The drive by Todd Collins in '94

Submitted by mgofootball4 on
I can remember thinking that UM was done after ND's TD with just over 2 minutes to go. Watch from about the 7:15 - hell of a drive to win in South Bend...

It was actually less than one minute (46 seconds) when they got the ball back. It's strange that a game that always seemed to come down to a last second kick hasn't been decided that way for so long now. Hopefully the trend continues and we win 38-0 again.

That's obviously Remy's greatest moment right there. I knew Remy when he was with the GR Rampage and he had stacks of 8x11s of that kick that he would sign and give to everyone.

The last throw of the drive was a thing of beauty. Collins is getting dragged down from behind and still manages to fire off a perfect pass to Seth Smith. And then of course Remy blasts that 42-yarder right down the middle. What a game.

The first half of this game includes the same play we saw at the end of last week's Iowa / Northern Iowa game. Michigan attempted a field goal which was blocked, recovered the ball behind the line of scrimmage, and advanced it for a first down. It's around 2:00 in the video. I remember watching that as a 13-year-old kid, and I've never forgotten that rule.

I remember watching that game and being sick about how much they gushed over Ron Powlus. After Collins put that last drive together I was thinking "And that is what a QB is supposed to do." Thanks for posting this. Good memory. Also a reminder that I am getting old as hell.

I love Todd Collins, he was the qb when I started watching MEEEEECHIGAN football. He should have been starting for the Redskins the last 2 years, I was pulling for them hard when he started in the playoffs. Anyone know if he is still on the team or did he retire?

I knew Todd, personally, back in the day. He was one of the most humble, down-to-earth guys you'll ever meet. I recall standing in line at Ricks in the rain one night. The bouncers were more than happy to let him in through the "back door" (the elevator). But he would have none of it. He stood in line and got soaked with the rest of us.

I also remember that he had the ability to keep a conversation "balanced." He would never dodge silly/stupid questions about himself from other students, but he was always very good about changing the subject to you and your interests. Despite the fact that the details of my life were pretty lame compared to his, he always seemed genuinely interested and very easy to talk to.

had some of the best ball fakes I've ever seen. He'd fake the handoff and sit with the ball on his hip for what seemed like minutes before he'd fire a completion to a receiver. Also, loved the Moeller/Lloyd hug at the end. Great guys.
