wonder if the pathway to playing time is far less cluttered at MSU? Because honestly he would have become a star in Michigans system.

Eron Harris has some great numbers and I think he probably would have fit incredibly well into Beilein's system actually - a very good plug-and-play player for that offense that would have been very productive. At this point, of course, the trendy pick is MSU, so we shall see on Monday - one tweet also added that Harris dropped Michigan from consideration, so it would be intriguing to here what in fact happened. Best of luck to him all the same, of course.

I can't find any other source saying Harris isn't on campus. I'm surprised no one else has said anything.

That sucks esp since it is likely its a MSU win.  Wish he had visiting UM first.  Would have been an immediate big time scorer to plug in for Caris in 12 months.

I don't get why people are acting like MSU is going to fall off the map and be irrelevant. They'll compete for titles every year because Izzo is a great coach who's also a dick. I do believe that for the forseeable future, Michigan will be right there with them and probably beating them more often then the lose to them.

it's been for many years. Imo it's not even close. That's with zero early departures. Their recruiting going forward is okay, but below their typical level. To me, that's an indication they'll compete for Big Ten titles some years and be a middle of the pack team others.
