I was disappointed, but not upset to here that Durkin took the Maryland job. I understand that people want to advance in their careers. I am, however, very upset that he is now trying to poach from the Michigan coaching staff.

I've been a reader of this forum for around two years, but I finally created a login to post this:

FUCK YOU DJ DURKIN!

* I hope Harbaugh jams Brady Hoke's spike straight up your ass and turns it sidewise.

If he waited until this week, rather than put up what strongly appears to be a half assed effort against OSU, and wasn't instantly trying to poach our fairly new recruiting coordinator... you might have a point.

Taking a better job is fine - I've certainly done it. However,

  1. Interviewing during rival week
  2. shitting the bed in your rival game, and
  3. Immediately trying to poach from your former employer

is beyond the pale. Try it out for yourself. Give notice, slack off, and then try to recruit your coworkers. See how that gets you treated.

Sorry, but not going to wish Durkin any good luck at all.  Taking the interview the week of the OSU game was an absolute chump move.  Hope we score 80 on Maryland next year...

I'm feeling kind of salty, but who knows what went on behind the scenes. Maybe Harbaugh knew Durkin wanted a head coaching position as soon as possible when he hired him. Same for Partridge, especially if Bush was mentioned for his position weeks ago. I'm not going to worry about this much since I'm sure Harbaugh will find a great replacement.

For a guy like Durkin, this is the move to make. He wants the challenge. He wants to compete against the best. He wants to coach against Jim, Urban, and Mark every year. And if he is successful, he can then be a candidate after Jim retires.

Getting a B1G head coaching job at 37 is quite an accomplishment.  Everyone here would've done the same thing.

That being said, I hope we blow their doors off next year.

Durkin was not much of a strategist all season.   His team played well early on, based on improved techniques and more motivation to play harder.  A lot of that came from Harbaugh and the other position coaches like GMatt and the DB coaches who are excellent.

The butthurt in this thread is STRONG. Durkin isn't the only one and you'd be an idiot to delay the interview when you may not get the opportunity again.

Tom Herman was fine last year. Plenty of coaches were fine in other years. You guys won't admit that OSU simply outplayed Michigan and even if Durkin was on his A game last Saturday, Michigan would've still lost by 4 TDs

Long time lurker, first time poster -- so please be gentle.

And maybe no one reads this b/c you've all moved on to the infinite new DCC threads, but don't think anyone has mentioned Durkin has/had a 3 year contract with Michigan.

*Fingers crossed this link will work*

Per Section 4.4(b), he can terminate employment without good reason by delivering written notice to the university but forfeits deferred comp and team performance payments. Assume MD will more than make up those amounts, but was curious about the terms of his agreement and thought others might be too.

Would have been nice to keep him another year for sake of continuity and recruiting, but can't blame a guy for taking the next step professionally when opportunity presents itself.  Hope we beat the Terps by 40 when they come to the Big House Nov. 5, 2016.  Like the rest of you, I have faith in Harbaugh's track record in picking DCs, so I'm excited to see who he lands us for next season...  hopefully it's somone who can come up with a plan to stop OSU's ground game.
